  • maintaining a smile is hard, but my props go to the guy holding a loogie for 8+ minutes right over his head

  • thank you! XD n_n

  • but you need more muscle to not smile !

  • @OrangeLeaders Definitely!

  • rofl..i look at this guys face and i smile hahah and i took a pic and it looks natural because its funny

  • Hey, y'know...any way I can help!

    Thanks for watching!

  • My picture smile used to make me look like an idiot, this helped alot.

  • Thanks so much! Most people don't like their 'camera smile' because it's so self-conscious. I think the trick is to relax and think of something funny or happy and try to forget about the camera. Easier said than done, I know!

    Thanks for watching!

  • thank you for doing this video.. a really great help

  • Thank YOU! And thanks for watching.

  • No offense, but declaring others as being "negative" IS negative.

  • That's certainly one way of looking at it.

    Thanks for sharing and watching.

  • that makes no sense dude

  • Looking at someone only for their cons is negative.

  • Great homely wisdom - I really appreciate your down-to -earth and friendly manner.

I will give your suggestions a go :)

  • Thanks so much! And thanks for watching!

  • thanks! this is very helpful!!u have given me lots of useful tips i can use in my life thanks a million!

  • Thank YOU!

Glad I might be able to help in some way.

  • i really appreciate you matt! thanks so much for spreading the smile! it's so good to hear you speak, and also to watch. you have a pleasant expression and that is sometimes hard to do while talking! good job!

  • great video, thanks! i've recently begun to consciously smile. the zygomaticus muscles (from the cheekbone to the corners of the mouth) are just part of the smile-the orbicularis occuli (eye muscles) are a major part of smile anatomy. when all the smile muscles are used your whole body smiles. check this article online: Emotional Self Regulation and Facial Expression Muscle Measurement and Training (Rob Kall). it is great!.

  • Thanks for the tip...glad you enjoyed this and thanks for watching! I've always thought a good smile should start at your toes and work its way up!

  • GREAT VIDEO!

I have to thank you sooooo muuucchhh!!!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

You changed my life. i thought i was the only one whos cheeks hurt when smiling.

the day after i saw you video, i worked until 3am and i wasnt stressed out.

things have been different since seeing your video. people are friendlier, people want to be around me, less white women grab their bag on the subway(im black). u rock

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow, that's the nicest thing I could possibly hear! I don't think I have any particular insights...I only know what's worked for me. It's not fake...it's just a habit most of us haven't worked much on so it's hard at first.

I'm SO glad you got something out of it!

    All the best,

    Matt

  • I really like this video! I've always disliked my fake smile, and I am a happy person, so this has really helped me show others that I am!

My smile looks so much more genuine. Thank you!

  • Thank YOU so much for your kind words!

  • Please die :)

  • Eventually I'm sure.

    Thanks for watching. :-)

  • Well played, good form.

  • Well, I try!

Not always hard enough I admit...but I try!

    Thanks!

  • I meant in response to the hater comment, but it applies to the vid as well.

  • Wow Thank U very much. ^-^

and you have nice smile *^.^*

Can I use your video? (My report)

  • Thank you so much! A lot of people mistakenly expect this to be a 'beauty tips' type thing (despite my face being in the thumbnail!) when really I'm talking more about what you can do to try to hold a sincere smile on your face...at least MOST of the time!

And I certainly don't mind if you use my video for academic purposes at all!

    Thanks, Matt

  • Oh really? Thank you very much, again.!

    You are so kind.~

  • nice vid congrats

  • Thanks BOUred! I hope you aren't bothered by the fact that I apparently don't smile in this video...I don't agree with that assessment, but it's been said! But what can ya do but keep on smilin'?! Thanks again! M

  • Is anyone else bothered by the fact that he doesn't smile at all during his spiel?

  • Thank you for this video. I really need help to smile. I know I don't smile a lot. I just started today working at the front desk and I know I need to get a new habit of smiling a lot. Please help me. Thanks for this video.

  • Well, try a few of the things I talk about in the video...some or all of them! They work for me!

    Matt

  • Stop trying to make me smile..It aint going to work..

  • Be careful...it's gonna sneak up on you when you LEAST expect it! It will it WILL IT WILL!!! :-)))))

  • You do have a great smile! :) And thanks for the info!

  • Well thank you...and THANK YOU! ;-)

  • Smiling is important.. nice video.. and yes, it made me smile!! :)

  • Great vlog...yep, ya don't want one of those fake beauty queen smiles. Great advice!

  • Hmmm, I don't know...Well OK, I guess you're right! ;-)

    Thanks,

    Matt

  • Great vlog Matt!

