My wiikey freezes up randomly while playing burnt games. I bought a retail version of the new wii Tales of Symphonia game, but it wants to install an update that might brick my wii. How do I disable the chip altogether? Where can I find a working version of the 1.9b update that will suitably corrupt the chip's programming? If I manually remove the chip from the wii, will all traces of it's programming and presence be removed with it?

well befor u fuck up ur wii/wiikey i would recomend downloading wiikey update 1.9s(1.9x) then download setup 1.4 (setup 1.9s 1.9x) then on the setup change the speed to 3x and it'll work.
this method workes very well but it has its disavantages becasue you think each and everytime you currupt the firmware the wiikey is gonna wear out and eventualy it will stop work for me i was very lucky that my wiikey still hade sume juice in it USE AT OWN RISK
but why not be safe and download the new firmware that allows you to play ssbb

u can play SSBB NORMALLY with a wiikey chip! A real retail version of ANY game will work just fine on your wii if it reads, so yes, online will work just fine! Just make sure your online connection is good, but SSBB has been known for inconsistancy, so be aware of that!

i don't get your request just then. Not all modchips work the same! All I know is if you look on Wikipedia for wii modchips they will tell you the details of EVERY chip made for the wii! You will find that ONLY Wiikey has the ability to allow Brawl to work. But it may not be neccessarily accurate with the d2ckey! But with UPGRADED 1.9s Wiikey, definitely works!

But of course, it will not work any differently with Brawl online, since Brawl online is a bit tedious in terms of functionality, so yeah, works fine with me! I even had Mario Strikers Charged, an NTSC copy where online worked perfectly! SAME WITH MARIO KART WII! So do go for it!

You should take this video down. You dont need to to this to play smash bros anymore. Simply download the 1.9s Wiikey firmware. (s stands for smash) :)
mcflurriez, help please. i followed your instructions and got my brawl to work fine. now i am trying to install 1.9s because it is compatible with brawl. i cannot run 1.9s firmware bcuz when i run 1.9b recovery it doesnt do anything! i tried multiple times but still no good. did i brick my modchip? i downloaded a new 1.9 recovery and still nothing. none of my burned games work anymore.

HEY it worked, and in the instructions for the recovery disk it said this disk was made if there were any interuptions in the flashing of the wiikey, so that proves that it was made for exactly this purpose!!! helll yea works perfectly and thank you.!!!!
hey thanks man before i had in on a cd-r unknowingly but somehow it had worked in the past ... i guess the wii reads cd-r's too, but if that's the case it should play music!!! Anyhow, I burned it on a dvd-r disc and have it in right now and it sounds like it's reflashing, still waiting though ... Thanks a lot man.

Seriously guys...I didn't even bother to try this, I just sold my legit copy (since I didn't want to wait for update/ brick my wii). Just sell it and buy/ download the fake DL game. Your all just wasting your time in my opinion.

Well unfortunately we have to update in order to play the game. However, it seems it's only the 3.2 that makes all this trouble for us. If anyone can find a workaround to the update please inform the masses.
I did the 1.9b corrupting trick, but instead pulled the plug at 80% or 81% (credits to sospendejo). Plugged the power back in and tried again. It froze the first time, so restarted by holding the power button for 4 secs. For me it didn't read, said something about ejecting disc. Pushed the power for 4 sec. until the color became yellow, then I placed the disc back in. I tested by letting the whole opening play, it didn't freeze so I played
If your wii is modded why would you wanna spend 60$ then pull the plug. Why not just download DL Version of SSBB and play it for free? SSBB Came out on Sunday, by Monday night there already was a torrent file. On Tuesday the Scrubbed (4.7GB) torrent was out. So why bother?

GREAT NEWS!! 7 days of trial and error and i finally got it after i cleaned my lens. the first time i cleaned it but it still froze so i cleaned it thoroughly and it worked! i have 3.2u. i first did recovery1.9b then i did 1.9upgrade firmware. then 1.9g firmware and unplugged at 70% and it works!
For some reason, when i put in the 1.9b recovery disc..it won't read at all. I tried some other GSOS discs like 1.3config that worked before, but it doesn't work now. Any suggestions?

