Okay children, let's play nice now. Lots of people consider Evanescence goth, and lots of people don't. From what I've read their genre is considered: Rock/Pop, Post-Grunge, Alternative Metal, with gothic inspirations.  But you can call it whatever you want, it's a free country.

Point taken, but if you are talking about the ancient Goths, than I agree with you 100% that this style of music is not Goth. However, in the present day there is a style of dress and music that is typically considered 'goth', even if it has nothing, or extremely little, to do with the ancient Goths. Please be a little more specific as to who you are referring to, as now days 'Goth' can mean more than one thing.

I am referring to the music genre which is a satire of the literature and directly akin to the post punk music and being defined by a deft hate of post-modernism which is the undertones of the literature.The true movement have no true relation to the ethnicity Goth save by the name itself and that was chosen satirically.

Goth is a term that classifies something. As a person or culture, I or we can choose to classify anything we want as Goth or Gothic. Also my friend would disagree about joy-division being goth, I think he says its industrial-metal, maybe avante-garde.
