Don't get me wrong, I was once an adamant fan of them, saw 'em twice in Australia (2007, most recently) and will see em when they play here in a few weeks. metallica is mostly only regocnized as the only one of the big four to change their sound because they were the biggest known, slayer hardly changed their sound at all, megadeth stayed metal but it was more just regular heavy metal, and hardly anyone knows anthrax compared to slayer metallica nad megadeth, even though anthrax were probarley the most changed band lol, so it just boils down to most known of the four bands which happens to be metallica.

Metallicathrashsam, any decent respectable artist explores the realms of music, they don't just stick to one style of music their whole careers. I seriously hate some of these metal-head idiots who only listen to thrash and expect bands like Metallica to produce Master of Puppets again and again throughout their whole career. Structurally, the songs are pop songs. Lyrically, the songs lack the depth and substance of those that were on the albums that got us into these bands in the first place. I would have to agree with your brother that Slayer is actually getting closer in touch with their old material, but this is a "B+" effort at best, and that is being quite optimistic. Their glory days are gone. Their best has been put down. I don't see the value in talking about the other mentioned bands, there is no hope.
