  • Thanks for the excellent video as a result i bought one although here in the UK it is illegal as a carry knife, but i wanted one, with regard to the groving on the blade i think they have sorted that out as mine is fine, the blade is marked Taichung Taiwan, and as they cost the equivalent of $185 i dont fancy "polishing the shit out of it"Thanks again for your ever informative videos...

  • The knives aren't just QC'd in Taiwan, they're QC'd again when they hit the US and Spyderco gets them back from the factory. They're just as gone-over as the US models, if not more-so.

  • great knife i got sage 2 TI

  • Hi are you backi yet have not seen you for a wile

  • you mentioned that you used your favorite lube on the knife. what is that exactly?

  • i have had some usa spyderco knives that had problems but never a japan, china, or taiwan spyderco knife with problems maybe because they arent as critical in usa quality control because they figure its gonna be better in the usa

  • I would be afraid to loose it if the EDC knife is over $40....... I was very upset when my $30 knife was stolen at a local car shop .... Plus I only need one knife, I do not need like 5, 10 or 20 knives that basically just sit around the place... but that is just me. not sure what would be an ultimate EDC knife would be ..

  • I have the Sage 2 and It's one of my favs. I need to get one of the 1's because the 3's are coming out soon.

  • Taiwan upsets me too.

  • HOLY fuck just got the knife and it is amazing, got it for a great price 80$

  • @brownbear696969 used or new?

  • why the hell you don't like taiwan, Taiwanese made does not equal China made. I hope you know Taiwan is one of the strongest economic powers in Asia so the production quality would be close to the first world countries in the west.

  • Great Video. You cover more of the craftsmanship and design quality that goes into these products than the other YouTubers. I really appreciate that.

BTW, what is the best knife on cardboard out of the box you've ever tested or EDC'd?

  • @alxra

    Thanks for the compliments.

Spyderco Military did the best at slicing cardboard, for a folder.

    RC-3 did the best for a fixed-blade.

  • to this is smaller than the cally?

  • @PCRedman

It's actually a bit bigger than the Caly3.

  • here we go again ,,, the clip in the way ,,, and acctualy causes discomfort at times come on you guys do away with the clip ,,,, i have ,,,, its more costly to mfg. costs more for the knife ,, and is a pain in the ,,, i have developed something that does away with the clip ,, you guys can too ,,,, i hear so so many faults of the clips on tabletops ,,,, finally do away with then my appologiies to those who use them ,,,, thanks steve al the pal

  • Is the "Taiwan" engraved or can i polish it out?

  • @Pinzgauamascht

It's engraved - and pretty deeply, too.

  • @BLUNTRUTH4U

thx...but this word should not be on a 180$ Knife :(

  • @Pinzgauamascht

    $180!!!!

I hope you didn't pay that much for it. You can get it for $110 or less.

  • @BLUNTRUTH4U

Dont worry, thats the price on the spyderco homepage ;)

But here in european shops the sage costs 200$(!), if id buy one i woud import it

  • @BLUNTRUTH4U canada i think

  • that is a nice knife...i was looking at the delica 4 and you showed the sage...now i am looking at sage reviews....

  • It shows how little people know about Taiwan quality vs China. Taiwan is 30 years ahead of China in technology and democracy with free elections. China is a communist country. I would buy Taiwan made in a heartbeat but would not touch anything made in Chna.

  • Sheeple, LOL

  • I believe the blade is made in the USA and then shipped to Taiwan where the knife is made. It is nice to see Spyderco freely admit this rather than taking the alternate route so many companies do and say Made in the USA if only a part is or if it is only assembled here. Anyway. I think I am gonna take compound to mine and take it up to a polish.

  • The quality of parts I buy from Taiwan as a manufacturer of high end stereo cables often exceed US OEM parts I buy.

  • I have this now in my collection...and what a sweetheart I absolutely love this knife, perhaps the finest one among my Spydercos. I wonder how much for exampele a $ 400 Strider sng (have never owned/used one myself) could be better.

    Be safe.

  • Nope. I don't often sell any of my knives, but I have on occasion.

  • I'm really liking your reviews, probably my new favorite. Just knives, straight, honest, and simple.