  • Thanks! It works for me!

  • When you get to a point that your trials in themselves make you smile, NOT because they aren't bad or because you've come away from them, but because they've helped to make you the strong person that those trials thought they could break, then you're REALLY getting somewhere.

    I suspect you're mostly there.

    Keep up the good smiles!

    Matt

  • what a great video. what brought it on? when i smile people ask what's so funny, when i'm not smiling, they ask what's wrong. go figure.

  • Nothing in particular 'brought it on' other than a few people saying I had an 'infectious smile' and my thinking of where it might come from. Best I could do...

And though the warning to steer clear of negative people might serve a person well on YouTube this video had nothing to do with that!

As far as I'm concerned the silliest thing to do in response to YT silliness is to make a video about it!

    I'd rather just...SING!!!

    Thanks, Matt

  • Oh Really? Hummmm? ha,ha:) Jane

  • Good Video Matt!!! You're a good person.

  • Well, I TRY to be. Basically, I HAVE to believe that we ALL are.

    Thanks, Matt

  • hard to smile while your heart is broken

  • Yes it is. BELIEVE me it IS. But what better time to practice smiling...NOT smiling to be fake, but working on FINDING your REAL smile again. The more natural it is to you to begin with the sooner it'll come back. Your smile is like a beloved pet who likes to run away sometimes. It's not gonna quit running away, but if you build a warm home for it it'll always come back eventually.

    Love, Matt

  • I've done this a number of times. Consciously smiled slightly as I go around, and it invariably has an impact on how people act to me.

  • The key is to work on it until it becomes unconscious. NOT fake, just automatic. It sounds like putting the cart before the proverbial horse, but there are SO many ways in which smiling can improve your life...and attracting positive people to you and repelling negative ones is just the icing on the cake!

    M

  • I like your comments on staying away from negative people as much as possible. A lot of good info. (I guess you didn't watch my "Never gonna Stop" video LOL)

  • I'm a reprehensible slouch when it comes to watching videos lately. Partly from the fact that I'm addicted to smiling as much as I can. And I was NOT trying to say anything about Me-Tube in this video!

Your videos never fail to give me reasons to smile and I'm sorry if I've fallen behind because yours are ALWAYS fun and worth watching, even when they weren't meant to be funny!

Thank you Marc, and my apologies!

    Matt

  • LOL, well...I wasn't asking you to watch (although I have missed your comments). I know it gets harder and harder as one's subscriptions grow. I only mentioned that video because it's about me smiling all the time.

  • I don't mean to sound harsh, but a fair few of the subscriptions I currently have are going away soon simply because I'm tired of people who don't make me smile. Maybe that's not YT-politically correct to say, but all I've ever wanted to do in my videos is make people laugh, smile or think, so I expect nothing less of others...unless they're teenagers dancing in their underwear which is ENTIRELY different! ;-) Just kidding...sorta-kinda!

  • I only understand if you DON'T make ME go away!

  • No chance of THAT! You didn't win the REAL TRUE OFFICIAL #1 Playboy lighter for NOTHING!

Just don't go dancing in your underwear on camera, OK?!

Not that I haven't done it myself, but spare yourself the trauma!

No matter WHAT you ever do on YT it's gonna be THAT one that they feature as soon as you decide to run for a vacant seat in the State House! ;-)

    Best,

    Matt

  • yep just smiling at some who is lookin sad it makes them feel better.

  • You got THAT right! Ooh, is that the use of a smile as an 'offensive weapon'? There might be a future video in THAT!

    Thanks, Matt!

  • 5 Big SMILES for YOU :) :) :) :) :)

  • I just need ONE myself, but I appreciate them ALL!

    Thanks!

    Matt

  • Nothing wrong with a couple extra ;) You're worth it :)

  • I will concentrate on this video when I need to smile (ha,ha) how is that:)LOL 5*****Jane

  • Whatever you need to get ya smiling!

But I'm sure you've got FAR better thoughts and memories to use for 'smile practice' at the grocery store than MY silly video!

    Thanks Jane!

    Matt

  • No, I think this will do it (ha,ha) I actually do smile a lot:) Just in case you thought I didn't smile or something.:)

  • Well, practicing 'tending' a nice smile...because it IS like keeping a campfire going...will help you to smile even when you're nervous or concentrating, which ALWAYS drives the smile away from most people.

Granted, it might FEEL fake at first, but after a while it just comes natural because it's the way you ARE naturally!

  • Well I don't want to go around looking like I have had a lobotomy, or that I have been re-born or something, but I do feel smiling is important, and it makes you feel good inside. It is just knowing that happy medium..not to go too overboard:)
