The problem isn't the systems, it's the developers. Question, do you think that the ps3 is maxed out? The Blue-ray is not even maxed out yet, and you can blame x-box for that. Because the developers are to lazy. I think xbox needs to make a new system, but as far as ps3, they just need to start maxing out the Blue-ray and we will see the difference in the product.

Graphics are good and all. But I care more about the quality of the gameplay. What the games about and how it feels. I always love going back to older games. Even if the graphics look terrible. I get into the game and forget its like a PS1 game or something. You know?
I think Call of Duty is a big reason why we haven't moved to next big thing. It keeps making money with barely, if any, improvements. It's by far the best selling piece of entertainment all across the board. I would say developers have gotten stale. You have one blockbuster game and everyone copies it (gta,halo,mw3). Perhaps the techonolgy can't be stretched more but you can't tell me the creativity can't be.
I think there is probably 1 or 2 games left in this genaration. Most of the great games for the older consele were right at the end of the "life". Other than the 1 or 2 sleepers this generation is pretty much done.
The only difference from then and now is back then it was an ass of consoles out there and now its just Ps, xbox and nintendo.
If you play attention, it was still that 4-6yr gap between each brand console. Look at the yrs between Nes, Snes, N-64 and gamecube, or the gap between sega, sega genesis and dreamcast or ps1, ps2 and Ps3. All of those consoles always release around the same the competitors releases their new console which was always 4-6yrs after the previous make.

You echo my exact thoughts. It is the exact reason I dropped a few grand on my first PC build a few weeks ago. There is no looking back now. I am loving dedicated servers, true 1080p at 60+ frames per second. I still love consoles, but they need to step it up this next generation.

Im looking into building a gaming PC so in the meantime(also waiting to see how WiiU turns out) I will have something new to delve into. But as mainly a PS3 and Wii(dont laugh lol) Im doing good with the steady stream of unique experience between those two platforms. Also looking into the Vita which is new ground for me as well. All considering I should be straight till PSQuad and VeXbox.
These consoles just became profitable in 2010 onward. It cost too fucking much to upgrade to newer tech especially when they are still selling well and just hitting their stride. It's a new era in gaming. Shit cost too much(on the console side) and in this recession it aint gonna work. Sony and MS could release a new system this year to compete with Big N next year but if they didn't sell Wii-like numbers it would cripple them. So either go to PC, wait, or watch the big 2 go bankrupt lol

This is exactly why i upgraded my PC it's satisfying my gaming enthusiast needs, there's a few PS3 exclusives i got my eyes on but aside from that the PC brings some major freshness to an already stale generation. For example replaying the Assassin's Creed games maxed out in true 1080p at 120fps in NVIDIA 3D Vision is like a whole new experience.
A new company need to create a new system or xbox and ps3 should work together to make an ultimate system. it would make so much money and that will last for a while

I can't cosign this. A longer life cycle is a good thing. We still have good to great games coming out, and developers are still finding ways to get more out of the systems. I'm actually a bit worried that we're seeing the end of "Hardcore Gaming" as we know it. M$ has been moving towards pure casual gaming for awhile, and I'm hoping Sony doesn't follow that lead.

Its about technology...they are trying to push the consoles to their max potential, and the content out there is not about graphics, its about peripherals, attachments, motion, streaming content, etc...so once that gets stale, then they will start the push of new consoles...
You have to look at the financial aspect of bringing out a new console, in a time where economies worldwide are going to shit, take Greece for example, now is not the best time to be putting out a $500 console with probably $65 games and $15 DLC out the wazoo, I don't know about you but my pockets will have a tough time handling that.

I am NOT wanting the next generation anytime soon. I think the fact that these current gen consoles have longevity is a good thing. I'm not looking forward to shell out a bunch of money for a new system which will probably have a poor launch and a bunch of money for games that will also cost more because of the upgrade. I thought 2011 was a stronger year for gaming than 2010 that I felt bu partly also had to tell myself "just go with it" but still I feel unsatisfied. I am lingering with the fact that something could be done with the consoles as they introduced new things but most companies are afraid of losing so much money coming up with ideas games for these new innovations. I feel the same way. I'm on 360 and I felt that I was losing my interest in gaming because there wasn't anything new that was coming out. Now when battlefield 3 mw3 and skyrim all game out I felt like this is cool new stuff for me to play. But now it's like I'm bored with everything and I need something new to entertain me.
I think the reason they haven't started to make a new console is because the online play. If old consoles SNES, Sega, etc.. Maybe they would of lasted longer, I know the XBOX and PS2 had online play, but they did not have features like a Dashboard apps to watch movies and to buy downloadable games. I think that they will just keep updating them just to make them better and to last longer. I think that's one of the reasons they are still going.
I think that they need to some out with something new but what more can they do with these systems except make the graphics seem more realistic and bigger playing areas. I think i saw on SpawnTrapPodcast, they showed an article about how they think that the next consoles wont be a big improvement in graphics.

