I am just getting started with mixing drinks for fun at home, I have a quick question about that. I read that creme de violette was used to add that beautiful blue color but as you said it is very hard to find. Could you use a few dashes of blue curacao for this effect or would that ruin the drink? I am keeping in mind the historical aspect of the drink and I wouldn't want to use blue food coloring! Thank you
Yeah... I wouldn't do that for the Aviation. In addition to imbuing the cocktail with a purple hue, the violette adds a delicate floral note that rounds off the cocktail. It may be hard to find in stores, but not online. Try DrinkUpNYC, that's where I got mine.
you're missing the creme de violette. i know it's hard to find, but it makes the cocktail.
