  • Sierra Boggess is THE ONLY Ariel in the world!! Trust me, I know her. She's so sweet, and amazing in Love Never Dies, too!

  • Sierra looks so beautiful, she was the perfect ariel on stage, I think no one could ever be as great as she. Jodi Benson owns the role, but Sierra is the only person who can share it. The original broadway cast was phenomenal.

  • Aww! Sierra is so cute as Ariel!

  • @live4ever4022 They didn't do the diamond tattoos because they didn't translate well from far away.

  • Codys so much hotter with blonde hair!!

  • triton is hot!

  • Why does Cody always look so much older when he has the blond hair wig on! XD

  • tyler maynard FTW!!! =]

  • It is just like when they take books and turn them into movies (The Little Mermaid is a book written by Hans Christian Andersen, which dramatically changed for the movie), they change the people around, their lines, and the places in which certain events occur.

All that matters in a show is that the people can sing, act, and dance to portray the character that they are assigned.

Can't we just enjoy the musical for what it is and not criticize what the people look like?

  • When I went to see Wicked Fiyero was black. He is normally white in the stage show.

In the book he is of dark skin and has blue diamonds on his face, chest and hands, they sure didn't do that in the musical.

  • Musicals and Movies can do what they want

  • they based it on talent not complexion

  • awsome!

  • I love Ursula's make up and outfit, in general all their outfits are great, but I still have an issue with the weird fins hanging on the mermaid's back, and the roller skates feel childish. Set designs are lacking a lot, they look very plastic, I wish they were as colorful as their outfits. The cast is amazing thou, they make it all worth it.

  • the roller skates help make is underwater-ish.

  • way to get to the point. haha.

  • People are people. Regardless of color. Who ever said that the characters in the little mermaid were supposed to be a certain color?

    The color purple argument--

That show is ABOUT RACE!! Obviously you can't have a white person play one of those characters...

  • You guys are missing the point that Norm Lewis is extremely talented.

  • i don't understand why everyone is getting angry with king triton being black. it doesn't matter if some one if white, black, asian or any other race we are all =. i saw the show and i was amazed. they don't pick people for there race in a broadway show. that doesn't matter. they pick people for there talent.

  • that's like if they cast a black man superman or spiderman...it just doesn't make sense...and the same goes vice versa it's like if they cast a fat white guy to play biggie just because he can rap better...you see how it doesn't work.

  • I would LOVE to point out that in the movie, Triton has MUCH darker skin than Ariel or any of his daughters, enough to be considered a person of color or a black person. I think the guy who plays Triton is FANTASTIC!!!

  • I'd also like to point out half the cast ARE FISH!!! you are sincerely one of the most ignorant people to comment on here JillStrif. Take it from a woman who actually does theatre, when translating Disney characters who are say oh CRUSTATIONS any race works. Not to mention the fact that as Carribean sea creatures if you want to get technical all the Mer-people should be dark, and the English sailors white.

  • I actually do do theater. I'm not ignorant in any way, I'm just not pathetic and I say the truth.

The mermaids are not fish. They are people with tails.

In the MOVIE which this is based off of, they are a white family. Why change it to calm the politically correct assholes? Let's change The Color Purple.

You have no understanding of anything. You are a complete idiot. You're ignorant to think I am ignorant, you just simply do not understand. You're one of those assholes.

  • How many more examples do you have other than the color purple? I've seen you use that over and over again.

  • It doesn't matter. You're all fucking morons.

It's impossible for any of you to grasp reality and comprehend anything that you aren't brainwashed into believing.

  • pppl this dude/ette has madre their point and put it straight AND THEIR RIGHT so dont get all shirty with ppl for having their say...thts what trhe comment thingy is for!!!!!!!

  • This is such an amazing comment. Thank you and your so incredibly right!

  • Exactly! In Wicked, they cast an Asian as Nessarose. It didn't matter. She was amazing! Onstage, it's not going to show up as much anyway. Stage lights are designed to be bright. They're going to wash him out to a degree. Not enough to hide his skin color but still. It shouldn't matter whether he's black or white. He's an amazing actor and I'm glad they chose him instead of a maybe less talented but racially fitting person.

  • On the race thing...

Colorblind casting. If an actor is talented and fits the role, then they should get the role, yes? Yes.

However, a show like The Color Purple, it is stated that the cast is majority African American. Not the cast in TLM.