Also, I'd let to mention through zenintrude's video that it is apparent the only thing stopping SSBB retail on a wiikey is the 3.2u update that is required before running the game. I am on the search for a downgrade + circumvent for this upgrade on the disc, and if anyone finds any information please post me on the details.
never mind, all i did is update the 1.9g first and then i update the wiikey 1.9g to 1.9b to corrupt it. to others, to play your back games again, just use the restore disk and use wiikey 1.9g to update the wiikey again, so you can corrupted to play the retail us ssbb.
note: don't multigameiso (an multigame creator for multiply ngc) to add these files.
sori about this but i have a 3.1u wii and a 1.9g Mikey's. i've done exactly as u have shown in the video. i was successful in turning off the wiikey, but i have the same loading screen freeze problem. i don't suspect it's the lens, because after turning off the wiikey, i can't play any of my retail games, same loading screen freeze. any help would be appreciated.

I've got an European Wii and the latest update is 3.2E (not 3.2U). I have troubble finding the right version for my newly modded Wii. Can I use the same Wiikey update that r in the video description? Or do I have to find an update for European consoles? I know this is a little off topic, but it it seems that there r some guys who knows what their talking about;)
I don't think the problem is the lens since my other real games don't load up either, which they have before I disabled the Wiikey. Any tips on recovering? I tried multiple times; sometimes waiting for over 5 minutes.
The only way to take away the freeze is to actually clean your lens, as just a bit of dirt has been proven to the reason behind the frozen loading screen.
everyone - when using the recovery disc, go ahead and leave it in there for longer than 3 minutes. the first time i did it, i turned my wii on, inserted the recovery disc, pressed reset and waited 3 minutes. after power cycling my wii, i noticed that it didnt work. the second time i did it, i left the recovery disc in there for a while - it had to have been at least 6 minutes. try this and see if it works for u.
I disabled the Wiikey and my Wii can detect SSBM and start it. I didn't press anything after the game started from the home menu similar to how you did it. However, it doesn't get past "Now loading". Any ideas how to fix this?
None of my other real games work at the moment, and I've tried numerous times to recover it, but to no avail. Recovering is the least of my concerns as of now.
Side-note: I was wondering if I removed the modchip, would my normal games work at this point?

i get same problem, if your wii is from different region, then maybe dl the NTSC-j/u/pal 1.9. If thats not the case then u probably have a clone. Because i think mine is a fake too. Sigh...
this is risking! this method is not recommended to do! 2 things: add a switch to wiikey or buy another modchip! wiikey is not a good chip anymore! i want wasabia!

Oh thanks i got to 3.2U. I have two more questions though. First, If u already have the 1.9b updated, how do u corrupt it? Do u just still put in the 1.9b update disk and pull cord at 70%? Second, after you are done with SSBB and want to play like some other game, is putting the recovery disk enough? Or do u have to put in the update disk 1.9b or 1.9g disk again?
I did these steps with the 1.9b disc and it did absolutely nothing when I unplugged at 70 % (I tried about 8 times all around that number) and my wiikey would not corrupt. So I tried doing these steps on 1.9g update disk. And now im wondering if there is a recovery disk.
There is no recovery disc for the 1.9g, only the 1.9b. But as long as your wiikey is corrupted any recovery disc will work. The links are posted under this video's description.

Actually, they're wrong and so are you. It can take up to 20 times before the recovery disc works, it varies for everyone. Be patient

After you've done the step (MAKE SURE ITS 2.4x burn) you may not be able to read any burnt wii games.
After i tried putting in a game, i took it out because it didn't read.
Instead, i put in the new Wiikey update "1.9s", and it read perfectly fine.
After you've finished your 1.9s, it will read both backup games and retail SSBB.
Hope it works for you guys :)

I successfully recovered my wiikey!!
This is how i did it, I followed MonkeyTrash's steps:
1) Power on the Wii
2) Eject any other game in the Wii
3) Insert the Recovery disk burned at 2.4X with ImgBurn.
4) POWER OFF THE WII with the power button NOT RESET
5) Power on the Wii
6) Wait at the Wii menu for 5+ minutes
7) Click and Hold the Power button until the light turns red.
8) Power on the wii and take out the recovery disk and play any game.

