We had a demo of this last week and the console was SO BLOODY NOISY
They showed us the virtual soundcheck which was a joke. The screen on the console is basically unusable, and it's a pain in the ass to make any number of fast changes. I'm sure there are some cool uses for this board, but I'm not impressed with it at all
We have an old Crest analog beast of a board so it was basically apples and oranges, but even the guy who's using the studiolive right now for mixing the videos says he has to use anti-noise filters in DAW on most of the channels.
We used the "virtual soundcheck" to record our kick drum, and when it was played back through the board, it sounded NOTHING like the live sound.
I am curious how you mixed using your Iphone when the 24.4.2 does not have motorized faders. Don't get me wrong, motorized faders on live road board is just asking for trouble. Just Curious?
I've started looking into the 24.4.2 for my own home recording and setting up live rigs and I came across this video and it's crazy that my band played a show with the band on this!
It's pretty cool that you can control the StudioLive with your iPhone, I mean it's a nice gimmick but really? IRL I would've just picked up my Macbook Pro and find a good spot.
@MercyStudios That would work, but you'd have to have two computers. Controlling the StudioLive from the iPhone relies on screen-sharing/VNC with a computer plugged into the StudioLive over Firewire. So no matter what you have to have a computer plugged into the Mixer running the VSL software.
@woodjosiah Hmm yeah that's right though. So the best idea would be to get an extremely long Firewire cable, or a relatively long one for medium sized venues. Though you would still have to run a cable though the middle of the venue which is of course a bad idea to begin with..
@MercyStudios firewire is only reliable upto 30ft with a really high quality cable - the IEE1394 standards only say it has to be 10 feet max - a long cable is not an option
@MercyStudios usb can run upto 15 feet then it needs powered extender cables or repeaters - you can get the same thing for firewire but it causes latency issues and recording glitches - this is why everyone sticks to a short 3 foot cable then uses wireless vnc or similar to control the computer that is connected via a cable :)
but can you record your faders movement like fades in fades out?

@021kdu No, I'm sorry. However, Studio One supports mix automation, and it's very easy to do!

is there an automation?

@021kdu Sorry, the StudioLives do not have automated faders.

Can you go into more detail in your set-up how you run your cables and what snake or network system you are using or recommend with presonus.