Besides, Norm Lewis' voice is so goregous and harsh for Tritan.

  • Kathy Bates was in The Family That Preys. Besides, most of his work is based on his own experiences.

  • Kathy Bates and KaDee Strickland were in The Family That Preys. Its a Tyler Perry movie. Next Question?

  • i totally agree!!! i hate how some shows are just one color! at my school, there are most whites and i hate it! i think that everything should be integrated

  • "i think that everything should be integrated"

It's 2009 buddy. Everything IS and has been integrated.

And there are still if not the same amount of racial problems.

If you force two different groups of people together who DON'T WANT TO GET ALONG on both sides, you get chaos.

  • This is the most integrated show on broadway!!Im sooo happy!I lik how they blacks n whites, not all of the sisters have red hair,y shuld they all be of the same color??The other flounder isnt white.Neither is King Tritant,or one of the eels.Having everything integrated is very important!!!

  • "Having everything integrated is very important!!!"

    lmfao. sigh.

  • About the whole "Triton-black thing." I am a true Little Mermaid Broadway Musical Fan. True fans of this musical would not care or give a jonas.

  • The fact that you just wrote "give a jonas" makes your comment not matter at all.

  • Oh mi gosh, I just LOVE Flotsam and Jetsam...Tyler and Derrick are simply amazing! <3

  • triton is like real hot!!! man his body is off the chain!!

  • What about his voice?

  • oh his voice is great too!!! loves it

  • i have to litsen to it everyday to satisfy myself (no joke on that one) We can't forget about sean palmer though. love him, too!

  • Why is her dad black when he wasn't in the movie?

That's like making a character in The Color Purple white and telling people to "look beyond the race and listen to the story."

  • actually, it's not like that at all. You can't compare the two. The Color Purple is a show with a racial theme. There have been hundreds and hundreds of shows on broadway with multiracial actors. Look at Rogers and Hammersteins Cinderella (the brandi version) it's not an uncommon thing at all. In a show where race is never mentioned it is perfectly acceptable to cast a black father and white daughter. They've done it for years.

  • absolutely.

not to mention, the actor who plays triton has an amazing body and an even more amazing voice!

  • His voice just blows me away! Seriously, I have to litsen to it EVERY day. No joke. If I can't hear it, I get VERY restless.

  • Exactly. It shouldn't matter that Triton and Ariel are different races. Look at Brian Stokes Mitchel. He played a number of roles that were "supposed" to be for white actors.

  • Comment removed

  • are you talking about Sherie Renee Scott? 'Ursula'

because Ursula can be white or black

  • Comment removed

  • what the hell is wrong with being black??? racist...

  • Comment removed

  • Well, if you look at the other daughters some are white, some are black and some are Asian. It's a fictional story. It doesn't matter.

  • You must be a rascist freak who cares about herself. I suggest you take your comments somewhere else. What matters is talent. You must be as shallow as a kiddy pool/

  • Comment removed

  • Then explain your racists comment. Show me the frikin constitution. Where does it say: Little mermaid broadway musical people can't be of different ethics? Huh? Nowhere! Accept it and move on with your life.

  • NO IT DOESN"T. IF YOU WERE A FREAKING MOVIE DIRECTOR, U'D ONLY HIRE WHITE PEOPLE REGARDLESS OF TALENT OR NOT. BE A LITTLE OPEN TO CULTURES. Open your eyes and accept people for who they are. Jeeze, you must of been one of those people who wouldn't want Civil Rights.

  • Comment removed

  • yeps. i'm joking lol XD

  • Color does matter in that situation. That story is ABOUT race.

The little mermaid is just fun. (=

  • Comment removed

  • Scuse me?

  • lolz i saw this with my camp.my friend thinks trevor braun (the white flounder)is hott.

  • he's like 11...

  • why r there two flounders?

  • They are under 18, so one can't do all of the shows because of child labor laws.

  • that, and one could be an U/S. Like in the lion king for the young simba

  • Well one does the evening performances, and the other does the matinees. Like in Mary Poppins where they have three of each Banks child.

  • they just alternate the roles. some nights one flounder plays and other nights the other plays

  • i love how cute ariel and prince eric look!

  • im not racist but notist how king trinton is black! how does that work, can any one tell me?

  • well he has an under the sea tan.

