@WiseTube he didn't leave intentionally it was the rest of the band who took it as a split, but i reckon that sometime in the next 2 years portnoy will try and re-kindle what he had with dream theater and my favourite band,my inspiration and the music that has forever changed my life will return.
@WiseTube he asked DT to let him back in already, they told him no! the way he left wasnt right. he told them he wanted a break from music then toured with another band (A7X). after the tour was over A7X didnt want him because he was alot more famous then them and didnt want to be mike portnoy and the A7X. the way i see it, theyre better off without him! some one like marco minneman (not joining DT) would be alot better musically. he was a founding father of DT but that doesnt mean they need him
don't you hate it ehen peope make fake accounts i got facebook today and joined his groups everything and what i sa was like 4 other pages i hate those kind of people
It is not Rudess's technical ability that makes him wonderful--though I do appreciate that; it's his creativity. That is what sets him apart from all of these concert pianists who's chops are on par, if not better than his. They play the music of others, and he creates his own, on a frequent basis too.
Its like Fairyland,Phillipe isnt like the Grayest nor fastest keyboardist on earth, but you just gotta love his creativity,Its like your in a movie battle or something.Just listen to the Opening Credits of Score to a New Beginning
He got into Julliard at age of 9 for classical music. Has anyone of your concert pianists accomplished that. And stating that your going to music school, your in a band, and you've played at multiple concerts really doesn't mean much, I'm sure every other person at your music school has done the same thing.
@joeyjaspers For the record, it wasn't the actual university. It was their program for young, talented students. I'm not trying to downplay the significance, just point out that he didn't get into the (arguably) most world famous university at 9...

what MyzTiC44 trying to get at is, hes talented, well educated, experienced, but not God. God is God not Jordan Rudess. But hes close to holy ill say that.
@megatallicadeth Yeah, true, one of the youngest pupils ever to attend. He was a classical pianist for a long time, but then while under study at Julliard, he got involved with keyboards and took the technological route, that's what separates him from most concert pianists, he isnt' a pianist, he's a keyboardist.

i play piano for several years now, i also play the saxophone....
play on different concerts, i am in a big band, and was in quite a few music-groups, and i am on musical school.
and i also saw them live.
my opinion is,... that he isnt as good as top-concert-piano players. he is very, very, very good, but not a god or something like that... fans just always overstate this !!!
i also like his compositions, but they are not as brilliant as ravel, etc... thats also overstated
@MyzTiC44 Yuo can't really compare him to "top-concert-piano players" because it's a different genre entirely, it's like comparing B.B. king to Malmsteen. They both do their own thing, may be on the same instrument, but not the same thing.
Funnily enough i also play piano and sax to a high standard. If you don't believe him to be as good as top concerto players then fair enough. I would just recommend listening to JR playing something like the revolutionary etude.
I can play most piano music with some ease and have played some Rudess but the guy is so at one with the music that he is the piano god as he can play anything he wants.
Also, composers of times gone by have aquired legendary status. Compare them to today.

i fucking get sick of all this apotheosis.
he is no god, just look at classical pianists (alfred brendel, arcadi volodos, vladimir horowitz, and so on...)... they are all better then jordan rudess....
i am a big dt-fan but he cant be compared to them.... so stop saying he is one... he is awesome, but not the best in the world or something like that.... there would be so fucking many who would be able to play this !!!, thats a fact !!!
dude...hes finished his classical piano education...worked with many bands throughout his life...he has more experience than any other dt member....and a more diverse field than possibly any other musician...he is nothing less than god
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
he is no god !!!, thats just stupid.....
if you got so much time to say crap like this, then spend some time looking on the internet:
arcadi volodos, vladimir horowitz, fazil say, emil gilels, vladimir ashkenazy, glenn gould, alfred brendel, glenn gould....
and then tell me, they are not so good as him (not even better), and every piano-teacher or professor, who read this, will notice, how less you know about music, or classical piano
I don't think you understand the idea of progressive music it's not about following the "rules" of music and the classical note sequences the idea is to try new things thats why it doesn't always perfectly fit the standards of playing as piano-teacher or professor thinks is the right way.
that one had everything! an intro guitar solo, extended verse ala FII demo version, budokan-esque middle guitar solo that was better than the one on DVD and a rudess jam at the end!
i wasn't TOO thrilled at first but dt sold me on it. it was awesome

Even if this a Jordan's work, this song makes me feel how
i miss the "Hollow Years" of DT, Mike Portnoy was the blood of
the band, and someday i hope he can regret his decision of leaving,
and bring once more at least, my favorite band, back to life.
