Someone has probably already commented that the inclusion of a flat baseplate magazine in addition to the one with the pinky extension will make for a smaller size and easier concealability
Damn u should really do a keltec p-11 review. There the suppososed "lightest 9mm on earth". With such a small gun and having the 9mm cartridge on top of how small it is make it reviewable.
call smith and wesson and tell them u dont like the flat magazine bottom---they will send u an extended 1 for free. ive done it and know many others have 2
The gun doesn't come standard with a laser that's why it's $900 it's a 400 to 500 gun. All gun manufacterers do the one pinky exntension and one w/o and even if they didn't it is nothing to complain about just mention. and it's 12+1 but I see you put it in the description but said 11+1 in the review
I just subscribed to your channel, but I had a few problems with this review. Firstly, you never mentioned that you were reviewing the 9c, you kept saying the 9mm. Secondly, it doesn't come standard with the crimson trace laser, and lastly, it's not a $900 gun, it's $500 gun. Also, you never mentioned the difference in accuracy with the sub-compact 9mm and the standard 9mm, so I am going to stay subscribed, because I think I'll learn a lot, but I hope the reviews are more comprehensive. :)
@tiffanycreuz Actually you can get them standard with CT Laser. As to the "not a 900 dollar gun" it's 809 with the CT Laser. Go to Smith-Wesson and click the M&P>9mm and it's there.
It doesn't come standard with a crimson trace laser. You bought it with it. And it cost around 500 OTD... 1/8th of an inch 90thousanth my ass. all of the ones I've handled have maybe 10thousanths movement. You got ripped off for $900.
Thank you Tim, I really enjoy watching your video, it is informative and honest. I got a S&W 40c. It shoot well. I don't have any malfunction so fa (400 rounds). Thanks
Only the DA only safe style has the caution. The other two are just black. It wasn't just something stupid at the S&W shop. It actually serves a purpose. But yes... to us firearm nuts, it seems a little crazy. And I don't think I'd be pulling the trigger with one in the chamber and the magazine removed anyways. But I hope that clears it up.
I didn't read all of the comments to this video, so it may have already been brought up, but I know why they have the "caution-capable of firing with magazine removed" on the firearm. It has to do with the 3 types of safety options on this gun. There is the DA only safety (the one with the caution). With this type, not pulling the trigger is your safety. There is the safety on the slide, like most safety pistols. & there is the magazine safety. This firearm can't fire with the magazine removed.
The magazine safe style looks & is operated exactly like the DA only safe firearm when the magazine is in the gun, but when the magazine is removed the gun will not fire. They put the caution on there to let the gun holder know that the one that he/she is holding will fire with the magazine out, incase they are used to the magazine safe option. It is the only way to tell the difference between these two guns unles you are holding the manual or have taken it apart. I'm just letting y'all know.
Good job with the video and review. I agree, back in the day, the "caution-capable of firing with magazine removed" label would have just been absurd. It still is absurd and there is no excuse for it. Nothin' but scalawags put that on there.
I own this gun and I like it, in general, but it's cumbersome to break down and clean. IMO
I shot this one with polymer 9mm did not really like the jumpy recoil on it. I think the Bersa eagle .380 ACP is much better. Thats just my two cents...
I see the little correction about the 11+1 vs 12+1 in the video, but the downloadable PDF still says 11+1.
Also, you called it a $900 gun, when I've seen them locally for $500. Maybe the Crimson Trace grip OPTION bumped it up another $400. It does not come on every model so it is not a negative.
The small "pinkyless" mag is made for a slightly smaller profile for concealed carrying. Smith & Wesson will also hook you up with those pinky extensions FOR FREE if you call them about the issue.
As for the two different mags... Some prefer the extra real-estate for the pinky (like me) & others could care less (like hickok45). Being that this is a compact model, I would imagine many who are looking at this gun, are planning to carry it concealed, & would prefer it to be as small & concealable as possible, subscribing to the whole "less is more" philosophy. Also, as a consumer, I prefer choices, so I think it's good they provide one of each. Tks for the review. I want this gun. :-)
have magazine safeties, you shouldn't point it at anything you don't want to shoot, so having a warning like that engraved on the gun is like writing "guns can kill people if you shoot them in the face" on the side.
