  • Sorry, it says CMI not CIS

  • Is CIS a real manufacturer of canteen cups? I just got a canteen cup with butterfly handles it's stamped US and CIS, but no year marking. Did a google search but couldn't find a list of cup manufacturers

  • Nice video. It really helps explain some of the often overlooked details of canteen cups. Personally, a longtime fan of the US "Butterfly" Handle model. Excellent presentation!

  • Woops! What i meant was Do u still SELL the fold out handle cup?

  • Do you still the fold out handle cup?

  • OK, great video. Being retired military, it should come as no surprise that I have a sentimental preference for the genuine military canteen cup. I am glad U have enlightened your viewers on identifying the genuine article. I would like to add that I am really happy with your canteen cup stove stand. Keep up the good work!

  • what is the year on that single handle cup? i have seen one dated 1965 and seems to have a flat lip

  • does the lock on the handle on the single handed cup come loose when you use it?

i bought a single handed cup off a surplus site ( it was a copy europes military made) its made of aluminum, its nice but it seems a bit smaller the the US one, and the lock on the handle comes loose sometimes when im drinking from it

  • @LawlietStudios Not really. The weight of the cup with liquid in it applies pressure to that spot so it stays in place. You may want to bend in the tabs a bit with some pliers, that may help.

  • I bought a canteen cup years ago its got the butterfly handles and in between handles its marked US WWM but has no date what do you think, is it a cheap knockoff? also is the gray colour a coating or was it beadblasted to make it less shiny in the field for military ops its starting to show some wear and is shiny under this coating. thanx for all the good info

  • @TheFlintnSteel WWM is the manufacturer of the butterfly handled cup in the video.

  • Yep the stove gets stuck to the bottom of the cup, but it don't get in the way and you can set it back on the fire. I think it is an advantage that the stove get stuck on the bottom...think it was made that way?? YEp

  • the lid on the vargo cup is damn near HORRIBLE. it just slides all around. i prefer to use the snowpeak solo.

  • I came across my dad's canteen cup from when he was in the Army. It is made by Ingersoll Products. Is there an easy way to tell if it is stainless of aluminum? I can't find any specifics online and he wasn't sure either.

  • @brhitch stick a magnet to it.

  • @Bewarethe1 magnets will only stick to low grade stainless steel, High Grade stainless will not be magnetic.

  • I was thinking that one of the handles on the round cup could be slightly bent so that would create a friction lock between the handles. Just a thought, I don't have that cup so I am not sure if it will work. Geoff

  • Hey, thanks Rob. I bought a PAC FAB marked cup the other day and I didn't know these butterfly handles locked like that. Good stuff, I like my cup even more now! Side note: got mine for $2.00 at my local Army/Navy shop. I'm in there a lot and the guy gives me a deal here and there. haha. Again, thanks for the vid.

  • Thanks I just looked at my canteen cup its dated 1953 wow 57 years i just bought it along with the cover and canteen.but i think i want a nalgene canteen because i dont think its safe to use.

  • hey, i just recently got a butterfly handle cup on ebay, its got a gray-ish finish on it, and between the butterfly handles it says "US PAC FAB" but no date, is it legit? Oh, and the handles lock into place, and its got the correct shape, and lip etc, i just wanna know, thanks!

  • @survial97 It is legit, Pac Fab is one of the companys contracted to make the cups - sometimes they year stamp them and sometimes they don't - your good bro!

  • That cup with the brass handle just has too many moving parts that can fail and be difficult to repair. In a survival situation, you want equipment that has as few moving parts as possible. That philosophy should extend to folding knives, flashlights, shoes, and backpacks. If a mechanical component fails and can't be fixed, it becomes dead weight and potentially dangerous.

  • Rob, Any chance you could get Heavy Cover to make a Vargo lid?

  • @woodcrafter76 They are working on it. They found a manufacturer for the Metal lid for the BCB and Canteen cup.

  • will the vargo cup fit around the guyot standard 38 oz bottle? or just the backpacker?

  • @camikins772 It will fit around the 38 Oz.

  • Nice review, you and Dave have made me much more aware of cooking vessels

  • The Crusader is similar but there are some subtle differences in Design and handle placement, so the lid will unfortunately not fit.

  • That first cup looks just the same as the crusader.Any one no if the hard cover fits the crusader ??

  • Hey Rob, Great video. Used my Vargo cup the other day to make my son and I some hot chocolate. It works awesome and the cover is great too. Cant say enough about this product. Well worth the money. Brian

  • @wildmutt1978 Glad you guys enjoyed the gear!

  • Nice of you to make this video, it answeres lots of questions i had.

    Thanks

  • now this is a very good video Great job!

  • 5/5

  • Thanks, i was wondering what the differences are between the two canteen cups. Now i know

    Thanks

  • I like the flat handel. i can slide my knife in the horizontal slot to place it in the fire better if useing a fire to cook and the vertical slot to hang from tree or something like that to collect water. great vid. like the old WW2 stainless canteens also have 4. would like to see a review on them. thanks for the time on the vids.

  • Nice review and comparison, thanks.
