@Trulyloyale I understand that you're passionate and you're passing on information, but I don't think a lot of people understand the supposed conspiracy with the doping. I mean, when I fenced with Cassaras, only then did I realize that the level of competition was so great between the leading world fencers to have the honor of presenting Italy, that there could possibly be a conspiracy. It's completely idiotic to think Baldini doped.

is that someone tampered with the energy drink bottle Baldini took from : he was predicted gold medal at Olympics and he was in a fantastic shape that summer and such internal affairs or tricks or conspiracies have always been on Olympics , even more in such sports as Track & Field or swim .....

I was trained basic fencing in Italy, so I do have any idea of the subject xenadon , I'm not sure of the same about you .....( checking which country you're from , USA , which explains why of your lack of knowledge about fencing sport ) .

In 2009 Andrea Baldini has made his Great Slam : European Champion ,

World Champ and World Cup winner .

I think that says enough of his class .....

Ps : these year Andrea Baldini has been completely cleared of all accusation being readmitted to competitions and , I would say, he has been cleared of all the shamefull intentional lies coming from doping involved outer countries ( better cheating countries ). The FIE antidoping tribunal recognized his honesty and fairness .

out of 3 : Turin 2006 & St Petersburg 07

in the gold final and Havana 08 in a World Cup match .

Baldini has beaten Joppich in the Plovdiv European Championships' final for gold on July 09 .

On oct 3rd 2009 Andrea Baldini has won the gold in the World Championships in Antalya and his 3rd World Cup in a row

( 2007, 09 , 09 ) .

That bizarre doping case , in which Baldini got involved in Kiev just few days before Bejing 08 , is a very strange & unreal one ( 1st case of doping ever in fencing history ) : he was among 2/3 predicted gold winners l & the 2nd test of his blood resulted 100% negative at any doping substance .

Since that day Italian fencers on the roadcheck very carefully what they drink and they don't drink water from not undamaged bottles

to prevent any further sabotage by outer national teams .

Just to tell true facts how they effectively are and to sweep out some rubbish I've seen posted in a short, ridiculous prev. comment . dlike everybody fond of this sport knows so well, doping in fencing doesn't exist for the simple reason that it doesn't help IN ANY WAY to improve any fencing skill .

Doping in fencing is not only useless but also meaningless 'cos it makes the particular fencing skills worse and so it gets to underperform the resul and not the opposite .

I fence foil primarily but I've fenced the other two weapons and they require just as much skill.

right ! I started to be taught with my fencing training when I was 6 : since fencing was created neither epee nor even lesser sabre have never reached even 50% of the amazing technic skills required by Foil.

Foil has no comparison with other 2 weapons as for tech skills : it's pure fencing at its best .

That's holy truth and it can't be changed by one-way bizarre personal opinions .

@Trulyloyale Would you mind elaborating on how you read "technical" because in Fencing that is an enormously broad term. Are you talking pure blade-work, footwork, application of timing/distance. I would argue that all three weapons are now finely focussed on different aspects of technique.

@Voiv you're right , in fencing its an enormously broad term : fencing is made of

all abilities you named ( possibly at highest rate in a fencer, which in fencing is as rare as a diamond, V. Vezzali f.i. can be rightly considered the emblem of perfect fencer 'cos she does all those things in a fantastic way ) but the 3 weapons require different levels of pure blade-work and application of timin/distance ( obviously upon the basic continuous footwork ) .

That because of the different valid targets of the 3 weapons : sabre is more a physical weapon, the assaults are unbelievably fast , you need to be explosive rather than skilled about blade-work to succeed in this weapon, that's why the sabristes have more muscled bodies compared to other fencers .

Different levels of fencing abilities & required skills : beyond the fact that a medal is always a medal , in fencing world Foil is reputed the most prestigious and difficult weapon, epee beside

@Trulyloyale I agree in part, but I don't think I reach some of the same conclusions as you. The point I was trying to make is about your claim of Foil being the most technically superior. I'm a Foilist recently turned Sabreur and I find some of the technical aspects of Sabre MUCH more difficult then in Foil. For example my footwork, which was always one of my biggest weapons in Foil is only considered average for a Sabreur.

And Foil being the most difficult technically & the most prestigious weapon is not a claim of mine , its nothing less than a holy truth in Fencing , not my fault if that doesn't suit your wiills or those of people from countries with lesser traditions

in this sport : that's 100% and it can be denied by nobody .

And beyond any personal turning from Sabre to Foil ( everyone has his different tastes and sporting skills ) I think you're the one in the world

who finds more difficult technical specs ( or " aspects as you called them ) in Sabre since in this last one they are almost overwhelmed by those specific physical abilities I've already told you about !

And at last footwork is basic for any fencer, no matter what weapon he competes in : its like the wheels of a byke a cyclists run by . This said , this last point just enforces what I said : in sabre footwork along with other pure fence skills got submitted to speed & force of attack
