@cagao02 I think most people will agree, Pink Floyd (the recognizable part) is David Gilmour, Rick Wright, and Nick Mason.
Roger Waters (other than contributing lyrics, and some vocals) is a forgettable member of the band (i.e. Bassist), and with his attitude, it makes it that much easier to cut him out. He's the Yoko Ono of the Floyd.
I never, EVER used to pay any attention to lyrics or the warblings of lead vocalists ; they all just got in the way of the music. But then I listened to Waters lyrics; they have stopped me dead in my tracks on many occasions. He is a genius with words and has the insight to really get to the core of what's troubling him.Floyd is a lesser band for Waters no longer being in it.
Absolutely true! The division bell was NOT a good album and the words were not clever or inspiring! The Floyd were 4 guys and not 3! However the music will always live on!
Ok,Roger's words has been important, for some songs in concept albums...but WITHOUT DAVID'S GUITARS AND RICK'S KEYBOARDS,PINK FLOYD ARE NOTHING!!!...rest in pease,Richard, wonderful angel of psichedelic rock.
I like how they played this song exactly just like the album. And not updated it like other stupid bands do with their music. Most bands should learn a lesson from Pink Floyd. Play songs live exactly the way they were recorded.
thanks for the upload, but come on pompeii has no digital age wizardry and beats the hell out of the guitar on this!!! _sigh_ :-) still very good tho!
Mixed thoughts on your post Cheese - Hey its still Gilmour....!! I do like the "rawness" of the whole Pompeii experience though - so fitting in with the "spirit of the age" - was life so simple then?
I love to see how David look at Rick and smling with their jam part.... amazing moment for Rick, what a long way of partnership and friendship between these two guys.
I've seen Roger Waters three times, and though I would like to see David Gilmour, if the choice came between seeing Roger Waters again or seeing Gilmour, I would go with Waters. If there was no 'this or that' though I would go see Gilmour in a heartbeat.
Makes me smile and sad at the same time to see Rick having such a great time playing even after all the years it wa still fun for him to play. Rest in God's Arms Rick.
I feel the same way as you, well he at least got to do what he loved the most,,,his music. BTW, this performance of Echoes ranks right up there with Pompeii in MHO..Great performance.
And if you want to hear them really rock it out harder, listen to Pink Floyd The Nile Song, very Sabbath. But myself, I always liked the spacey blues sounds of this era of Floyd.
Ya can't go wrong with Floyd, no matter which CD ya listen to, although I've never listened too deep into "Atom Heart Mother". It makes me wonder about it if David and Roger both state that it was the worst, most embarrassing effort they've ever done. I'll hafta listen more.
They did feel that way if I'm not mistaken, however I see it's being played again. Atom heart Mother seemed to become more popular as of late. Echoes however is a work of art.
trust me on this one ok? i really think AHM is a wonderfull pre album to the meddle ablum. i hated this album the first time as a kid listening to it in the early 80's. my god this album grew on me. u have to listen to it a couple of times. i wish i knew why roger didnt like it. all of the album, different in ways, is truely a pink floyd album!
I agree. What perplexes most people is that when they hear each member's view on each Floyd album, it's mixed: some liked it, some didn't. It seems there's not a single Floyd album which all four liked. I think this largely comes from each one's criticisms of their own techniques as well as the fact that there was always some infighting going on between Waters and Gilmour, while Wright was pretty much the catch-all for the shit and just did his job. Mason seems more even-keeled about it all.
I listened to AHM a LOT in the early 1970s. When I look back on it now, I just have to say that it was still PF in the course of finding their groove, which they did through a lot of experimentation.
Gilmour's solo preformances are so much better than the New Pink Floyd performances.Wish he'd come to my town. But it'd probably wouldn't be the same without Rick Wright.
Of course it doesn't, it wasn't meant to better it. I don't think David intentionally goes out there and tries to one-up anything he did with Pink Floyd.
This is just meant to be another interpretation, another version if you will. And it's not just good, it's damn good.
Echoes is a religious experience. Just watching David play that guitar and make it scream, squeal and shout like it's possessed by some demonic force is the definition of otherworldly.
You can't watch this or listen to this song and tell me that's not the equivalent of seeing God.
after watching the original at pompeii and then this video is there any guitarist in history who improves with age as much as Mr. Gilmour.A true fine wine
Yeah the Pompeii version is probably one of my favorite recordings of the song, but this is incredible how almost 40 years later it still sounds just as good.
This is my favorite song of all time.. this is soo much a piece of art... musical art.. I simply love it soo much.. Shine on is my nr. 2.. but of all songs in the world this is the song that blows me away the most... Never will I forget lying stoned as fuck in bed with a headset on and full darkness just tripping away on echoes.. that is the pinnacle of my youth.. I'll allway look back at this.
25 minute orgasm? During Shine On You Crazy Diamond. This is my second favorite Floyd song...and, once, actually edged out Shine On. And look at Rick and David - they rule, and by God, they know it.
Go Richard Wright!!! you are my faveriote keyboardist and always you will be!!! richard lives on in song!!! i can hear those keys..especially in pigs three different ones sooo hip and most def. in great gig. and shine on...and of course echoes rick was hot in paint box video wasent he oh rick ill see you on the dark side of the moon mate
Un sincero y muy sentido adiós al maestro Richard Wright, por su sensible fallecimiento. Ni modo, con su muerte, nos quedamos con las ganas de ver al Pink Floyd original de vuelta por todo el mundo, incluído nuestro país Mexico.

True, a great sadness. The loss of a pioneer in the British Rock Invasion!!! What a legacy though, and we can watch him whenever we want. I can't wait to see what kind of tribute the industry does? Who plays keyboard? Who still plays? Lubowitz? Lord? Wakeman? Emmerson? Banks?
Repent you vile and repugnant soul so that the Almighty David Gilmour does not forget you when your time comes
There is no god. But there is David Gilmour.
What more proof do you need. Compare a Bible to any music by Gilmour and suddenly . . . suddenly it all becomes quite CLEAR.
Godspeed to you indeed. May the peace, the love, and the epic muscianship of David Gilmour, the One, the Almighty, and the Ever Wonderful never forget you.
As I understand it Gilmour slew God and thus became the Almighty and Universal Deity Himself.