I'm with Tim on this one, the laser grip is the same size as the medium backstrap but is much thicker because of the bumps that say CTC on them. Also it is a weiner move, .3-.4" of a difference on the flat floor plate is not going to make that much of a noticeable difference in concealability unless you like wearing nut hugger jeans and dog sweaters. Also, unless you're a complete idiot, you know most guns can fire with or without the magazine in. Even if smith and wesson firearms do sometimes
Dear God, PLEASE take time to learn something before reviewing guns. The "huge" laser grip is the same size as the medium panel. The pinky extension is for practice comfort; the flat base is for concealed carry. The warning on the side is because traditionally S&W autoloaders have a magazine disconnect and won't fire with the magazine removed, thus, no warning on the M&P models without the disconnect would be an issue for some people. The machine that holds the pistol is called a Ransom Rest
The reason companies include one flat baseplate mag with one pinky extension baseplate mag is that most people buy compact pistols to carry concealed. That way you can carry the gun with the flat baseplate mag so that it conceals better, and carry the pinky extension mag as your reload. It's not a "wiener move"; you're just a wiener for not knowing about it and commenting anyway, *especially* as president of ConcealedCarry. Buy a pinky extension baseplate for $5 if it bothers you. Chump.
But let me ask, what do u think on why u still get extra back straps knowing u have a laser, cause if u change it out don't u lose the laser? If so S&W is wrong for that,I have small hands so on my M&p I us the middle grip.
this guys an idiot! lazer is not standard! just purchased this gun and i love everything about it! and ur ''sponsors probably seen ur vid and stopped givin u shit cause ur a fuck tard
@baynut925 Have some class dude. Check out the uploader comments. He admits that he made a mistake and owned up to it. Instead of injecting worthless and offensive expletives, how about making a nice response video instead?
The only reason that it's a "900 dollar gun' is because that's the MSRP List Price, not the street price, and it has the Laser which adds about 175 to the cost . Without the Laser you can buy that gun for about 450-500.
Great Video! I just picked up the M&P 9mm c about 3 weeks ago as my first conceal carry pistol. The price of this pistol was very reasonable, I have had no issues on the range and have fired roughly 100rds of different types of ammo, no FTF or FTE, Cleaning is easy. As far a Conceal Carry I would recommend a inside the waistband holster. Also keep in mind this pistol has no thumb safety only a Magazine safety feature. Over all I would definatly recommend this weapon shoots great.
@TheTacticalTim I am look at getting the Smith & Wesson M&P9c Compact I already have a Streamlight TLR-1 and was wonder if you knew if it would fit on the Smith & Wesson M&P9c Compact because the rail is obviously shorter and does not have the three slots perpendicular to the rails where the key in the light fit to stop front or back movement like a full size Smith & Wesson M&P9
After a month of research i finally made the decision to buy the M&P9c. I love this gun. i have put about 500 rounds of various brands of ammo including the cheapest i could find and i haven't had one jam or failure of any kind. i am amazed at the accuracy of this compact pistol. The last time i had it out i was hitting the BOTTOM of a pop can from about 10 yards. The reason i chose this gun over Glock, Springfield, and Kahr wa because in liked the feel of the trigger and grip much better
I'm about to buy a 9 mm and was thinking about this very gun without the laser. You made a comment that this was a good one but not your first choice. What would be your first choice for a carry 9? My fiance has an H&K which is really nice but pricey. I like the idea of the MP especially because I can get a new one for $479.
Cool video. Its great that you like guns and it shows. Thanks for the pdf. Its really nice to have and reference. Oh, on future vids could you talk about the trigger reset on the pistols? I didn't like the XD because of the full release until the trigger reset unlike the Glocks.
