I put my magnets in a film container. Way easier to clean off the black sand.

Just put the magnets in a plastic sandwich bag before you put the magnet near the black sand. Remove the magnet from the bag, and the magnet is still clean. Easy peasy.

to clean them, just take a strong, strong electromagnet, and it will all go to it. then turn the electromagnet off, and the magnetite falls off the electromagnet... its that easy ;)

I have a cubic inch of N-50 neodynium. N-50 is the strongest type of neodynium. It was really hard to find.

Thats probably N-20.

I have been doing lots of experiments and I have not detected that the sand has done anything to screw up the magnetic field.

Furthermore, the magnets are solid-state so the only place the sand ends up is stuck to either pole. 90% of it pulls off with my fingers, the rest takes time and effort, but it can be "wiped" clean with a clean finger after coaxing the sand to a single pole by running the magnet stack along the dirty ones individually. Wrap them in a sandwich bag if excessively anal.

it will not effect the magnets grade like alnico magnets the only way to effect the magnets strength is through the curie point
