@unclejubalon Cool! My son grew up on Bone Machine and used to call Tom "the man with the lion voice" when he was two! He still loves Tom now at 19. Good lad!
Scriabin28, that was one of the most intutitive and beautiful descriptions/interpretation of a feeling of a song I've ever heard! It makes the whole song so much better (never heard much Waits before). I think I felt the same thing you did, or at least I could see what you felt.
PS. I do wonder if maybe the video would be more smooth if the pictures had more of a transitional effect (fade in/fade out) when it changes picture to picture?
PPS. Have you taken any of the pictures in the video?
@Captaino6 And that's the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me on YouTube! Thank you!
This was the first video I ever made and I hadn't worked out much about the program and that stage. It would definitely be better with a few transition effects.
Yowsa , Yowsa, Yowsa ! These dance hall black and white pics conjure up images al right. I can`t say that i agree that Tom`s briliant song fits those images but they were nice to see anyway.
@rlegear19 I know what you mean, but I've always focused on the music of this song rather than the lyrics (which I don't understand). To me, it's always sounded like a dance in some dusty hall in the middle of nowhere with a band of elderlies on stage. But, of course, it's Tom, and he leads my imagination to something bigger than that: there's a real magnificence in that funny, quaint, odd Salvation Army sound. Dreams of grandeur coming from simplicity... which sort of explains the video.
@rlegear19 great song, but this video has nothing to do with anything........has nothing to do with Waits, or anything..i'm sorry, glad u posted the song, but you missed the mark more then if Justin Bieber covered Earth, Wind, and Fires Fantasy...
@MrOdin285 Oh well. I've already explained my motivations for using those images. Perhaps you'd prefer the slideshow I made for Fannin Street, which is much more literal.
@Scriabin28 hey man sorry about my comment..i lost a battle with Jim Beam and got ticked off at everything, damn New Years Eve..didn't even remember i commented until u responded..actually does fit a Waits song..my apologies
@MrOdin285 No worries at all. The only thing I'll never forgive you is making me go and find a Justin Bieber song to listen to. I'd never heard of him and I would have liked to have left things that way... :)
Watch American Heart (1992) to get the full impact of this beatiful, sad song from the closing credits. It's an absolute perfect fit for this great movie. Stars Jeff Bridges - It's his personal favorite of his movies.
@mgorfain Thanks for pointing out this movie. Just looked it up on IMDB and discovered the sound track not only has this song by Tom but also "jack's flashback theme", "I'm crazy 'bout my baby", and "jersey girl".
This CD (bawlers) will be the first CD my 5 month old daughter will listen to. She'll love it!

Thanks, mgorfain. I'll hunt it down asap. Did Tom write the song for the film?

Don't know ....but it sure seems like a perfect fit.....especially well timed right at the end of the movie. BTW, it's available on Netflix.

Thanks, etodd! I'm really happy you like it. I thought it might have been a bit too personal/quirky for other people to get into.
