Mac: go to /etc/” directory by going through “Go –> Go to Folder” from Finder.

Windows: go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\et­c\ and locate “hosts” file.

Open the "hosts" file with Text Editor. Delete "hosts.apple.com" and Save. This would do the trick and your iPhone/iPad/iPod can be restored!

Here's how to do the easy way if your on ios 5 on a iphone/ipad/ipod

1. Install itunes 10.3

2.Put your device into dfu mode

3. Start up itunes and click restore

Your device will now downgrade to 4.3.3 as this is the 'official' Current firmware at the moment, Job done.
