I was at bed bath and so on and this girl was hesitating putting her hand through. very quickly I said dont it cuts and she pull her hand out so fast.
Dyson is a marketing genius but his approach is a bit cocky. I don't think that anyone in the last 120 years of conventional table fans ever had a complaint about the 'annoying buffeting' that is referred to in Dyson's TV commercial. Traditional fans have kept people cool for a long time and they will continue to sell because they work and they are affordable. I suspect that buyers of the Dyson product are the same folk who will camp out all night in front of an electronics retailer in order
@sibco96 Actually no, people who sleep with fans on them, or smoke near a fan (esp something in a pipe or bong), or people who have asthma often complain of the buffeting / choppy air. I have that issue and hate when I wake up with a sore throat.. something like this would cause the air to be less disturbing but smooth and gentle.
i'm amazed at how quickly ppl will criticise and write off something they could never ever dream up and make a reality. a bladeless fan - that's pretty damn brilliant.
Very impressive and I would definitely get this when it comes down in price. Call me old school but it would feel kinda weird at first using this thing since I've been so used to the ones with blades. lol
Yeah I am pretty impressed - its like its using laminar flow in the opposite way to how I have thought about it - using the surface layers to create the airflow. Some aircraft (including the old f4 phantom) use a similar process to increase the lift coefficient of wings at low airspeeds. I wonder if the effect could provide sufficient thrust to power cars/aircraft? I am sure someone has tried! No, a proper innovation I reckon - you are a bit of a legend Mr Dyson. A little noisy though?
mr. vintagehoover - please try something for me. Could you please throw a paperplane through the hole of this fan? It would be like those acceleration things in videgames. Thank you in advance.
Well since its not quieter than a conventional fan its not really that innovative to me. If it was virtually silent in operation using noise cancelling technology then that would amazing.
Distortedvision, if this isn't innovative... then please tell me how it works, off the top of your head. And consider what is needed to distribute the air evenly around the ring and with enough force... and at a low enough noise level.
I think its too expensive. The idea is good but there are other units out there that blow out cold air within a concealed unit and at £199, Id rather buy an air conditioning unit.
If this was a LOT cheaper I would buy this.

I like the design a lot but that noiseflloor is not really something I'd like to hear in the living room.

@DocSommer It sounds a lot louder in the video than it does in reality.

I've got the same model featured here and it's not loud at all. Infact if you have it near your TV you can't hear it at all.

I'm kinda surprised they (he) didn't just have the top portion rotate. Perhaps it would have constricted the air movement from the base.