I love the M&P i bought one and the only complaint is the price of those mags...they are "EXPENSIVE!" and not all have CT laser grips but i also reeeeally love the "scalloped" serrations as i think they are called. And also S&W gave those sights the absolute longest sight radius they could. I hate glock but i love the 1911 series and also the Springfield XD and also KEL-TEC and sig (which are way too expensive) so im not myopic in my choice...it's just my fav.
@Garuda1337 Yea, I just bought one at Gander Mtn. (and they get more for their guns) It cost me 570.00 out the door, I didn't think that was all that bad
I have one of these little beauties and think it is a TOTALLY SWEET piece. Thanks for the review. This gun comes in a lot of different configurations. The Crimson Trace is one option...... mag safety or no mag safety, a model with manual safety as an option as well. can't understand the mag without the extension on it? Let me give you a clue. This gun will go right into your pocket with a pocket holster. I like the feel without the extension. Drop the lazer and I paid $478.
had an occasion to meet with a Japanese executive one time . He was a vice president level, while I was a mere asst plant manager level. The conference tabloe was 30 ft long. he sat on one side on one end and I was to sit on the other side ,on the far end ,as i was not equal to his status and not worthy to sit directly across from him. dont talk top me about racism and equality.
I carry the M&P 40c, basically same gun as the 9c. I wanted to comment on the flat vs. extended magazine. I've personally found that the extended magazine pokes/rubs my side while concealed and is sometimes very uncomfortable. I leave the flat mag in while carrying and have the extended mag as my backup.
Overall I've been very happy with the gun. It is very easy to conceal and shoots very well.
I called S&W today about my extra mag not having a pinky extension and they're sending me a replacement free of charge. I understand they're going to stop selling the flat plates on the compacts.
I carry a M&P 9c, the CT grips are a upgrade for sure that cost around $200 more then the gun it's self. I bought mine new from a local gun shop and it cost $540 without the CT grips. In my opinion this is a great cost for a sub compact gun. Other then that great video, please do a little more research before making these videos. Please keep up the work!
for someone who does this for a living, you don't know very much e.g. a lot of guns can't fire without the mag, and many people assume this is true for all guns. warning is a damn good idea given accidental shootings are most often caused by idiots who don't realize gun can fire without a mag. as for the mag without pinky extension - it may "feel" good but it has no impact on accuracy. accordingly they include the smaller one for better concealing. dumbass. also, 12+1. basic shit!
@SupieCoopie NO WEAPON HAS "ACCIDENTALLY" BEEN FIRED BECAUSE OF A MAGAZINE OR LACK OF A MAGAZINE. THEY HAD A NEGLIGENT DISCHARGE BECAUSE THEY BROKE THE RULES OF FIREARM SAFETY AND PLACED THEIR FINGER ON THE TRIGGER AND DEPRESSED IT WITHOUT KNOWING WHETHER THERE WAS A ROUND IN THE CHAMBER. PERIOD. dumbass.
Great video Tim! I love concealed carry magazine too! I disagree that the flat magazine is a "wiener move" LOL. I like that smith gives you a choice, unlike glock where you have to buy a after market pinky extension. If you ask, smith will send You a pinky extension free, so You can have it Your way. BTW The "capable of firing with magazine removed IS a "WEINER MOVE"

hey tim, you should position the camera so we're watching you shoot from a first person view, this lets us observe the gun in action, then zoom on target so we can see whats being lit up. that side view, like we're a spectator watching from the side lines sucks.
grip doesnt come wit tha gun. u payed an extra 300 for that grip u dont like. i payed $600 for everything u have besides that laser. n im pretty sure theyre Novak nightsights that come on tha gun. i didnt get y they were white tho either
FYI, that gun cost $900 because you bought it with an OPTIONAL Crimson Trace laser that retails for around $300 on it's own. That is not a standard piece of equipment on that pistol or any M&P for that matter. Another thing is the warning label is there because they make some M&P pistols with a disconnect, which requires the mag to be inserted to fire. This is to adhere to some state laws with those restrictions. Good review, but a little more research goes a long way.