Thanks a lot! I got Brawl to work and the recovery disk works fine. If any of you have problems with it the directions i used were:
1) Power on the Wii

HEY it worked, and in the instructions for the recovery disk it said this disk was made if there were any interuptions in the flashing of the wiikey, so that proves that it was made for exactly this purpose!!! helll yea works perfectly and thank you.!!!!

hey thanks man before i had in on a cd-r unknowingly but somehow it had worked in the past ... i guess the wii reads cd-r's too, but if that's the case it should play music!!! Anyhow, I burned it on a dvd-r disc and have it in right now and it sounds like it's reflashing, still waiting though ... Thanks a lot man.

1. Burn it at 2.4x
2. turn on your wii, get to the wii menu
3. eject any discs in drive.
4. insert recovery disc
5. reset wii
6. turn on the wii, and let your wii sit at the wii menu for AT LEAST 6 minutes.
7. hold your wii's power button, till the LED turns yellow, then turn it back on.
8. Eject the recovery disc, and try any burned disc now, should work.

Yeah it does play online. Make sure when you buy it from the store ask them if its dual layered.

Seriously guys...I didn't even bother to try this, I just sold my legit copy (since I didn't want to wait for update/ brick my wii). Just sell it and buy/ download the fake DL game. Your all just wasting your time in my opinion.

My wii was semi-bricked - update 3.1u(from SSBB jap DVD 5 backup) - wiikey firm. 1.9g.
After unpluging at 70% and all that, i put SSBB on the wii and it asked to update (that was strange since it was already updated). I did the update.
Now my wii isnt semi-bricked anymore, my firmware is still 3.1u and SSBB woooorks!!!
(oh and no errors about crashing while loading)

I was wondering why US Super Mario Galaxy works for me.
I have an US Wii with 3.2U, and I don't even know what wiikey firmware version I have.
Also, I would like to ask, if my wiikey version is below 1.9g, I have to upgrade to 1.9g version first? THEN do the 1.9B trick?
Finally, do you remember how long the wiikey team took to release an update firmwire when Galaxy came out? I was hoping there would be a new firmware coming out soon so I don't need to do all these technical stuff!

Well unfortunately we have to update in order to play the game. However, it seems it's only the 3.2 that makes all this trouble for us. If anyone can find a workaround to the update please inform the masses.

Hey guys I finally got past the freezing screen.
I did the 1.9b corrupting trick, but instead pulled the plug at 80% or 81% (credits to sospendejo). Plugged the power back in and tried again. It froze the first time, so restarted by holding the power button for 4 secs. For me it didn't read, said something about ejecting disc. Pushed the power for 4 sec. until the color became yellow, then I placed the disc back in. I tested by letting the whole opening play, it didn't freeze so I played

If your wii is modded why would you wanna spend 60$ then pull the plug. Why not just download DL Version of SSBB and play it for free? SSBB Came out on Sunday, by Monday night there already was a torrent file. On Tuesday the Scrubbed (4.7GB) torrent was out. So why bother?

you dumbfucks dont know how to work the recovery disk.
1. Burn it at 2.4x and MAKE SURE THE DISC DOESNT GET SCRATCHED LIKE MINE DID.
2. turn on your wii, get to the wii menu
3. eject any discs in drive.
4. insert recovery disc
5. reset wii
6. turn on the wii, and let your wii sit at the wii menu for AT LEAST 6 minutes.
7. hold your wii's reset button, till the LED turns red, then turn it back on.
8. Eject the recovery disc, and try any burned disc now, should work.

It took me a while to figure this out.
What I had to do was to download all the updates and burn them to DVD-Rs (see the links in his vid description).
Update the Wiikey to 1.9b, then do the same with 1.9g. Then once again update to 1.9b and pull the plug at 70%.
It works, just keep trying.
Good job for figuring this out for the rest of us!

you fail to mention to everyone that corrupting your firmware also has the risk of destroying the wiikey forever. some ppl have already reported that the 1.9b recovery doesn't work, so for anyone who doesn't realize it, if your that desperate to paly your retail brawl, go ahead and try to corrupt the firmware, you have been warned

the recovery disk for the 1.9b is not reading..i tried doing the update with 1.9b about 20x and it wouldnt work until i tried it with the 1.9g...now i want to play my burnt games again but the 1.9b recovery disk acting stupid!!! i need a solution asap!!

