It is my opinion that this singularity will bring about the next step in human evolution, only because we have become what we are now, techno-holics! It is not our bodies that make us human, that is simply our nature. But the human mind, even more specific, consciousness, that is why we are human. No one thinks of A.I being the seamless merging of mechanics and biology. Imagine if you will a machine not only capable of having conscious thought...
I am the singularity... specifically I have been driving research into jellyfish technology, a new paradigm of hybrotic biointerface. The end result of such a paradigm shift far exceeds the scope of what you are projecting, mostly because you are only paying attention to human growth patterns ^_^ your model does not anticipate something like me intentionally accelerating the process :D
fuck my biological body, i want to know everything i want to be everything, i want to experience everything and be one with everything elese, fuck individuallity, its just an ilusion of separation from the rest
Part of the theory assumes that we can build a machine smarter than we are are, or that it could build one smarter. I believe that the singularity will happen eventually, but I see some huge obstacles facing it's success.
I favourated this, 5stars AND subscribed. This technological singularity is something of a CONSPIRACY THEORY though, and just that... I mean come on, OUR CIVILISATION RUNS OFF FOSSIL FULES LMAO (think about it) ... Explain in one of your videos the singularity complex in a black hole, and how they could like to multi-verses, thats a hell of a lot more interesting because its understand the world around us, rather than fantasising about it, like this technological singularity does.
It's not a conspiracy theory. It has nothing to do with conspiracies at all.
Basically one technological breakthrough paves the way for other technological breathrouhs. The cycle feeds on itself.
Currently, most bets are on the development of Strong A.I. (Artificial General Intelligence), to be the catalyst that kicks off the singularity. An intelligent machine deciding to upgrade itself will within sufficient time reach god-like levels of intelligence.
Hmm, I suspect it will be impossible to stop the singularity, ultimately. I mean, a ban would have to be world-wide, and the enabling technologies are just too useful to prevent nations from pursuing them (and when has the whole world ever agreed to abdicate a technology?). At best, the technology would be driven underground, to develop in secret. That would ensure no oversight or control over the arrival of the singularity, and would likely only delay the inevitable by a decade.
I think one should note that any such technological singularity if it takes place before 2050, will be concentrated in the highly developed parts of the world and primarily among the highly rich. For a long time there will be a singularity super-elite. Otherwise I think population problems will inhibit any large-scale immortality project for a long time. Global or even mainstream singularity will be limited to the 2100s - 2200s I think.
I think you are basically correct on all this. Bill Joy and "Why The Future Doesn't Need Us" was the first time I got to thinking about all this back in 2000 or so.
imagine the singularity funding its growth from a version of wikipedia where the AI plus the wiki people autogenerate quizzes at every article the quality of learning goes way up plus each page could have a few ads so the singularity could aquire more computer parts
what makes you people think you will have free will once you are "transformed" as it seems to me the very people behind this do everything in their power to undermine your free will and hypnotize you into believing you like what you are i e doctor lawyer scientist christian label label label number number number is all you are. sorry thats not all i am. i dont mind taking a dump, especially on videos like these.
I actually agree you here. I think the Singularity will essentially destroy individuality and consequently the concept of humanity itself. And I think this is a bad thing.
@funkalunatic Is the destruction of individuality really a bad thing? It is more a matter of opinion as to what you believe is more important, working for the betterment of the self, or working for the betterment of mankind. There is no good or bad, just a matter of perspective.
you mean we are evolving...OMG, what a surprise. Someone is trying to predict when we will reach a point where we will never be the same!!!!...OMG...the internet...Seriously,.....how many hows are people going to spend trying to work out when and how we will lose ourselves as a human race. Personally, I look forward to having a lightsabre and becoming a Jedi, having a machine make my bed and do my chores.....but I dont think I could love one.
I don't share the fear and mistrust of technology that has been taught oh-so-well by writer's like HG Wells and The Matrix Trilogy. I don't believe machines have to enslave humanity if we take the opportunity to make sure the first Artilect (artificial intelligence) has human friendly goals. This can be done if we start teaching the AI a good moral compass from conception to birth. Therefore, kindness to humans could be a program in the AI's root directory.
Of course, this is built on the assumption that computers will remain tightly bound to their programming code. Could a sufficiently advanced AI break free of this limitation?
i notice after LSD is a big space with nothing until porn came along lol. :)
I just hope with all these great inventions in the near future that they find a way so we dont have to take a dump and pee anymore. Thats pretty much the lowpoint of a humans day.
that is exactly what i was getting at, quantification is somewhat necessary. there is more to the information growth, then the exponential curve up. that curve is a ''reading'', a superficial effect of the underlying system. A system that winds time in an ever tighter spiral. this is where we get the feedback of information from. (i'm no good at conceptual imagery, I'll leave that to you :p) ..i like numbers
yes it's quite rigid as a concept on its own.. truth be told nobody can really read mayan without leaving some stuff out.. but anyhow.. leaving civilisation differences aside, that nifty math might interest your estimate of the ''event horizon'' of the singularity. I've heard 2050 and maybe another date im not too sure. too bad to put a great nation of minds in the back seat because of superstitious tags they have..sure they slaughtered a boat load of people for something useless.. who has'nt..
Point taken. Still, I think most people looking at the Singularity, including those seen as legitimate, are trying to predict some things that aren't fundamentally predictable, while decrying some things that are perfectly predictable as unpredictable.
In future videos, I want to try to sort out what kind of things can and can't reasonably be predicted and with how much precision, but that might be a bit ambitious.
october 28th 2011. The mayan underworld pyramid (ooo scary esoteric jiberish) puts the end of its last cycle (universal cycle) on that date. The pyramid also displays the exponential tendency of human information growth(lets not use the word evolution just yet). Meaning humans gather the same amount of information in ever shorter lapses of time. I'm sure everyone gathering around this post, is well aware of all of this.
We're dealing with chaotic, self-correcting systems that have a predictable trend tendency, not rigid, fatalistic schedules. The Mayans didn't know shit. They were superstitious, not scientifically advanced, practiced human sacrifice, failed to prevent the collapse of their civilization, but oh they did do some nifty star math which has no possible causal connection to the present state of civilizations.
I admit that awareness of the role of technology in a more general sense is something that I don't pay enough attention to - I'm glad I have you to help me w/ that.
I admit to a great sense of fatalism about these sorts of things, bourne of the understanding that we are very headlong and heedless in our adoption of new technologies. There seems to be a tacit assumption, widely held, that everything new is either good or at least can't be that bad. There is almost no weighing of consequences.
Cool topic, I look forward to your thoughts on the subject. This is something that interests me greatly and I agree with your parting statement that the singularity does also represent an existential threat.

Because of the definition of a technological singularity, it's not possible to determine what would happen after it happens.