Good review Tim, although reviewing the M&P line is hard because of all the different variations (manual safety or not, 10 or 4.5 lb trigger pull, magazine safety or not, etc.). I think it's outstanding, but the price was too high so I went witha Ruger SR9c and LOVE it. If you ever review the SR9c, you'll notice how stiff and tight it is out of the box, but don't let that get you, after about 100 rounds it smooths out considerably.
I love my 9c. The mag with no finger extension is for conceal carry and you carry the extended mag on your person. Duh dude. Glock only gives you 2 conceal mags! Fuck Glock!
It does not come with a crinson trace and i paid $590 for mine. It has an ambidextrious mag release. And its fukin accurate up to 100 yards with FMJ ammo. Dont ever load Winchester white box ammo and attempt to eject a live round. All other ammo is OK
@GreenRiverOptics piss on S&W M&P. It is mosty outsourced on its build. It WILL develop extraction problems due to a generically designed extractor not specifically designed for the 9mm, GLOCK set the standard and still IS the standard. S&W is smoke and mirrors. they are a sell out company.
The reasoning behind them writing the warning on the slide is because some models have the magazine disconnect so that the gun will NOT fire without the magazine in place... good to know if you happen to grab it off of a downed man and aren't sure... rare circumstance I know, but still
Its more like a $600 gun with a $300 laser on it. with a little practice you wont even notice the "slop" I personally shoot the m&p9 in competitions and it provides superb accuracy to most other handguns i have fired. and I know it can out shoot me anyday of the week.
Good job Tim. Good to see new blood doing gun/gear reviews. I'd like to see a bio vid to help establish your expertise, who you are and where you've been. It's an essential part of any instructional series. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the reference. Looks like you have something good going on here, so keep at it!
I think the MP line, as great as they are, is trendy and hasn't been field proven like Glock has. But at least it isn't a Croatian made pile of garbage that is the XD.
I noticed your target marks were a little high (not much, still would hit a human fine). Although I first was very accurate with M+Pc, after firing a Kahr (maybe diff grip angle?) now I shoot the M+P a little high unless I aim front sight slightly lower than I would think. Usually the shots are grouped together pretty well. It seems like a solid and reliable pistol. Thank you for your newsletter and videos, they have great info.
I have the M+P .40c. It has 10 round magazines. A nice added feature is that it will take the full size mags from the "non-c" model. Finger ext. magazine is helpful for pinky support and accuracy. Easy to clean, reliable, had trigger work done too. Changed to the smallest palm grip, now is more stable in my hand. No laser is standard, it is a $150 or so upgrade, I think. Also like the Kahr P40, it is thinner and lighter, but only 6+1 rds. vs. 10+1.
You mentioned in the video that this gun would not be your first choice for a 9mm. Since I'm considering this gun for my next purchase and I'm taking all opinions, what would be your choice for a non-carry, full sized 9mm handgun?
Are you going to rate it the way you rated the Glock 36? I really like the M&P because it fits so much better then then the glock!! I like the glock but for concealed i think the M&P offers a little more. Hope to see one soon! thanks and great vids! % stars broziff!!
Thanks for your efforts Tim. I think you would like the standard M&P 9c better than the one you used in the video with the crimson trace grips. Overall I agree with your assessment. I too wish Smith had not put the warning regarding shooting without a mag on the gun itself.
@TheJapanChannelDcom Good review Tim, I'm getting a viridian C5L for my MP 9c (compact and reliable), and also.. fuck you, u slanted eyed chank! there's a reason everyone in the world wants to be in america, we are the greatest country in the entire world! Fuckin japs
@TheJapanChannelDcom fuck you!all the japanese i`ve had all smells like fish!fuck japan,as the only cool thing they ever had is the martial arts.shove a nintendo controller up your ass!
@TheJapanChannelDcom you stupid gook!i`ve traveled to three different continentsi live in florida;but i`am from new york city;so again, fuck off you stupid gook!
