@ghettoqueue from my experience. only 10% percent of people will get offended (turn away, or block their face) so if you find 10 interesting looking people you will end up with 8 great shots. not a bad ratio.
@Exupery1976 hey, if lighting condition is consistent shoot manual mode, but if light changes all the time go with aperture priority and bump iso to 400 to avoid camera share at lower shutter speeds. When I started I had issue with motion blur. I used to get too excited (i still do ) and don't keep my arm and body steady and shot too fast. So even at 1/100/ sec i was getting blur so I try shooting 1/125 and above on the street.
I'm just starting out in photography, and among some things I'm still learning, there's something I don't understand about having to get everyone's permission to take their picture, especially in such a crowded event. I live in Utah, and simply walk around with my 200mm lens taking random shots of whatever event is going on. The zoom helps catch those natural candids. I figure that each area you are in works differently when it comes to getting permission before taking a photo of someone.
@spkenny02 That's cool, you are doing everything right. There are many approaches to street portraits. Candid vs. posed ... this tutorial was on asking strangers to pose and directing them... 200mm is fine .. but try shooting at 24 mm ... see if you like the results better.
Hi Sasha! I am using my Canon T3i to shoot music videos (my husband plays the Renaissance Lute and sings), but I want to incorporate still photos too. I am learning as much as I can about photography from the wealth of knowledge available on YouTube. Your videos are particular inspiring! Please view the video 'Go crystal tears' on my channel - but don't be too critical, I am just starting out!! I will stay tuned to you!!
@ny1fanta very, cool we are going to organize a photo walk soon , CI or RedHook or some place in the city, Sign up for newsletter at our site and stay tuned
When you ask, people will start posing and kind of ruin the moment.
Just take a shot and when they get offended, delete the picture.
Show respect, when they don't like it.
Use a prime lens (50mm or 85mm) and you get less attention then shooting with a big 70-200.
And when you start, start shooting at events like the ones in the video.
People will let you take a picture more easy.
(sorry if i got some words wrong)

@LearnMyShot if you take shots from people without asking permission, would they get offended, something like that, especially on city streets?

Do you know what? I really enjoyed watching the rest of the videos like you recommended. I can't spell your name so I will call you Mr BBB.
What would be amazing, and also get you hundreds of thousands of views would be a video on wedding photography!
Maybe not a live wedding, but just dress some people up in bridal and groom gear and show us how to best position the couple/individuals.
Also Mr BBB, do you have flikr? if so add me on, my name is 'vin dhir', your critique would be useful thanks!
