Not really. It's perfectly normal to put a bed or other furniture on tatami mats. Yes, it does create a small indention similar to carpet, but like carpet, it will come up with time. Also, tatami mats are meant to be changed out very once in a while, so it's not like it's a permanent fixture.

This apartment is in Sendai, which is nowhere near Tokyo. It's in the Tohoku region, about two hours from Tokyo by shinkansen. Anyway, I lived in this apartment in 2006, 2007, and half of 2008. At that time, it was 57,000 yen per month, plus electricity, water, gas, etc. I believe the rent never changed the whole time I was there. Hope that helps. Good luck.

The second thing I want to say that the apartment is kind of small, but when you think and look better, there is just enough space for everything. In my country, that much space is for only one room(bedroom and dining room are the same-that's the smallest apartments here). It's not too big, it's not too small and I like it! And the toilet thing is funny and brilliant.