@TheJapanChannelDcom I have nothing against Japan or your race, nor any others...Your accusing others of racism when YOU are being racist yourself. I do feel bad about some of my fellow Americans who act this way. Remember though--every country has its assholes....Having a right to bear arms in the U.S. is something I am greatfull for and exercise EVERY day. Unless your emotional about guns, you in fact would appreciate this right (If your in this country).
@drummermangle seriously don't try to engage the fuck. He's probably some dumb 15 year old white nerd who likes to watch anime and collects pokemon crap.
6 years of my life have been spent in Japan and my wife is Japanese. You are clearly not Japanese as they would never openly display such rudeness and ignorance. The Japanese don't "get" gun ownership because Japan is mind-numbingly safe and they are raised to be group oriented. They are polite, hard working, and clean, but they have their faults too. Frankly, after WWII they lost their taste for fighting, even in self defense. I can't really blame them.
I have the M&P 40. This is an outstanding concealed carry firearm. The "pinky extended" as you call cat at times print the pistol during carry. I normally do not use the magazine with the extended as i want the ultimate in concealability.
I have a M&P 9c. The magazines hold 12 rounds, not 11 as you states. You stated it comes "standard" with the Crimson Trace laser. The S&W website doesn't show that. Maybe you can get an upgraded one with the CT laser but its not "standard." I've been a member of USCCA for years now and love the magazine. However, if your video is going to be flawed, how do I know if the articles are flawed as well. Please use attention to detail in the future. Thanks, Bill
@wbrandenburg Holy cow... you're RIGHT the mags DO hold 12 rounds. My mistake! I have people help me outline these videos and write all the specs down about the gun... I obviously need to double-check this before we record the videos. Man... I feel like an idiot.
@TheTacticalTim Great video and nice review. I like your SOP document. However, I question whether your "concealability" rating on the SOP for this M&P should reflect a rating with the CT Backstrap and a second concealability rating using one of the standard (small, medium, large) backstraps included with this weapon. The standard backstraps could increase the concealability rating greatly.
I like the idea of your firearm reviews ... you have previously written on the importance of firearm cleaning ... for us who have some hand difficulties, i.e., arthritus, could you demonstrate and comment on ease of disassembly as this is an important factor for many of as we "age".
You made no mention of the left handed mag release and slide release which is the reason i bought this gun over the others i was looking at.

The machine that holds the pistol is called a Ransom Rest
grimel2 7 months ago
And you wonder why I don't subscribe to your magazine. Half the information you put out is bad to horrid.

Exelent review my friend thanks for the info!!
Bigntactical1 7 months ago
The "pinky extension" is not a big deal and the legal gun warning does not take away the performance of it either.
SuperRip7 7 months ago

@TheTacticalTim I am look at getting the Smith & Wesson M&P9c Compact I already have a Streamlight TLR-1 and was wonder if you knew if it would fit on the Smith & Wesson M&P9c Compact because the rail is obviously shorter and does not have the three slots perpendicular to the rails where the key in the light fit to stop front or back movement like a full size Smith & Wesson M&P9
thanks cdduda09
cdduda09 11 months ago

I like the idea of the MP especially because I can get a new one for $479.
noelled21 11 months ago
Cool video. Its great that you like guns and it shows. Thanks for the pdf. Its really nice to have and reference. Oh, on future vids could you talk about the trigger reset on the pistols? I didn't like the XD because of the full release until the trigger reset unlike the Glocks.
mintyfresh001 1 year ago
I love the M&P i bought one and the only complaint is the price of those mags...they are "EXPENSIVE!" and not all have CT laser grips but i also reeeeally love the "scalloped" serrations as i think they are called. And also S&W gave those sights the absolute longest sight radius they could. I hate glock but i love the 1911 series and also the Springfield XD and also KEL-TEC and sig (which are way too expensive) so im not myopic in my choice...it's just my fav.

Hi Tim,
I have one of these little beauties and think it is a TOTALLY SWEET piece.

