@CTT, it is the lesser known places where really good food exists and they are all over CA in terms of getting away from the major food places. For ultimate exploration there is the motherlode of CA along CA 49, the southeastern sand dunes outside of Brawley, Salvation Mtn, the beaches of PCH, and a lot more which make all parts of CA great. I think it is over scenery and finding the gems that the smaller towns have to offer for people passing through. A lot of history to the golden state.

if you eat a quarter pounder w/ cheese or a double quarter pounder w/ cheese you will gain weight. Actually "Supersize Me" covered the topic on McDonalds pretty well. There is nothing healthy about fast food. Better off learning to cook for yourself and you get more enjoyment out of it but yes in general, anything can make you fat. Fast food is cheap but it is very unhealthy.

if you live in So Cal, LA county, there's still a McDonalds in Downey that still has the Golden Arches, walk up windows, and no patio, playground, or dinning room. Located at the cornor of Fountain and Firestone(?)

I mean there is Tommy's and In & Out and countless other Good Burger places to go in So Cal. Better yet the cow in Family Guy said it best "....eat a salad instead" :) Honestly since we are talking about travel tips, screw McD's and go to

Venice Beach. Better things to do down there than eat :)

@CaliforniaTravelTips, I like my Fries Light at In 'N Out with cheese and grilled onions. It is what I call a poor man's hash browns. Then if one is not into carbs, you can just get a grilled cheese protein style which is lettuce wrapped. I don't have too much in the way of burgers and I don't know if there is a difference in taste between what I had at the so Cal locations vs. the NV locations. Still a great place to eat however nowadays I'm a tripas, buche, and lengua taco fan :)

There's a story that the McDonald brothers forced Ray Kroc to pay 2.7 Mi. for their franchise in 1961 while their restaraunts were ( according to Kroc) losing money, outraged, he was left with no choice but to pay what they asked for by their lawyers. This was a huge sum back in 1961. He quoted that he ( after he paid the amount) would "Get those SOB'S" and proceeded to open a Mc Donalds next to their diner. They went out of business for good.
