just another great from that era; forgotten by some but these days, prople look at the amount of views and not know what the real is in music itself. great song and god bless u bryan ferry for this. ur troubles aft ar not more then a deflection of who u really r!
read a 1975 year end edition of ROLLING STONE, the writers there were asked to comment on what bands would have the most influence the following year and decades to come..3 choices STEELY DAN..BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN E STREET BAND and ROXY MUSIC..i think they got it right that time..this is a great song but I think "BOTH ENDS BURNING" and "COULD IT HAPPPEN TO ME" are the best songs on the album. i saw ROXY MUSIC '75 in CLEVELAND..
Anyone and everyone who has problems criminological can identify with the sentiments of Bryan Ferry concerning the necessity of murdering one's lost lover. A bitch, a twitch, a convenient ditch, 2 shells traversing at divergent angles...are the ingredients for the recipe: another woman--another chance.
BIENG HIGH SOMETIMES IS THE ONLY WAY TO ESCAPE THIS FUCKED UP SOCIETY..I COSUMED DRUGS AND BEEN CLEAN,BUT I DO NOT THINK ROXY MUSIC MEANT IT LIKE THAT AS OF DRUGS ANYTHING IS ADDICTING SEX,MUSIC,NOW ALL THESE KIDS W/ CELL PHONES PILL POPPERS SOMETIMES AMISH LOL...AND NO RESPECT ITS SOOO BAD EVEN AMISH MAKE (MEED) 1st IT WAS THE VIKINGS HELL YEAH THAT MEED WAS LIKE WHITE LIGHTING...ALL THEM HOPS MELLOWED THEM OUT AND FEPT THEM FROM YANKING ON EACHOTHERS BEARDS LOL,TWFWO..
This is my favorite song off of my favorite Roxy Music album. When I was young and felt the sting of lost love this song, and the similarly great "Romeo and Juliet" by Dire Straights were what I listened to. Both songs to this day remind me of a girl, one that got away. I found another, and am happy, but I'll always remember that first one.
I loved Ferry, the broken Casanova, ever lamenting losing his soulmate and never getting over it. He never stopped reliving the loss and how he tried to get over this woman by sampling countless others. But Ferry was never a bragger about female conquests, but self-deprecating over his inability to find another true love through his playboy methods. His songs were so very refreshing in the day of idiots like Bad Company singing "I Can't Get Enough of Your Love." Yuck!
Ferry has no match in intelligent songwriting since Lennon/McCartney. Bowie approaches but gets lost in camp and self-love.
Just Another High is a masterpiece worthy of Paul Verlaine, Baudelaire, Oscar Wilde. I saw Roxy at the Hollywood Palladium in '75 for this album's tour. they did not play this song, but were spectacular nonetheless.
Anyone who ever had a broken heart will not find a finer song to ease the pain.
I was going thru the lost love phase in 82 and was going thru my Roxy back catalogue. I must have played this song on my walkman, oh, about a thousand times. The ending still sends tingles down my spine.
Anybody ever try to play this one on the guitar? It's deceptively tricky...there's something about the progression, and where the one-beat falls, that makes it really weird and serpentine. Plus it changes key, but totally seamlessly. In short, straight-up brilliant composition. And damn hard to duplicate!
Laid on couch and heard this song. It's been a favorite ever since. Always liked the jangley guitar songs, Cream's Dance the Night Away---Richenbachers
I'd hate to choose between this and Both Ends Burning for the best song off Siren. BEB has more energy of course but this is so brilliant, especially the last verse: "Singing to you like this is my only way to reach you..."
playing with is killing me!!!