The wire clip isn't anodized, it's steel wire that they actually heat treat, so that coloring is just from the heat treating.

  • I don't like the titanium handle on the Sage 2 as it feels cold on hand and quite slippery. The Sage 3 will be out this year with a new locking system (forgot the name but looks like Benchmade's AXIS lock) and the handle is G10, to me the Sage 1 is definitely better than the Sage 2 and 3.

  • what do yall think, i want to get a sage 1, i love the look of the carbon fiber, BUT, the sage 2 is a titanium with the R.I.L lock, and so i wonder if im giving up some sturdyness for the looks of the carbon fiber, i mean, is the sage 1 as strong or sturdy as the sage 2, please help me, this ones tearing me apart!!

  • Another great video. The Sage is definitely one of Spyderco's best folders

  • thanks all for your comments - think I will send it in to Colorado and see what they say about!

  • Great vid man. The CPM S30V blade is made in the US and the knife is built and assembled in Taiwan.

Miss your vids man, I hope your troubles are behind you now.

  • I like cajunblaze's vid on him EDC'in the CF Sage with various tasks.

    Very cool. Cool knife!

  • Yeah, i don't like seeing "China" on my Tenacious but its forgivable for it being a $30 spyderco knife.

  • I bought a sage 1, returned it, and bought a para military made in Golden Colorado USA Earth :-)

  • are the liner titanium?

  • No. I have a Sage, too, so I thought I'd answer this question for you.

  • If you seriously think the Tenacious is "nothing special" then you simply don't know what you're talking about. You'd be better served by losing the xenophobia and judging the product on its own merits. Sorry, just the blunt truth.

  • I can tell you haven't watched many of Blunt's vids, because you are completely WRONG

  • Wow, you did not listen to what the man said. Plus, if you think a Tenacious is actually worthy of being called "special", that shows serious ignorance.

The Tenacious is a low-end knife any way you cut it dude. It's not a Golden Spyderco, it's not even a Seki City Spyderco. It's nothing special, it's in the lineup of the lowest end Spyderco knives offered. He's simply pointed out flaws you don't see from a lack of experience. Hell, he liked it enough to buy one, but it IS a beater knife dude.

  • @mindsmirror - your response is accurate for the Tenacious but Seki City needs help to. I received a Superhawk a week ago and its a beautiful blade but there are a couple quality issues that could have been caught. The lanyard hole rattles, the Spydie hole should have been ground better and polished so I am doubting they have top of the like quality there now.

  • I said, "It's not a Golden Spyderco, it's not even a Seki City Spyderco."

To me, that statement clearly indicates that Seki City's quality is LOWER than Golden, CO. I never said Seki City was perfect dude, they aren't.

Where did you get the Superhawk from out of curiosity? If it was from a certain individual I'm thinking of, then I have to wonder if you got sold a shitty one at a really low price.

  • @mindsmirror - I purchased it online from knifecenter. dot com I guess the knife is great just the lanyard casing (circular piece in there) rattles and the Spydie hole wasn't ground inside very well. The knife was $107 plus shipping. I have a Manix 2 from Golden that is awesome though. I agree with you!

  • I think you got that price because they are knockoffs or "factory seconds" (Flawed factory knives). The Superhawk is a knife that still runs from $170-$200 at most knife stores. The fact that they are listed for $107 is a red flag to me. If you look at the comments section at knifecenter there are plenty of people saying it actually seems like a knockoff knife. I can't say for sure what it is, but the ones I've seen were top notch dude. It sounds like its lower quality than a tenacious!

  • You need to contact spyderco and find out if you actually got a real Superhawk. You can post it on the spyderco forums and find out. Sal Glesser himself posts on there and regularly reads the threads.

  • They also may be able to repair the knife for you.

  • @se4g4e The tenacious is the low end of the Spyderco lineup. IMO it blows but hey it still cuts shit. All depends on your taste and preference.

  • True, with good quality control it doesn't really matter so much which country a product is made in anymore.

  • u have to understand only beucase its made in thaiwan its doesnt mean that spyderco gettin slappy with the the qualitty controll

its only the workers that gettin paid less i understand if u want to support U.S.A then u want to buy usa made knife thats up to u

great vid thanx greetings from sweden

  • GET THE SAGE 2

  • love it!