Sony has always followed a six year life cycle. The original ps in '94, ps2 in '00, and the ps3 in '06. So, yes you're right, it's time for the next gen consoles.

DUST514, FPS, Planetary Conquest, Huge customization, 20-30$ releases in the spring, and 32v32 at the moment but could be increased, and full clan support.

I think consoles came out faster back in the day cuz there was more competition. Sega, Panasonic, NEC and Coleco gave up, everybody else that released hardware failed horribly, Nintendo is targeting a different audience all together and arcades are pretty much dead. So now there are two hardware developers that have the gaming industry on smash and most people probably already know which next gen console they're gonna get so Sony and Microsoft have no reason to be in a hurry.
We don't need better consoles, We just need better innovative and good games. Other than shitty sequels. Don't get me wrong, some sequels were priddy badass, but it's time to stop making sequels and start making new games, and polished ones.

Im looking into building a gaming PC so in the meantime(also waiting to see how WiiU turns out) I will have something new to delve into. But as mainly a PS3 and Wii(dont laugh lol) Im doing good with the steady stream of unique experience between those two platforms. Also looking into the Vita which is new ground for me as well. All considering I should be straight till PSQuad and VeXbox.

These consoles just became profitable in 2010 onward. It cost too fucking much to upgrade to newer tech especially when they are still selling well and just hitting their stride. It's a new era in gaming. Shit cost too much(on the console side) and in this recession it aint gonna work. Sony and MS could release a new system this year to compete with Big N next year but if they didn't sell Wii-like numbers it would cripple them. So either go to PC, wait, or watch the big 2 go bankrupt lol

This is exactly why i upgraded my PC it's satisfying my gaming enthusiast needs, there's a few PS3 exclusives i got my eyes on but aside from that the PC brings some major freshness to an already stale generation. For example replaying the Assassin's Creed games maxed out in true 1080p at 120fps in NVIDIA 3D Vision is like a whole new experience.

I can't cosign this. A longer life cycle is a good thing. We still have good to great games coming out, and developers are still finding ways to get more out of the systems. I'm actually a bit worried that we're seeing the end of "Hardcore Gaming" as we know it. M$ has been moving towards pure casual gaming for awhile, and I'm hoping Sony doesn't follow that lead.
I have a feeling that the reason for the long life cycle is they haven't figured out how to make money on the new systems. (cont.)

I guess when the competition is limited to mainly Sony and Microsoft for the gaming consoles they are milking the old hardware for all that they can get. You have to look at the financial aspect of bringing out a new console, in a time where economies worldwide are going to shit, take Greece for example, now is not the best time to be putting out a $500 console with probably $65 games and $15 DLC out the wazoo, I don't know about you but my pockets will have a tough time handling that.

I am NOT wanting the next generation anytime soon. I think the fact that these current gen consoles have longevity is a good thing. I'm not looking forward to shell out a bunch of money for a new system which will probably have a poor launch and a bunch of money for games that will also cost more because of the upgrade. There are a bunch of games still coming out for this generation.

I think the reason they haven't started to make a new console is because the online play. If old consoles SNES, Sega, etc.. Maybe they would of lasted longer, I know the XBOX and PS2 had online play, but they did not have features like a Dashboard apps to watch movies and to buy downloadable games. I think that they will just keep updating them just to make them better and to last longer. I think that's one of the reasons they are still going.

Sony has always followed a six year life cycle. The original ps in '94, ps2 in '00, and the ps3 in '06. So, yes you're right, it's time for the next gen consoles.

The gaming industry from a creative side is stuck in a rut. Its still going to be a ton of FPS, third person platformers/shooters and fighting games. I think consoles came out faster back in the day cuz there was more competition. Sega, Panasonic, NEC and Coleco gave up, everybody else that released hardware failed horribly, Nintendo is targeting a different audience all together and arcades are pretty much dead. So now there are two hardware developers that have the gaming industry on smash and most people probably already know which next gen console they're gonna get so Sony and Microsoft have no reason to be in a hurry.
