I remember this song from when I was a little kid and till this day it still brings tears to my eyes there was a purity to music back then I don't remember how old I was specifically when I heard this song but at a young age I understood the emotion that went into writing this song... Nowadays music is a quick fix to get you out of a mood or what not but happened to the music that really made you feel something deep inside?

This is my all time favorite song. It tells of eternal love beyond time and place. It is so ethereal and the way he wrote it is perfect. I resented Simon for bashing this song on American Idol. I also just covered this song recently. Rest in peace, Dan Fogelberg. You made the world better, and your music and legacy will live on.

This is one of the most achingly beautiful songs of all time. Lyrically and melodically it's stunning. The lushness of the strings is not to heavy handed and the emotional impact is just amazing. Moves me to tears every time I hear it.

Dan was on Regis and Kathy Lee once and when she mentioned this song he said although it was well known, he didn't think it was nearly as good as some of the others he'd written. I think maybe that's why he didn't perform it live very often. Maybe he thought it would stereotype him as a singer of mellow sentimental songs like this, when all along he was capable of much harder "rock" type music. Whatever his feelings were, this song remains an all time classic!

This is without doubt as great a love song as has ever been written. I saw Dan Fogelberg perform live on two occasions and was very disappointed that this song was not included.

Love this song and was really disappointed when Dan didn't sing it in concert when I saw him. I heard him say that he didn't really think the song was all that great. I thought maybe since he and his wife split up he might now have wanted to relive his past feelings ever night.

I set up my Itunes to play along with the youtube vid--to me it seems like the music matches up pretty well, but the vocals are off--so perhaps at the show-for quality sake-the music was prerecorded and Dan just sang live...I believe in an interview once he said he would never lip-sync..and yes--he didnt need to--his voice is superb... :)

I doubt that Dan is lipsyncing? It seems, he is singing over the original track. Since this was sung on American Idol, my almost 13yr. daughter just loves this song. She knows that Fogelberg is my favorite. I keep Phoenix in the car and she can't wait to hear this. I believe she connects to it,because of the simply written lyrics and beautiful melody.
