  • Forever legend. Thank you The Winstons.

  • Thank you Amen break. So many great genres produced from sampling this track/beat.

  • Royalties are nice, but the "Amen Break" will live on longer than any money, or any of us for that matter. That is true prosperity.

  • Listen to Sonic Youth - Bull in the Heather. Even punk songs sample it.

  • The best part is at 1:26, it's the most sampled drum ever! Thumbs up this post so that others know where to rewind back to.

  • wonder if they got there royalties?

  • @Gracchi They never got royalties, and never wanted any. Check the wikipedia article for the Amen Break.

  • @Gracchi 100% sure they ain't got nothing

  • beat of nature or something, just makes you move, gods own beat lol

  • 17 dubsteppers...

  • The Amen Break..mother of all breaks. Thank you mr. Coleman (r.i.p.)

  • 17 people dislike the fact that these guys helped make their dub step

  • @Flippyy1 skrillex made 17 accounts to dislike :D

  • i feel sooo happy

  • hell,1969 must have been fun fo sure

  • Most famous 6 second drum loop:

    1:27 - 1:33 (in this 'video')

In case you were wondering. Why nobody quote it by now?!! lsimhbiwfefmtalol!

  • THREE TIMES DOPE, Sampled this. No Wordz son. The Winstons changed my life. Thanks for posting.

  • Amen! In case you didn't know, WHOMP, here it is. It's like the DNA of entire genres of music. And, interestingly, you can hear how even this original is a remix of a gospel song. Wow, it's like listening to the history of modern Black music on both sides of the North Atlantic.

  • Amen.

  • Warning, If you listen to the Amen brother while under the influence of cannabis you might find yourself feeling a sudden rush of extreme fascination over 1 random routine made by 1 drummer forming billions of dnb,hip hop and jungle tracks, thousands being made everyday evolving over the past 40 years. Then you will try to imagine the alternative of other random samples from other tunes in other times being used and evolving in the same way and then your brain will totally hurt bro.

  • @ernis1100 haha. some serious thought just jumped into my mind. :-)

    natural selection! :-D

  • @ernis1100 Hahahaha

  • They sampled from someone else before being sampled over 600 times. Amen, Brother (1969) sampled Theme From Lillies of the Field (Amen) by The Impressions (1964) We're a Winner by The Impressions (1967)

  • @cnykee moot point.. pretty much everybody who sampled this song went for the drum break at 1:27 and not the melodies that they copied from the impressions.

  • @FJxJongno3ga

Wasn't really trying to say anything other than a lot of what we hear is recycled

  • look to the light and wake up in a double confession of batman lol. only having a laff lol.

  • Jungle from the 60's.

  • it sounds too damn familiar

  • Shit, something else. What a story. What a beat.

  • best song ever

without the fact that i've the drums before

    still good

  • I got curious about this song after reading an article on the Xmas edition of The Economist. And I say Amen! to "Amen, Brother".

  • @siphondlhovu This.

  • what a fucking asshole can dislike this??? they will go mental one day -_-

  • @SalDOWN Easy. Enjoy the music. Love of music is universal, not to all.

  • There's been recreations of the amen drum samples though. Some tracks with the amen break dont have the second bass drum hit between the 1st and 2nd beats and instead is a stronger ride or hi-hat. The drum sounds were recreated because i've tried to mimic that sound with the original amen and it doesnt sound the same.

  • fuc*ing fresh

  • The music at itself is great!

  • dope.

  • They must be swimming in royalties :P

  • @C46Productions They're not, unfortunately. That's the sad thing about it. They didn't get a penny.

  • @C46Productions Cracked?

  • Come on 13 people, why you disliking?

Did the Amen Break kill your parents?

  • @ItsSkaTV I made it 14 just out of spite, even though I like it, lol.

  • @ItsSkaTV Considering how many times this break has been played, I actually wouldn't be surprised if there's some people who associate it with unfortunate incidents in their lives. In fact, I think that's the only logical explanation. lol

  • @BeefBoullionaire probably. And compliments to your channel name. Very clever.

  • @ItsSkaTV Actully it was 17. how could 17 people dislike this. is it too funky?

  • @SuperThedboy Nah, it prolly made them bounce...and they hit that stick they have up their ass on the ground. :p :D

Can I get a Hallelujah and an Amen, brothers & sistah's?

