The american pit is a working breed that needs this excercise the problem are irrisponsible owners who do not excercise there dogs. A pit is one of the smartest breeds and will find destructive ways to entertain themselves (like chewing furniture) if they are not excercised.

No, these dogs love to bite and hold. When very young, I had a neighbor who raised these dogs for fighting. I think fighting them is wrong, but the dogs loved the hard training he made them do. Apparently, their jaws lock closed when they bite hard. It's a part of their instinct and breeding, and I'm sure they enjoy it.