  • welll... idk.. but i did she the show and i thought that it might be a little confusing because you think of them how they are in the movie but two of the the daughters are black and then there is like an hispanic one and an asian looking one so its like they are all different... its not like they are all white and he is black... after awhile you forget the way it was in the movie and you forget the differences between the girls and the king :D

  • why r there two flounders?

  • WHERE are these pictures? I want to see them so badly. There was a severe lack of Flotsam and Jetsam in the program, IMHO.

  • Does anybody have these pictures?????

I sooo want to see them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    thanks

  • Love all the photos, but "the Ariel and Eric´s photos" ARE THE BEST!!!!!!

  • I wanna see this sooo badly!! It looks sooo good! Sierra Boggess is sooo georgous with an equally georgous voice! My cousin says that the guys who play Flounder are hot....maybe when they're a little older...I'm gonna stop now. XD

  • i want the flounder and flotsam costume!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • FLOUNDERS are so cute.

  • I WANT FLOTSAM'S COSTUME!!!!!!!!

any1 wanna make one for me.

    lol

  • dudes....triton is hot

  • hehe....

  • i love the costumes! are these the pics that they used that are on the site? or can se expect more pics?

  • when you can walk withn your legs tied together then we can talk!!!

  • They put her tail in a weird place, though. It totally -is- coming out of her butt. They could've put it at less of an angle, or kind of dragging behind her, /anything/.

  • Kaleb Loves SHERIE RENE SCOTT!

  • cody is my uncles fiances cousin!!haha!

  • Hwo's Cody?

  • cody hanford..one of the flounders..i know im being racist but the white one

  • how the hell's that being racist?

  • because i said the white one....instead of JJ

  • .. thats not racist ..

  • ...ok then...but im gonna b related to him once my uncle gets married in june!

  • who is that lady at 00:18 ?????????

  • I think it's Carlotta (Heidi Blickenstaff)

  • I don't know who that is, but I think it might be Ursula in human form.

  • they don't have that.. ursula in human form

  • It's Carlotta, played by the amazing Heidi Blickenstaff!

Ursula is played by Sherie Rene Scott, and they removed the whole Ursula-becoming-human-to-thwart-Ariel's-kiss thing and put in this random Princess singing contest. You can see the pics for that at 00.12.

  • Nah, that doesn't happen in the play. It's probably Carlotta.

  • the CD is being premierd tonight at 9 as a whole on Playbillradio[.]com CHECK IT OUT!!! nd i saw this musical nd it was BEAUTIFUL!!

  • I'm hoping i will be home to listen to it.

  • I know i'm SO EXCITED! 8 MORE MINUTES!!!!!!

  • I hate it when I have a fin sticking out the side of my hip

    haha

  • sean palmer<3

  • beautiful cast and costumes...

though I think Ursula should be fat...

this actress looks more like the villain from TLM-II

  • Patti Lupone should have been Ursula...I think Sherie has a high voice.

  • That would be interesting lol, but Patti LuPone will be starring in the Broadway revival of Gypsy as Mama Rose this March, so it would be impossible!

  • She is sopoues to be skinny... There is a song in the show called "Wasted Away" and she talks about how she has nothing left and she use to be fat but now that she isn't the queen of the sea she has lost everything... its a very good song.

  • the way I see it, Ursula can be depicted as a fat contralto or a skinny b*tch and Sherie Renee Scott does the second depiction very well lol! She's awesome!

  • yeah thats what me and my sister said! and the villain you are talking about is ursula's sister morgona

  • I'm so excited! Lately I've been so intrested in theater.

  • because of the labor laws they cant do 8 shows a week, so they do 4.

  • why are their two flounders??

  • they do alternate nights. neither can work full time because they are only children.

  • Ah! I want to see this!

  • I love I love I love I love Ursula's costume! And the eels... :3

  • me too! the hair is really awesome.

  • 0:33

    So cute!

  • i think 0:23 is cute!

  • The two Founders? Very cute. X3 BTW, I meant Sierra/Arial was cute at :33.

  • oh, i know i think thats cute also, i love her pink dress

  • the pink dress in the musical is MUCH better than the one in the movie

  • i know! i would so wear that dress everyday

  • The Flounder costumes aren't even costumes. They're shirts. Who ever is in charge, FIX IT LIKENOW.

  • sierra's pretty just like ariel and i love her voice. the mermaid tail is a bit odd tho

  • very nice.

see me singing 'Part of your world " please.

