  • Check out Regi in the beginning of the song and suppose to be playing bass but he's pointing at people?!? Make it less obvious you are lip syncing! lol GOOD STUFF

  • I think you were probably born recently mr u2hubbard, it will be utterly low sense of IQ of anyone to try to determine amongst funky soul legend bands or groups which one was better...INSHORT EVERYONE OF THOSE BANDS IN THAT ERA HAS IT'S OWN CHARACTERISTIC DNA THAT'S UNIQUE AND FULL OF SOUL POWER...read your black history of funky soul sounds, or just wish you were there like I was and still is, part of the appreciative fans of ageless and priceless funky soul sounds.

  • Ok Brick, the Gap band or Earth wind and fire. I like all 3 but which one was better. Send me your votes.

  • Only musical geniuses produces this type of groove beat..TRUTH!!!!!!

  • All those horns! Wow !!!

  • If the young people of today would just learn to keep their music simple like this....it would do well for millions more. My young nephew asked me the other day why his generation is so twisted? I felt bad to hear what he thought of his gneration. He said without any coaching from me that he can't relate to them on no level. He is only 19 and said this music makes him feel good while rap and the stuff they put out now makes him feel violent. It is so sad to hear that coming from a 19 year old.

  • Im all in my dorm studying for finals (sophomore in college) and i absolutely cannot stop dancing or listening to any of this good music. I could care LESS for Trey Songz & Keri Hilson, THIS IS WHERE IT'S AT! This is what I grew up on, I got parents born in '53 I LIVE THIS MUSIC!!

  • Brick was IT back in the day...1978 in Darmstadt and ;iving the life....oh weeeee.....

  • i love brick i feel like dancing ,only if i could go back in time when there was some real music going on .i love old school .

  • ...they played their own damn music!

  • This a dusty diamond. Classy and dance worthy. The music is too live and the guitar solo is grand and sexy. Go Brick.

    lovin it

  • FYI. Their sax player's son is Sleepy Brown. Look up Margarita on Youtube.

  • true classic, they don't make music like this anymore

  • .I was born in 97 &&' I listen to music like this. I'm not embarassed either.!

  • When Soul Music was THE sound! Happy music people!

  • I just found out about this being the OG "Ain't Gon Hurt Nobody"! Both this version and Kid N Play's version are excellent songs!

  • wow house party popped up in my head and i love that song " aint gon hurt nobody we just dancin yall! aint gon hurt nobody out der on the floooo!!!!" i could dance to that song all day n this one to of course

  • Aint that the truth..."It aint gone hurt nobody to git on down". Why can't we have it like that again. But rap will get you killed. Just ask Tupac and Biggie.

  • @Triskanivious Don't forgot about E. He didn't get a bullet but the lifestyle killed him all the same, screw anything with a pretty face.

  • What!!! On the One!

  • House Party 2

  • Bigups to Jeff Lang...

  • If u noticed today their r not alot of black artists out their right now. No male or female groups. You hear about the same handful of black artists Beyonce, Rhianna, trey songz. we had many artists to listen to solo or groups.

  • @zinagurl Amen. And we didn't care what they looked like...it was about the Music! You got the oh he's sexy, or she's fine..but it was still about the JAM! Cute and fine only got ya so far..ha ha..real musicians, real performers, real instruments!

  • According to my teen daughters they find the lyrics in todays music offensive, sex drugs, cars etc. nothing bot love and caring bot others, or self love. our fast music talked abot dancing. Artists today don't even bother to wear respectable stage attire. Breast falling out of outfits on purpose, Putting naked pix on internet. Thes artist r not groomed anymore. When is the last time u saw a artist take a bow on stage to thank their fans and show their appreciation it doesn't happen often.

  • I don't believe many of the young ppl enjoy the music from today I know my teens listen to the 70-80's music and they complain about the lack of true talant in this image driven industry=music biz. The fact that top artists are struggling to sel CD's and concert tix tels me somebody isn't happy. Its not becuz music is copied via internet. We could tape songs from radio and double cassettes but we still purchased albums and went to concerts. videos r not like seeing a concert.

  • Check out their latest "She's Got A Backstage Pass" (edited) on ou Tube music. Done this year.

  • You said it franz909...

  • I remember meeting him back in 1993 at my friend's house here in Macon recording some music. He was going though some things at that time. But, I was still star struck. I loved that group. Both Donald and Brick represented Atlanta. They represented Georgia. I did hear that he did get his life back together before he passed away.

