Ah yes - I loved THE PROFESSIONALS! I met up with them in NYC back in the day. They were holed up at the Iroquois Hotel. Young fellas having fun in NY. And they were such great rockers.
saw the professionals at the ritz on june 9 1982. still have the stub. great show. if you like the professionals check out the movie "ladies and gentlemen the fabulous stains" starring diane lane.
I always knew of The Professionals, but it wasn't until this year when I came across this video. These small clips allow made me an instead fan and it caused me to go out and get both of their CDs. They were a great live band, and it's too bad that lack of activity, Steve Jones and Paul Meyers's drug addictions, and a car crash which prevented them from promoting the I Didn't See It Coming album kept them from reaching the same level of acclaim the Sex Pistols had.
Oh this brings back memories. I saw them live in Boston 2x and once in Providence. Hung out with them and they were really nice (and funny!). This must be the same tour cuz I saw them this same year. :-)
That's some good vocals. Not that they sound bad on the studio versions, but Jones sang them great live too. Much better than his solo glam metal stuff.
I was also at this Ritz show where Jonesy uttered the memorable question between songs' Do any birds out there wanna suck me knob?? Priceless and my main memory of the show 27 years later...they song awesome on this clip
No, Steve and Paul and John and Glen were the Pistols. They were all great and all did great stuff on their own too. But Steve and Paul rock like nobody's business.
Damn I wish I had been born sooner so I could have seen them in their primes.
I saw this show. If its the same year (82'?) they also played the Peppermint Lounge. I met Cookie and Steve the night before this show - they were scoping out the venue. Then met up with them at the Mudd Club. Those were the days!
Ok I was born too late to enjoy this sort of thing but what I want to know is with music like this out there in the early 80's why the 80's sucked so much? Tears for fears, that song about spin me right round? Come on fellas! I still hear stupid songs like that on commercial radio.
sorry this is a late comment....but the 80's music was the best. punk rock was alive and well my young friend. check the minute men bad religion black flag bad brains on and on and on....
Terrific to see this. I think the Professonals were great and aren't brought up enough. Great guitar tone as usual, even with the poor quality. I'm sure we would all love to see more if you have it.
I was always curious as to why having recorded "Silly Thing" and other tunes as a duo under "The Sex Pistols" name why "The Professionals" didn't play under that name as well....can you ask your dad for me ?
Beacause McLaren still owned the name Sex Pistols (all the publishing, copyright, management etc.) ,until Cook,Jones,Matlock,Lydon and Sids mum won the name back, so to speak ,in court in 1986.The reason he owned the name was because of the management contract they all signed in 1976, without reading it, which more or less gave McLaren carte blanche.
Thankyou. Yes I thought it might be that...Mcclaren and the legal battle.
I have taken up playing bass (I now own FOUR!) after 25 years of playing drums. Despite myself I find my stance taking on shades of Sid Vicious ! I can play better than him... though that's not saying much...