  • @420j0n3z3y Amen Brotha!

  • seriously what sad bastards come to this the most influential song ever and press dislike

  • The most influential loop of all time & an all round belting tune !!!!!

    cheers for posting

  • 1:25

  • Aquasky Feat Ragga Twins - Living Legends , sampled this lol :)

  • jajajajaja power puff girls song

  • ... but the other instruments sound cool too... :(

  • @dingovory it was recorded in a magical moment in the space time continuum, where during those 6 seconds the earth was bombarded with magical musical love from the gods of awesomeness

  • @carrito1981 lmao!

  • how the hell does 6 seconds of drumming in a song not widely known revolutionize music?

  • @dingovory It was pretty well known back in the day. This song was a B-Side to one of their songs that hit #7 on Billboard.

  • @squidisrad good info

  • @dingovory its extremely well known with in the music industry. you can hear it in thousands of songs and adds. Its basically everywhere.

  • 1:26 ;)

  • aw thats some old school dnb , dayum

  • big respect to the winstons cos i fuckin love drum n bass

  • 1:27 !

  • 1:26

  • It always staggers me that tracks like "Ray Keith - Something out there feat. Leah (the original)" have their origin in "The Winstons - Amen Brother"

  • And to think that this song would end up being the root of DnB and more.

  • Amen! 6 seconds break.

  • great break. Nice tune...100%Overproof

  • ;Video explains the world's most important 6-sec drum loop' brought me here.

  • damn that break is STORY

  • If I was in a room with Hitler, Stalin, and the guy who disliked this video, and I only had two bullets, I'd shoot the guy who disliked this TWICE!

  • 1:26 for the break

  • @chefprotoss amen

  • @Profy00 lol

  • 13 people are atheist and don't like listening to the amen break

  • Amen, brother!

  • Between this 'funky drummer' and 'god made me funky' you have all Hip Hop, R&B DnB and jungle covered. homage to Clyde Stubblefield (funky Drummer) and Mike Carke (Headhunters) and Mr Amen Gregory C Coleman !

  • Oh yeah DMV.

  • Imagine how little of a shit everyone would give about this song if the break wasn't open.

  • in todays standards, would this song be considered drum n' bass?

  • @SolvoMonastica no...it would be considered jungle style...drum n bass is a bit different but the fact is that dnb has it roots directly from jungle

  • @SolvoMonastica In the standard of the early 90s, Almost all Drum and Bass would be considered this song.

  • It wasn't analytical chemistry but music technolgy and acoustics.

  • reminds me of Clubbed to death by rob dougan?

  • 0:03 -> Listen to the heavenly cornets brother!

  • yeah its epic

  • I only found out about this track form my uni course and i tell you what, it is simply awesome. Funky, fresh and a wicked track! I salute these guys for making a killer track which has been used for generations.

  • @jakamneziak I wonder which course. Please tell me it was Analytical Chemistry. That would just be fantastic.

  • The meaning of Amen might have been lost if it weren't for Drum n Bass... Churches all over the world should dedicate a service to the biggest Amen break DnB tunes of the 90s.. Mc Vicar and DJ 'e' sus on the 1's n 2's!

  • The mother of all tracks .....you must pay homage to this track !!!!

  • I never knew that drum loop was from REAL drums. i always thought it was from a synth/drum machine preset. Well i guess drums dont sound real when you speed them up to 175BPM or slow them down to 80BPM

  • Yo Winstons, I'ma borrow that funky-ass drum loop, alright? Thanks! See ya around

    - Jungle

  • @ElFudgeMusic (Jungle and a shitload of other music)

  • @ElFudgeMusic "Jungle" Scratch that and replace it with "Every-fucking-one"

  • @ElFudgeMusic

    Lmao!

  • grandfather of JUNGLE

  • HOLY SHEITT...EVERYTHING IN THE 90'S 80'S HAS THOSE DRUMS...FUNNY...

  • This will still be fresh in 3011

  • @fuddyboi Hopefully music will have progressed passed this by then. But for now, it's beautiful.

  • This beat will never Die!!!

  • and they never made any money from that 6 famous seconds of history

  • one of the most important snare tones ever

  • New Jack Swing, is mostly fantastic. This...much better, just a really great track.