    Yana :):)

  • That looks more like Morgana than Ursula...weird. It looks like it's going to be an amazing show!

  • I got to see it when i was in Colorado on vacation and the costumes were AMAZING!!!! all of them worked perfectly in the show. The sets were sooo cool too. can't wait for the program and cd!!!!

  • Ahh i love the flounders too!! They are awsome! They are actually my friends! =] Im so proud of them!!!!! They are so adorable!!!

  • I LOVE SIERRA'S PINK DRESS! and i love the flounder costume! but who dosent love the pink dress

  • haha-i want to steal that pink dress

  • me too lol

  • i also love ursula's costume. i understand how it might not look big enough, but her tentacles can spread further apart and make her look huge. plus all of those tiny detailed spots also glow in the dark and with her wig and makeup it just looks so cool! you cant really truly judge the costumes by this because you can't see them in context

  • i understand that you might think by looking at this that flotsam and jetsam look bright, but TRUST me. they look entirely different when on stage. they have awesome blacklighting that makes them glow this eerie neon green color and makes them look sinister. their costumes work perfectly for the show

  • why is everyone giving this comment a thumbs down? i agree. the costumes are great, but some could be better

  • your talking as if this is disney's youtue account

and your telling them to change stuff

    haha

    wow

  • Sierra looks beautiful!

  • Why make this million dollar musical if you are going to make everything the same??? I mysylf really enjoy how the costumes look, very detailed.

  • Again... You might think your pushing boundaries by altering their original look. BUT TRUE MERMAID FANS WANT TO SEE WHAT WE SAW IN THE MOVIE. THAT IS WHY IT WAS A HIT. Now your only taking away from a cult Disney classic. Well. To me at least.

  • Another thing about URSULA's costume... The colors look like Ariels.. I really don't like the colors.. Same with The eels. KEEP THEM BLACK. I am wondering if you changed the colors for political reasons... but they should be black. Or dark. It just is their original colors.

  • it would be hard to see them in such a dark color!

  • this musical is SO freakin good! i saw it in denver and it was amazing!! where did u find this vid?

  • Flounder... At first..I really wasn't feelin the look..and I'm still kinda not..but then again I think about his character... I wouldn't let his look get to me so much. Ariel and Ursula. They are your priority visually. Everyone else can slide. But if they don't meet or exceed our visual expectation. Like I said. Forget about it.

  • Second. And this is a big one. URSALA...your ok with direction of facial makeup..the wig is hot. I wasn't sure at first... but the bottom is ALL WRONG. She is not a skinny diva. URSULA IS A BIG BIG BIG personality. The costume choice is completely wrong in my personal opinion. I only want to help! trust. If I can think of something better... You HAVE TO! She practically holds the show down. If she is off visually for any mermaid fan. forget it. you lost one of your best draws.

  • Oh come on you guys! Give the Little Mermaid musical a chance. Sure I agree that Flounder costume is not the best idea. But the costume designer is doing best he or she can.

  • not approving. marcus bellamy

  • I realize that my last comment is not a positive way to approach feedback. This is my honest opinion of the video I just watched. First Ariel's tail. Where is the fluidity to it? It looks very short and stiff. There is something tacky about the lack of illusion. There are much better ways to make her look like she doesn't have legs, when she is not suppose to.

  • I also read a comment AmbyLeigh posted. I agree. You are drawing too much attention to her legs by adding all the extra. Keep it simple on the legs, and go much much further with that tail. Try thinking of the flipper as the visual expression of her inner dialogue. You can dig deeper.

  • Ariel looks like she has a growth on her hip. If they are not going to try and hide her legs... don't draw MORE attention to them but making it look like she has a whole 'nother tail.

  • how do you know this was in Denver? Are you sure it wasnt in NY? I actually really like Flounders costume!

  • I think this it's from Denver i hate Flounder's costume!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i agree with you broadwayboycmg, i love the flounder costume (besides what else would they wear)

  • True that. Flounder is a young boy his costume should just be fun, like it is.

  • Costumes can be fun without looking cheap and thrown together.

  • wow!

  • two flouders? why?

  • Those are just the two little boys playing Flounder. They alternate different nights.

  • ok thanks...the flounder's custome is very horrible....

  • I agree, they look like Sponge Bobs!

  • i think they're adorable! i love the flounders!

  • OMG I am sooooo excited!!!!!! Thank you so much for posting this!