  • RIP Donald Nevins. He's the keyboard player and original member of Brick featured here on this video. He passed away last sunday Aug 7th at age 62.

  • how could anyone fight on this page?

just lay back and listen to the dazz! i'm 19 and love funk and rap and bebop and a lot more stuff, but it doesn't matter right now because i'm just here to take a shower in this jam.

  • ALLL you mother FUCKER WOULDN"T KNOW A CLASSIC IF IT HIT YOU IN THE FUCKIN FACE>>>knoW Rythm havin ass jealous mothEr fuckaaasss....you prollyy wish you could die your skin black.

  • @CUTIEPIE4464 becuase they are not being introduced into it yet becuase there parents didnt bother which sucks....get a fuckin life just get over it....get a day job...NONe of yall played instraments so shup the fuck up and stop making remarks as if you know any thing about how to compose a song.or to know the meaning of a 16. that's 16 bars your idiots...

  • Good ole WVON & WYNR days!! No politics, just music...bring em back...

  • AIN'T GONNA HURT NOBODY 4SHO!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Real and genuine Music........

  • @LucyPearl58 ,fuck you.You don't know shit about music.Mani from N.O.L.AMAMhere,you wanna make stupid idiotic remarks you should look at our culture and and then go see if white people even have a culture.oh i forgot, they .so you can can eat shit you prick because frankly from your remarks it shows your white suburbia mentality which is a gated community secret society based upon riches passed down generations

  • as far as i know no parent invented gangsta rap or songs about screwing hoes. unless it was some drugfucked crim who fathered ten kids and never met a single one. some of these comments are right though. the kids these days have missed out on one crucial thing.. innocence. when they're raised on music that seems to revel in it's own misery and despair, and makes kids feel that that's how they're supposed to feel too, then really folks something's up. Bring joy back to our kids music!

  • @robe0239 preach !!!!!!!!!

  • We can't be too hard on these young people..it's really not their faults that they were not exposed to this level of excellence. Keep in mind we didn't have the internet back in the 70s and all this gangsta rap pushing ignorance and violence like today's rap. Our kids today are only responding to what they inherited and we allowed. In my home on my days off i expose my youngins to this era. I even have a son who is a skilled drummer, daughter studying piano. So it's up to older ppl to show them.

  • I'm 13 and white and I declare this great music.

  • I remember the Album this song was on. Used to play it so often. Brings back so many sweet memories of those days. Thanks for uploading this.

  • Excellent.

  • that was good

  • Yes! Can you say LIVE INSTRUMENTATION? Love it!

  • I like the (kid n play) version better but i also like this version too and stfu all you assholes who will probably be like you dont know music fuck you i play the tenor saxophone i know everything about music!

  • @TheCm900

no need to get all funky partner... :-D

    Cheers !!! ^^

  • Live Music on Soul Train! Excellent and rare.

  • Go on, I dare you... name as many lead vocal trombonists as you can (glenn miller does not count)..... love it.

  • They were good LIVE! too

  • tis is da cut...... memories thank you u tube..... that's all I have 2 say..

  • Definitely the CUT back in the day!! This brotha' pointin' at someone in the audience like they owe him money!! lol......

  • Reminds me of the good days; smiles and respect for each other!!!

  • jesus i love funk

  • I'm tired of all the smug old people on these songs. It gets annoying, cause all of them bash my generation. It's great that you want to voice your opinion, but instead of being smug about it how about you try getting people to learn to appreciate it.

@franz909 A good number of people in the rap game don't have talent, but don't stereotype what you don't know. Do some homework on J Dilla, Atmosphere, or 9th Wonder. Just like THEY did their homework on these oldies.

  • love this song!

  • @ franz909. Hah! very funny, very true.

  • I saw this band a few years ago at flashback in Atlanta. They are the BOMB!

  • Thank God for music from the 70's!

  • Before the ATL got on the musical map, these guys were flying up the Billboard chart with this classic jam.

  • AWESOME SONG ,AWESOME BAND!

  • refreshing to hear about not hurting ppl instead of drive bys and other nonsense...

this is what music is about have fun and not be negative! who else would vote instead of releasing new crap just periodicly play the old stuff, breing it back...

  • And you know this....

  • 2:46 - 2:53 Check out the man in the white with the glasses in the front. He was focused. love it

  • awesome!

