My teacher just did this reaction outside our school last week and it was so cool watching the liquid iron flow from the pot that held the FeO and Al! You could feel the heat from 20 ft away. And she kinda ruined the grass in one spot which was funny.

But you also know that planes hit the builtdings. I don't think you understand just how much energy was released. Thermite can form if rust (such as rusty support structures) come in contact with aluminum airplane parts. Damaged electrical wires can short out at 120V with over 100A of current and if the wires seperate then the current flows through an arc as hot as burning thermite. All kinds of stuff could mix and burn and the heat from multiple fires can combine and make hell.

The glowing metal coming out is from one of a few things:

1) Electric arcs from damaged and shorting wires have melted metal which is now dripping out.

2) Airplane aluminum in contact with now exposed rusty support beams in the building when heated by burning jet fuel ignites a thermite reaction.

Only way that amounts of white glowing steel can form is thermite or industrial furnaces. No way that shorted wires could melt anything else but wires themselfs. Get you facts right. I have grade in mechanical engineering and machining...
