  • Une chanson magnifique

    Merci Mr Brel

  • Thanks for the share dom, very beautiful.

  • Thx to share it with english subtitles.. I just want to send it to many english spoken YT friends to let them know a bit about Brel

  • @SirCaptainSpry 'went' not 'want' Ooops

  • @SirCaptainSpry

    I know Brel , im Belgian =D

BUT i thought all vids of J Brel were blocked in France

  • @SirCaptainSpry

C beau mais c pas très gai

  • @inevergiveup1402 Oui mais c'est beau.. :o)

  • @SirCaptainSpry

Oui mais c pas gai =D

    enfin merki =D

  • @SirCaptainSpry

Moi j'aime mieux sa chanson sur les flamingants , tu la connais ?

  • @inevergiveup1402

Only the French can have that robust lyrical dramatic talent

  • @PanakaStigLitz And the Belgians, as we can see here...

  • there will never be another brel

  • @callseba You are so right. Just sublime.

  • "le verbe d'antan" =/= old bibles

"le verbe d'antan" ~= the old times' language.

  • "Their pianos are closed."

  • He paints a very bad picture of old age. Perhaps that's why he died so young. (49)

  • @johnfm1061 He is just painting a reality, look around you... look at your granjd-parents.....

  • @johnfm1061 that's real life for old people

  • La vache ! en vidéo c'est pire qu'en cd !

  • Brel never ceases to amaze me as both writer and performer. The song and performance are devastatingly beautiful.

  • This song overcomes my racism... It is awesome :)

  • @deathtorocks racism against..?

  • siempre lloro con este hombre

  • An improved and corrected video of Les Vieux with French and English subtitles has

  • @philipchek

Thanks, for the done work! Ок, I will by all means give the reference to you.

  • Translation and subtitling by VNrose3. Please address comments to my account as I like to hear from people. Somehow it is not fair that I do the work and others get the thanks and feedhback, but I am not about to complain to YouTube of copyright infringement.

  • @VNRose3

To tell you the truth, the translation is pretty bad at times...

  • @MilkCheikh That's exactly why I need the feedback-- so I can correct and improve it. Why not take down my translation and post your own? It's my work and I'm attached to it. I hope to post another improved version when I get a chance.

  • @VNRose3 Ok, there you go:

"le verbe d'antan" means something like old fashion language, not bible.

"leurs livres s'ensommeillent" means that the books themselves are sleepy

"au soleil" = in the sun, sunshine is too strong i think

"et puis qui les attend" = and waits for them, not necessarily and THEN wait for them

"se retrouve en enfer" = finds himself in hell (not "again")

  • @MilkCheikh Thanks so much for the corrections. If the song were still in my account, I would correct using annotations. The account holder should do it. You are right that "verbe d'antan" means old language or words of yesteryear. Their books are falling asleep is odd, but that's what it says. Sun or sunshine is about the same to me. "Then" is the translation of "puis." You are right that "retrouve" need not be translated "again" but can be translated "now finds." I appreciate the help.

  • @VNRose3

"in rain" rather than "in the rain", because "en pluie" in french is a poetic way to put it. If he meant "in the rain", he would have said "sous la pluie"

(this is to make up for my first -rather agressive- comment)

  • @MilkCheikh I'll fix that too when I get a chance to post another translation. Thanks.

  • @VNRose3

It is your transfer? To give the reference to you? I simply don't know languages, except Russian. Forgive, for an incorrectness. As soon as I will receive from you acknowledgement I will give the corresponding reference. I have a little got confused because of language ignorance)

  • @Osenni There are mistakes that need correction. Don't worry, I will post another translation. If you can, use annotations and correct the mistakes as MilkCheikh advises.

  • @VNRose3

Forgive, the matter is that I translate each your comment through online of the translator and then about the Russian I translate to answer here)

Correct me if what not so:

I should put the reference to you, how on the author of subtitles to a roller? Correctly?

I should read not to correct subtitles as I do not know language. I can correct or add the reference only.

Tell as I should arrive. Thanks.

  • @Osenni We will correct the titles in another translation. You don't have to do anything.

  • depressing perhaps, but perfectly honest.

  • @patroklos33

Poli oreo tragoudi kai toso alithino....!

  • I feel like the power in Brel's work comes from his open-eyed rage at the human condition and his compassion for the frail souls that have to endure it. He endures that we may enjoy; .

  • @ColonelHarry

Old age threshold of death. Diseases of the visit and all with age chasche.Ochen and very sad to look like my parents, as they cease to be so strong and beautiful as in our childhood. The song - about the life and death, can not but be sad.

  • horrible filming job

  • C'est vrai! Chaque fois que j'ecoute cette chanson : Je pleure!

N'oblier pas: Le paradis se trouve aux pieds de nos Meres!