Please keep up the work!
crazygolferv5 1 year ago
for someone who does this for a living, you don't know very much e.g. a lot of guns can't fire without the mag, and many people assume this is true for all guns. warning is a damn good idea given accidental shootings are most often caused by idiots who don't realize gun can fire without a mag. as for the mag without pinky extension - it may "feel" good but it has no impact on accuracy. accordingly they include the smaller one for better concealing. dumbass. also, 12+1. basic shit!
SupieCoopie 1 year ago
@SupieCoopie NO WEAPON HAS "ACCIDENTALLY" BEEN FIRED BECAUSE OF A MAGAZINE OR LACK OF A MAGAZINE. THEY HAD A NEGLIGENT DISCHARGE BECAUSE THEY BROKE THE RULES OF FIREARM SAFETY AND PLACED THEIR FINGER ON THE TRIGGER AND DEPRESSED IT WITHOUT KNOWING WHETHER THERE WAS A ROUND IN THE CHAMBER. PERIOD. dumbass.

Diemorder 1 year ago
FYI, that gun cost $900 because you bought it with an OPTIONAL Crimson Trace laser that retails for around $300 on it's own. That is not a standard piece of equipment on that pistol or any M&P for that matter. Another thing is the warning label is there because they make some M&P pistols with a disconnect, which requires the mag to be inserted to fire. This is to adhere to some state laws with those restrictions. Good review, but a little more research goes a long way.
LEDshooter 1 year ago
Good review Tim, although reviewing the M&P line is hard because of all the different variations (manual safety or not, 10 or 4.5 lb trigger pull, magazine safety or not, etc.). I think it's outstanding, but the price was too high so I went witha Ruger SR9c and LOVE it. If you ever review the SR9c, you'll notice how stiff and tight it is out of the box, but don't let that get you, after about 100 rounds it smooths out considerably.
martinitime1975 1 year ago
I love my 9c. The mag with no finger extension is for conceal carry and you carry the extended mag on your person. Duh dude. Glock only gives you 2 conceal mags! Fuck Glock!
It does not come with a crinson trace and i paid $590 for mine. It has an ambidextrious mag release. And its fukin accurate up to 100 yards with FMJ ammo. Dont ever load Winchester white box ammo and attempt to eject a live round. All other ammo is OK
Buy American! Fuck Glock!!!!!
GreenRiverOptics 1 year ago
@GreenRiverOptics piss on S&W M&P. It is mosty outsourced on its build. It WILL develop extraction problems due to a generically designed extractor not specifically designed for the 9mm, GLOCK set the standard and still IS the standard. S&W is smoke and mirrors. they are a sell out company.
HYBRIDCOMBATIVES 1 year ago
The reasoning behind them writing the warning on the slide is because some models have the magazine disconnect so that the gun will NOT fire without the magazine in place... good to know if you happen to grab it off of a downed man and aren't sure... rare circumstance I know, but still

Thank you for your newsletter and videos, they have great info.
mokyan7 1 year ago
I have the M+P .40c. It has 10 round magazines. A nice added feature is that it will take the full size mags from the "non-c" model. Finger ext. magazine is helpful for pinky support and accuracy. Easy to clean, reliable, had trigger work done too. Changed to the smallest palm grip, now is more stable in my hand. No laser is standard, it is a $150 or so upgrade, I think. Also like the Kahr P40, it is thinner and lighter, but only 6+1 rds. vs. 10+1.
mokyan7 1 year ago
You mentioned in the video that this gun would not be your first choice for a 9mm. Since I'm considering this gun for my next purchase and I'm taking all opinions, what would be your choice for a non-carry, full sized 9mm handgun?
MrLawn1 1 year ago
Are you going to rate it the way you rated the Glock 36? I really like the M&P because it fits so much better then then the glock!! I like the glock but for concealed i think the M&P offers a little more. Hope to see one soon! thanks and great vids! % stars broziff!!
DMFL22 1 year ago
Thanks for your efforts Tim. I think you would like the standard M&P 9c better than the one you used in the video with the crimson trace grips. Overall I agree with your assessment. I too wish Smith had not put the warning regarding shooting without a mag on the gun itself.

Thanks, Bill
wbrandenburg 1 year ago 3
