I have to disagree. I like how he starts the piece, played very sensitively.....but it's way too fast in the climax and ruins it for me. Those harmonies are some of the most beautiful ever written and he takes it too fast to savor them and revel in them. Otherwise a very talented and competent artist.
I have a recording of ashkenazy playing this, and hit hits the climax at the 'Presto possible', which i think where it should land. Here, he pulls back at that moment, where I feel it needs to hit the hardest. He seemed to build before that a bit to much, making the climax arrive a bit too early for my taste.
I can't get over this piece. I played Rach's Humoresque and the g minor prelude today as a sort of "Half time show" for my school's drill team, and people told me that in the humoresque, it looks like someone hit "Fast-forward", but on the cadenza of this piece..... man, it just blows my mind to think of how much effort and time was put into making that so precise and clean and amazing. Ah well, I'll be there one day. ;)
If it were possible to play a piece by another composer perfectly, I'd say this guy did it! But, since it's NOT possible to do that, I have to say that Dmitri Levkovich came pretty damn close.
This is spectacular!

Holy ****. If anyone's seen the notes for 3:04 on, it's disgusting. 3:28 on is absolutely crazy at that speed... so many chords!

You don't think the tempo marking "Presto possible" had anything to do with that? I heard all the harmonies.

I agree - although he played it very well.

Still, bravo - very well played. I'm jealous :)