GREAT NEWS!! 7 days of trial and error and i finally got it after i cleaned my lens. the first time i cleaned it but it still froze so i cleaned it thoroughly and it worked! i have 3.2u. i first did recovery1.9b then i did 1.9upgrade firmware. then 1.9g firmware and unplugged at 70% and it works!

Sorry for the late messages and emails that I have taken a long time to reply, I have been very busy researching.
My recovery video will be coming out soon. Also, I'd let to mention through zenintrude's video that it is apparent the only thing stopping SSBB retail on a wiikey is the 3.2u update that is required before running the game. I am on the search for a downgrade + circumvent for this upgrade on the disc, and if anyone finds any information please post me on the details.

never mind, all i did is update the 1.9g first and then i update the wiikey 1.9g to 1.9b to corrupt it. to others, to play your back games again, just use the restore disk and use wiikey 1.9g to update the wiikey again, so you can corrupted to play the retail us ssbb.
note: don't multigameiso (an multigame creator for multiply ngc) to add these files.

sori about this but i have a 3.1u wii and a 1.9g Mikey's. i've done exactly as u have shown in the video. i was successful in turning off the wiikey, but i have the same loading screen freeze problem. i don't suspect it's the lens, because after turning off the wiikey, i can't play any of my retail games, same loading screen freeze. any help would be appreciated.
i suspect that it might be because my wii isn't a 3.2u yet, but i dont have any wifi to update. any alternative?

I've got an European Wii and the latest update is 3.2E (not 3.2U). I have troubble finding the right version for my newly modded Wii. Can I use the same Wiikey update that r in the video description? Or do I have to find an update for European consoles? I know this is a little off topic, but it it seems that there r some guys who knows what their talking about;)

I don't think the problem is the lens since my other real games don't load up either, which they have before I disabled the Wiikey. Any tips on recovering? I tried multiple times; sometimes waiting for over 5 minutes.

you need to turn off your wiikey to play ssbb.. for some reason ssbb detected your wiikey, on any version 1.9g, 1.9b, 1.9

The only way to take away the freeze is to actually clean your lens, as just a bit of dirt has been proven to the reason behind the frozen loading screen.

everyone - when using the recovery disc, go ahead and leave it in there for longer than 3 minutes. the first time i did it, i turned my wii on, inserted the recovery disc, pressed reset and waited 3 minutes. after power cycling my wii, i noticed that it didnt work. the second time i did it, i left the recovery disc in there for a while - it had to have been at least 6 minutes. try this and see if it works for u.

I disabled the Wiikey and my Wii can detect SSBM and start it. I didn't press anything after the game started from the home menu similar to how you did it. However, it doesn't get past "Now loading". Any ideas how to fix this?
None of my other real games work at the moment, and I've tried numerous times to recover it, but to no avail. Recovering is the least of my concerns as of now.
Side-note: I was wondering if I removed the modchip, would my normal games work at this point?

i get same problem, if your wii is from different region, then maybe dl the NTSC-j/u/pal 1.9. If thats not the case then u probably have a clone. Because i think mine is a fake too. Sigh...

Oh thanks i got to 3.2U. I have two more questions though. First, If u already have the 1.9b updated, how do u corrupt it? Do u just still put in the 1.9b update disk and pull cord at 70%? Second, after you are done with SSBB and want to play like some other game, is putting the recovery disk enough? Or do u have to put in the update disk 1.9b or 1.9g disk again?

I did these steps with the 1.9b disc and it did absolutely nothing when I unplugged at 70 % (I tried about 8 times all around that number) and my wiikey would not corrupt. So I tried doing these steps on 1.9g update disk. And now im wondering if there is a recovery disk.

There is no recovery disc for the 1.9g, only the 1.9b. But as long as your wiikey is corrupted any recovery disc will work. The links are posted under this video's description.