  • yeah boy smooth ass 70's!!!!!!!

  • Brother in back on the keyboards got himself a serious afro!

  • I was 17 in 1978 & i remember this was played at EVERY party I went to ....i remember everybody used to do the WORM (not that dumb ish yuppy children did on their bellies in the 80s)...I'm talkin' bout THE WORM...i know you old dogs out there remember ...lean back as far as you can & give that torso motion only a female worm can understand...

  • Love the big smile on the lead singer/trombone players face! :)

  • @sfservice75 they baked

  • @MrRazmuss LOL...what did they bake? j/k

  • Love that almighty groove that starts at 1:45.

  • @shockg021 Thanks a lot for this!!!! The trombonist Jimmy Brown is a fantastic musician and songwriter/arranger. Brown plays not only the trombone, but also the saxophone, trumpet, flugelhorn, and flute. His baritone voice drips soul and moves your spirit to the heavens.

  • Brick was one of the funkiest bands ever thats 4 sure...Luv Em.......

  • Ray Ransom is still one of favorite bassists

  • aint gonna hurt nobody. wish we had this music to get down with for 2011. this is real dancing music.

  • OH MY FREAKIN GOSH! im 13 and just love this song! keep old school alive...PLEZ!! music like this makes a youngin like me wish i was born back then! :(

    I LOVE OLD SCHOOL....with a great passion! :)

  • I love their music!!! It may be old school, but hey its good. My uncle still listens to it all the time :D

  • I can't believe I was only 6 :-D

  • let's hear it for Funk which will never die

  • NOW this is MURSIC!...They will never do it like this again... so PLEASE KEEP OLD SCHOOL ALIVE ok Old Heads! lol @ Braves I was 10 in 1978 and used to dance my booty off to songs like this...lol

  • Amazing. I was 16, had my first car with applified speakers and grooved to this song all day and night.

  • Yes kids , those things they are holding are INSTRUMENTS and what you hear are slick funk arrangements w/ Horn Section (things you blow into to make a sound) and the reason why their PANTS aren't hanging off their ASS, that's called a Belt .

The Belt , predated rap and gold teeth was functional fashion accessory in addition to predating drug dealers buying studio time to play w/ drum machine to mass produce similar copied beat by sampling people w/ more TALENT .

    Enjoy the FUNK !

  • @franz909 I love your comment and agree with it a million percent, especially that part about sagging pants. I hate that, it is not attractive at all it just makes them look foolish. Anytime I see any of my nephews with their pants hanging down past their behind and I can see their hanes I hand them a belt and tell them to pull their pants up and I stand there and watch them until they do.

  • @franz909 let em know!

  • @franz909...seems you have a very limited and ignorant view of this generation. As a 23 year old music producer i'll be the first to say you have no clue what you're talking about.

Just as all heavy metalers aren't devil worshiping serial killers not all rappers are drug dealing thugs nor are ignorant of musicianship. On the contrary many hip-hop musicians are gospel musicians and some of the best out there. Also fyi, sampling generally died out in the mainstream. I advise you get out more...

  • @Juniversal I suggest you do some research on the music Industry , from your low level , naive position you obviously have no clue what is happening at the upper level ...Ability to read is a good start , nobody said ALL Artist are Occultist or Illuminati , however majority of top "artist " are pushing agendas LIKE TUPAC , DMX , ALALN WATTS , & professor grif HAVE SAID .

Prof. Grif said NOBODY reaches top level w/o joining Fraternal order , NOBODY . He probably knows more than YOU , a nobody .

  • @franz909...for one, that has no relevance to my comment. I said nothing about "occultist or illuminati". I only addressed your sweeping generalizations. Two, Prof. Griff is clearly a gullible conspiracy theorist. I can't believe how many fools buy into the illuminati conspiracy theories just because they read a book that contains no facts.

  • @Juniversal 'sampling dying out in the mainstream'?

Well I guess to some extent. But about 90% of rap tunes these days that aren't sampled, pretty suck I reckon.

  • @franz909 well done sir

  • I'm just tired of all the smug old people talkin about "their generations music" being better then ours. It's just different. Just like between the genre's. I bet ya'll don't listen to 1400's classical assembles either. Don't bash on the music that comes from a time period. Just because you don't understand it, doesn't mean it isn't good. And I'm not talk'n waka flaka, I'm talk'n Dilla, Kanye, and Outkast. They have talent and ya'll should do your homework before bashing on them.

