So wonderful. I had a guard cat when I was a baby, too. He was born around the same time as me and lived to age 22. I've never been catless since.

Adorable!!! The child's so gentle with the cat. That might be part of the reason for the bond. Animals have really good intuition bout people. My cat runs from most toddlers but that's because those kids are super rambunctious.