  • 29Hz sent me =]

  • Jungle R.I.P. 1992-1995

  • jungle lives on you dickhead

  • @Crastafari1 then you don't know shit about it new jack fag.

  • My life would be so much more miserable if this song was never made...

  • dude .. those crazy ones ... puhh :-D

  • Jungle

  • this is actually a good ass song.

  • burdddd upp!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The beat lives on. Thanks guys.

  • It's kids are all grown up and hanging out in clubs across the U.S. & U.K. ... but Mom'n'Dad are still funky.

  • LOOOOOOOOOOOVE this tune!!! And the break speaks for itself : ) Amen Brother!

  • Amen, brother.

  • @skaMasta - Amen first came into national prominence when sung by Sidney Poitier and a bunch of "nuns" in the film Lillies Of The Field. In early 1965 The Impressions had a # 7 Hot 100/# 17 R&B hit with it, and in 1970 recorded a new version which finished at # 44 R&B and # 110 Hot 100 "Bubble Under." Meanhile, in 1968, Otis Redding had his version reach # 15 R&B and # 36 Hot 100 that summer. All under the single-word title Amen.

  • Speaking of samples, isn't the melody of "Amen" itself borrowed from an earlier uncredited gospel tune? I see the melody too, sampled in a lot of music. Bob Marley and The Wailers even did a Ska/Reggae cover of the "Amen" hymn.

  • its every trues artist's dream for their art to live on even after they pass. thank you mr. coleman. god bless you. and he did.

  • @alpharisc no shit, this is where it came from...

  • @shomitb you obviously missed his sarcasm

  • They stole the amen break!

dont rage at me im joking.

  • They seem to use the Amen break in this track.

  • @alpharisc

    O RLY?

  • @alpharisc they invented it

  • @MrSammyface ORLY?

  • @alpharisc .....errr sort of, the Amen break CAME from this record - wrong way around

  • @jat447 lol .

  • @jat447 i think he was joking mate

  • @birdy20034ever Damn it, I get that now.... I assumed he was an American!

  • @jat447 ouch, that hurt.

  • 12 people have no soul..... can i get an Amen ???

  • James Brown's "I've got money", from 1962, has a "jungle" beat too.

  • thus, the Powerpuff Girls were born!

  • @BigCM06:

Not quite. They were born from the Funky Drummer, known to some as either FD, JB, or CS.

  • Yes, God bless them! After years of being fan of - and practicing - this music, finally I found my way. Thanks for posting this!

  • hard to believe that a 6 second breakbeat from a song in a 60s inspired countless genres and made them what they were 50 years later: old school hip hop, drum and bass, jungle, rap, jazz, funk etc

  • 1:27 - 1:33 Origin Of The D&B Species.

  • @wangdalf hahah amen brother! damn thats crazy... spawned a whole new genre! thats powerful shtuff!

  • I can't believe I heard that beat so many times before finally hearing the original song. Nowadays, I can't stop listening to it. This music sounds like pure joy to me. There should be a holiday honouring G.C. Coleman or something.

  • @wangdalf why is this? i haven't wathced the amen break video yet, but I will soon!

  • i remember this in power puff girls

  • @linkparko Toonami intro'd PPG with a DnB track that had this break, good times.

  • this is awesome!

  • And lo, Jungle was born.... kind of

  • I wonder where music would be if these guys had never got together..

  • As an atheist, this is still fucking awesome.

  • @SharkyAteYew since when does religious backing control general musical preference?

  • Instrumentals never get any love. This is a great song in itself. BTW, any of you guys remember the name of that song that goes like dummm pa dee do dum dum dum? Send me a PM.

  • @Tadesan

    Funky Drummer?

  • @fonkymaster great call! Check "Classical Gas"

  • don't get me wrong the break is great and has been sampled everywhere but in all honesty i think the song is great in itself yet is only known for the drum break

  • How did he get that Drumsound ?

  • @4516n41 vintage gear man... vintage gear.... :D

  • @Xenitic

    oh yeah ;)

  • This break was a turning point in my breakbeat journey.. life has never been the same since.

  • Yep yooo!

  • Ladies and Gentleman, this is where it started.

  • I never knew a church song is what started out drum and bass. Amen to that!