  • @MrKurtz1000 I'm one of the "old people" and I appreciate your comment. I like many types of music (jazz mainly) but I enjoy funk, soul, rock, old school hip hop/rap...so some newer music (the harder core pop commercial stuff) comes off as a bit weak to me. I'd agree, however, that Kanye, Janelle Monae, and many others, including independent acts across genres, are doing music that shouldn't be written off. Helps that I have a 13 and 20 year old: They keep me listening and learning... :-)

  • Outkast use oldschool guys to make the for them, and Kanye sample all the time, all of his music is from old records. He is good when it come to rapping but his music is sample music.Young people make music with drum machines, sampler.

  • @MrKurtz1000 I'm a young cat with an old soul and I hear what you saying. But we do have to be honest, there has been a real shift in the Black community from life, wanting to live and get free, to death. The music reflects this. i.e. The Whispers song "Olivia" addresses the ills of pimping and prostitution, William Devaughn sings about being thankful for what you got, but today we glorify pimping and materialisism. We were in love with ourselves during the 60's/70's and the music reflects that.

  • @franz909 wonderful object lesson, franz! I had forgotten that singers could write and play as well as sing to a pre-recorded track. How did we get there?

  • @franz909 PREACH!!!!

  • @franz909 Amen!!! From the Book of Yesteryears; if it ain't broke don't fix it; sometimes change is a good thing; I believe we get caught up and our brains become scrambled EGGS, eventually they are a complete burnt-out. However we are slowly about to make a full circle. Maybe the trials and errors have allow us to appreciate what we have already accomplished.

  • @franz909 AHAHA epic comment

  • @franz909 Don't go to hard on these youngester. What your saying is over there heads. You got to show them this and try to bring back the style of 70's soul.

  • @franz909 VERY, VERY, VERY WELL SAID!

  • @franz909 Can we help that policy makers from your generation took away the music programs from our generation and the generations before ours? Older people always complain about our generation, but think about this question: Who raised us to be that way? What were you doing when you should have been raising us?

  • @franz909

I hear U. Music ain't what it use to be no more, n dat'z a shame...

  • @franz909 Thanks for explaining it to them.

I see dudes nowdays get on stage in shit we wouldn't even wear to the club back in the day.

Back then you had to sing, dance, play instruments, and be dressed to really entertain.

Today it's hold your dick and call her bitch.

The live show used to sound BETTER than the record.

  • @franz909 by the way franz 909 IM a fuckin producer.I make fuckin Beats ass hole.DO you know???the 909 drumkit which you took it upon yourself to name your self franz 909 is garbage.know producer in his right fuckin mine would ever use that bull shit.707"s they aight yes i said aight which is a form cut from the word alright, but any way 909 is garbarge.newsflash,im 20 going on 21 and ive never seen any body down hip hop like that.wish you were apart of the greatest genre ever BITCH!

  • @franz909 This oldman has atear i his eye for days long gone (never to return)

  • @franz909 shut the fuk up. . .

  • @MrRcftw why don't you shut the fuck up, you 21 year old no talented generation prick. No one wants you here. This is the adult section.

  • @GrandMasterGuess LMAO!!

  • @GrandMasterGuess hahahahaha you so crazy!

  • @MrRcftw Oh so very cool, from 1:46 through 2:18.

  • @markukkerd right on! . . right on!

  • '78 I was 15. I remember this 8 track.

  • @crossbronx63 1978 was a good year for music

  • @graydog788 the '70's period !!!!! long live groups like EWF, the Whispers, Confunkshun, Parliament, and the lists go on and on...Peace.....Lady L.

  • Right !

  • Look at all the instruments onstage. Bands had to know how to play back in the day. Of course, most of Soul Train performances were lip synced...but that's besides the point...

  • i'll bet steve arrington was watching close

  • Happy music. Nobody is being degraded in the lyrics, and the performers aren't degrading themselves on stage. So much has changed since this type of music.

  • Nice song!

  • Is it true? It really ain't gonna hurt nobody to get on down?

'Cuz my HMO doesn't cover any funk music related injuries.

  • One word: classic!!

  • AINT GONNA HURT NOBODY TO GET ON DOWN

  • don't stop the beat...

  • THAT'S MY COUSIN PLAYING BASS (RAY RANSOM)...

  • @emtae2 O yea, ask him if I can have his future royalty checks for this song. Jk. Tell him this song is awesome.

