The Cherokee Nation recently kicked out black members of the tribe. The sneaky negroes were imposing themselves on the American Indian tribe. Now the USA government is trying to force the Cherokee Nation to accept negroes back into the tribe-- although it is none of the govt's goddamn business. Btw, when dealing with fractions re: degrees of NDN blood, it's a random distribution. If your mother is half and your father is white, you're not necessarily 1/4 NDN. Genes don't divide themselves mathmatically that way. Take a DNA test if you want to know your precise percentage of NDN blood. If that were required for tribal membership, there would be some very disappointed people indeed. But, as many have said, being NDN is sometimes more about what is in your spirit.

The Cherokee owned slaves, yes. But, "what they did to [your] ancestors"? The Cherokee were humane. I believe slavery is wrong, but in MY ancestor's defense, they were not cruel like other societies' slave owners were.

And blacks are not barred citizenship. There are many black Cherokees. Black Cherokees and descendants of freedmen are not always the same thing.

OUr family Documents from the Smithsonian Institute states that my Great Grandmother was a part of the Choctaw Nation and she had a roll number, however she died before the final dawes roll and when her childern( who were mixed with black not her). I sat they are as much a part of the tribe than anyone. Indians took blacks as slaves when they were forced by the whites. However, the Indians brought them into the tribe, intermarried, and treated them as equals. I don't see why after hundreds of years, they should be seperate. Well indigenous tribes are different from other ethinic minorities in the united states. Especially with their relationship with the federal government. The 5 tribes that where slave owners was imposed by the government as a way to assimulate tribes in to western culture, especially in the area where they where at thier was a lot of white slave owners, it was imposed on many tribes to become slave owners themselves during the time as assimulation.

That has always been the case. Cherokee citizenship has always been determined by having an ancestor on the Dawes, not by blood quantum.
