e.g y=(x+3)^2+5 the 5 is the y-value and the 3 becomes a -3 and the +5 is the y-value so your vertex is (-3,5) and you have a basic opening up quadratic graph from there.

when you take half of 5 it turns to a decimal...do you have to turn it into a whole number?

x^2 + 5x = -6

x^2 + 5x + 25/4 = -24/4 + 25/4 (half == 1/2, 5/1 * 1/2 == 5/2 now square it, had to make both sides have the same denominator so 6/1 becomes 24/4)

(x + 5/2)^2 = -1/4 (use the shortcut instead of factoring, add -24 + 25 == 1, making it 1/4)

x + 5/2 =(+/-)sqrt(-1/4)

x = -5/2(+/-)sqrt(-1)/2 (take the square root of the top and the bottom - yup)

@Krazyness What do you mean by fraction versions? With fractions in the equation you mean? If that's the case, you can always find a common denominator etc, or multiply it out, or just solve it USING the fractions... Either way, there are plenty of options for you to manipulate the equation. Give some examples and I'll see if I can help you out :). They're always done the same way... If there's a fraction and you're dividing by two, just double your denominator (because ur multiplying by 1/2)

My teacher taight me to use 'r' (In this case 12) then r/2 = 6 and r(SQU) = 36

6 Goes in the bracket and 36 is subtracted, then the +30 would make (M-6)SQU -6