  • 0:10

  • what a wonderful saturday i havent listened to brick since college

  • thebcancey, you are correct about the date. It was so dang hot I forgot the date! I am a bass player, and since that day, I have been up at nite, re-learning 25-30 year old songs. Good music is, and will always be good music. It's timeless.

  • @vroumo It's all good bro.,...it was hottttt out there, but by the grace of God, and plenty of drinks, we made it!! It was Awesome, and I kept watching the videos we shot for days to come!!! Jam one for me while you "re-learn" the songs. I bet all kinds of memories come flooding back,...goood ones! God bless you!!

  • How does my daughter who is 17 know this song?

  • @bigdre360 probably from hearing it sampled in "House Party"

  • aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! snap

    FUNK

  • I saw Lakeside, Brick, Confunksun, Slave and others in Houston at the Sam Houston Race Park, on Sept. 24, and I mean to tell ya, these brothers, ESPECIALLY Lakeside and Brick can still throw down. Long live funk!

  • @vroumo Hey there my fellow Old Skooler!! I was there too, me and the Fam for my sis B-day, and I concur, it was off the chain!! One I won't forget!! It was dream fulfulling....btw, it was the 25th, a beautiful Saturday. God bless.

  • @thebchancey

thebcancey, you are correct about the date. It was so dang hot I forgot the date! I am a bass player, and since that day, I have been up at nite, re-learning 25-30 year old songs. Good music is, and will always be good music. It's timeless.

  • praise God for GOOD musiq! whoooo "Aint gonna hurt nobody! to get on down!"

  • the orginal funk this is some awesome shit so many memories

  • Musicians!!

  • this is the funk that everyone jammed to. back in 76 along with the barkays, sun , heatwave, and earth wind@fire. and of course the hottest chicks at house parties Denver! tap the next keg.

  • That kicks butt !!!

  • "Ain't gonna hurt nobody".....YEAH!!!!

  • Denver 1979. this was the party song and kegs were empty. girls turned it out! thanks Brick!

  • Classic music with horns. you gotta love it

  • Man! This one of the best Old School Jams of All!

  • I like Kid and Play's rap Version.........

  • @Smithworks2 true, kid n play's version was awesome, but nothing beats the original

  • this song was used in alot of Tyler Perry movies :)

  • my jam!

  • It's SCARY!Social trends come and go,but RAP seems to be here to STAY!!!

  • This old white girl loves her some classic funk, soul, and R&B. Music today is just noise.

  • fuck kid n play this is the shit!!!!!

  • Brick was the shiggedy. I love this song. Why can't there be great bands like that now? Man! I miss those times. Thanks for sharing this video.

  • Black, white, purple, talent is just plain talent.

  • P Diddy came along...thas what happend

  • Seen this group play in Durham this past Sunday along with Chaka Kahn on 6/20/10. The show was awsome!!!!!!!!!!

  • REAL!!!! Love it

  • Straight 100% Classic!!! no chaser...

  • you are so right about what you are saying, what happened to it. because the artist of today are not real musicians. they are here today and gone tomorrow. i'm tired of this sample of music. because its not theirs original sound. they copy from an album that had already been made. then they call themselves a producer sampling old school artists materials. we need more old school music playing on the radio because that was real music back in the day.

  • I got the privilige to record and jam with the guitarist of this wonderfull band

  • This is it real music performed by true musicians.

  • @david510152025303540

You are so right! There were so many groups that played their own music instruments back then. Going to see them in concert was such a pleasure. I miss all these soulful band and the rock and roll bands from the 70s and 80s.

  • @david510152025303540 Well put. Aren't they having fun too? They're smiling the whole time. It's a perfect moment in time. No one can take it away from them. I'm playing this over and over again with my two sons. This is great. (Heyyyy alright, here comes the trombone part again, I'm out.)

  • @david510152025303540 Sho nuff!

  • @david510152025303540 THE SOUND OF THE GIBSON LES PAUL GUITAR IS SO GOOD 1:47

  • @markukkerd Heh, yep that riff makes the song for me.

  • I am a teenager again, listening to this...AWESOME!

  • @my2centz I'm a teenager NOW, listening to this...AWESOME!!! =D

  • @monaj3lisa That is a good vibe you have as a teen , most teens are spoiled rooten by their parents and really don't play music for their kids , your parents did a good job on you
