@elsunn Well............when I still had the back seat on it, it would pull my wife and I at 80mph. But that was maxed out. I wouldn't want to try cruising at that speed for extended periods. The bike is very nimble and seemed most at home on back roads between 45 and 55mph. I only bobbed the Rebel because it's what I had. If I was in the market for another bike to bob, I'd be looking for a Shadow VLX or a V-star. Their rear suspension is hidden, which gives the bike a hard tail look.
What mufflers did you use? Its the perfect sound ive been looking for for my rebel. Where did you get them? And did you change anything in the carb after the changing pipes?
@jasmith1988 They are shortys. About $25 each from J.C. Whitney. And no, I made no carb adjustments after swapping pipes. Each bike has its own quirks, but more often than not, you can change exhaust on a bike without making carb adjustments. Changes are usually only needed if you modify the air intake.
@77camosoul The product number on JC Whitney's site is 16468G. They're the EMGO chrome plated replacement mufflers. You'll have to measure to make sure you order the right diameter. I can't remember what size I used and I've since sold the bike.
How is the springer seat working out with the rear suspension? I've heard that if you have a sprung seat *and* a rear suspension the two can actually work against each other and cause some resonate bouncing. Don't know if this is true or not or if so how much of a real problem it would be.
@toomanyedwards I had the same concern but I decided to try it anyway. I thought the ride was comfortable. I weigh about 180lbs and I found the ride was, if anything, firm and not at all bouncy. The three inch springs are pretty solid, and I had the rear shocks adjusted out to the softest setting. Believe it or not, it was actually a pretty smooth ride for such a light bike.
The drag bars look awesome! Where did you get those and how much were they? Did you have to modify the controls to make them fit? Great job all around!
@toomanyedwards Thanks. They are from ebay, as is most everything else I've added to the bike. I think I paid $20 or so for them. Aside from removing the gauge cluster, which I was going to do anyway, the only thing I had to do to make them work was turn the risers in the opposite direction. I also removed one of the screws from the ignition switch and rotated it down about a 1/4 inch just to get clearance. Everything else is stock, including the cables.
@toomanyedwards I apologize. After going back and looking at this video, I realized I hadn't yet turned the risers around as stated in my first reply. I eventually did turn them around though. This just gives the handlebars more room to clear the tank when turning sharp. Just wanted to clarify that and eliminate any confusion.
@kutila Including the cost of the bike, about $1000. You can pick these rebels up pretty cheap. This one happened to be my wife's starter bike that we picked up used.
sweet job, looks so sick/simple. could we get a nice description of what ya did to it? another video of a ride when ya get everything on would be awesome as well!
@futbolgi Thanks bro. I just stripped everything off I didn't need. The suspension is all stock. I chopped off the stock mufflers and installed a cheap pair of shortly mufflers from JC whitney. I mounted a $25 springer seat from Ebay and $25 drag handlebars. The tail light and license bracket were from road6customs which are also sold on ebay. Ive done a few other minor things like strip the original paint from the tank and respray it with primer. I've still got some finishing touches to do.
