Meh. Not to say Avril Lavigne is bad or that Coldplay is bad, but the two don't work well together. She just can't sing this song. Oh yeah, its sweet and everything, but if you take out the sweet factor all you have is some girl who is very off key and off pitch singing a song that needs a different kind of voice.

The reason why this cover doesn't quite work is because;

1. It's too fast.

2. She uses too high of a tone. She should have used her lower register, which is actually quite beautiful.

But, it's actually quite a nice cover, and her Piano playing is great too. I would have just prefered if she used her more beautiful lower register really :)

there is not doubt that she can sing, this is just not the type of song for her style of singing. it just sounds like she's trying to make it more powerful than it should be. this the type of song that becomes more powerful if you don't over sing and let everything be calm and natural. Avril Lavigne is a wonderful singer, but this was not a song she should've sung . . . or, at least, she shouldn't have sung it like this. The Scientist is one of my all time favorite songs.

@bpilotte The tempo/beat/whatever else is practically the same, but it has nothing to do with preference to male or female voices. It's the fact that when Coldplay sings it, the EMOTION is so much different. You can feel pain & sadness in his voice. Her voice doesn't even begin to express the emotions.