  • Well, I guess if there is Chinese made spyderco worth over 100$, it will be impressive too. Don't really matter where you made these, for these brands, usually you get what you pay for, at least close.

  • Key word in your comment being "usually".

I don't have anything against China, but some countries have a better reputation for quality than others.

Since doing this review I have learned that there is a BIG difference between Taiwan quality control and Chinese quality control.

  • Taiwan? Who cares. What matters is that is also says Spyderco on it.

  • Ya, well, the Tenacious says Spyderco, and it isn't anything great, IMO.

  • That's like comparing a Prius and a Mercedes. That is a $140 knife the Tenacious is a $35 knife. An unfair comparison.

  • I'd take the Prius

  • @langdon04 Over a Mercedes?

  • @BLUNTRUTH4U that is my greatest fear, the tenacious is my first spyderco and now...i just don't know

  • I just got mine this week. It's a very nice and I think it's the best CF scaled knife offered by Spyderco today apart from the Stretch 2 CF. I think it's a better value then either the Native 4 CF or the Caly 3 CF. I'll have to keep an eye on the factory blade finish and see how it performs.

  • I guess I better descibe this a little better. My knife has those grind lines you're talking about from the spine to the edge but it's like they're under the surface a tad! So the surface of the blade is very smooth unlike your knife like you said is kind of rough and was getting caught up on things like cardboard, etc.. Anyway, keep up the good work, I love your videos!

  • Then you have the same grind "problem" that I have. But it's not a problem for you, because you don't use the knife for the same things.

The cardboard in my test (and that I cut at work) is EXTREMELY stiff, quarter inch thick stuff. We box 3000 pound things in it - seriously - with wooden supports. The knife as it comes doesn't cut that stuff well. Polished blades do.

Glad you like it. It's one of my favorites!

  • I just got my sage today and the blade is as smooth as my Caly 3! It's not rough at all!

  • That's really strange. Because everyone I talk to has the same grind as mine. It's designed that way. The groves go from the spine to the edge. So if you run a sharp piece of hard plastic up the blade side to the tip it kind of vibrates. A polished blade will show no grind lines at all.

Your's is a fluke. Lucky you.

  • I don't see any issues with Taiwanese made products. They are one of the few democratic allies we have to stand up against the mainland Chinese in that part of the world. That being said, I would still prefer a Golden CO mark on a Spyderco.

  • I use to equate Taiwan made with China made. I don't any more. Not just because of the Sage, I took a look at many of my Taiwan blades and see very good quality construction (especially compared to China). I hope more people catch on to that. I am going to mention that in future reviews of Taiwan knives.

  • Great review! Now I know why the Sage is so popular. Love your tip about polishing the blade.

I understand why you started doing videos. Most other reviews are full of excited babble about the owners new toy. Your reviews are more about the pros & cons of the knike for actual use, not EDF (every day Fondling).

AND you actually cut stuff with the knife.

Function over form, thank you Bluntruth!

  • Thank you for the compliments,

and for understanding why I do - what I do - the way I do.

  • Everyone is selling out thesedays, one of my ECHOS are "Assembeled in China" pissed me off. Still a nice blade.

  • i love Clay 3 my favorite knife

  • Very cool, Man.. Just finished watching both parts... Excellent.. Really like the idea of polishing the blade... Glad to hear that made all the difference.. Ya really gotta love that Carbon Fiber...

Thanks for that great review, Man! 5/5

  • Thanks for your review!

    Anyone reading this:

If you want to see some more nice close-ups of the Sage, watch nycdave212's vid on it. Just click his name above!

  • Too kind, Sir... But don't know what more anyone could want after watching your series of vids on this knife! :)

  • I was going ot ask if you threw it and kicked it right after you saw where it was made but then you answered my question. LOL.

  • Nice review! I actually just got a Sage 1 a few days ago (bought it for $98!). I haven't had to chance to use it a whole lot yet, but I definitely agree that the overall quality is excellent. Spyderco has always had great QC

  • lmao spyderco finally does a perfect edc design then doesnt polish the blade haha

  • very nice taiwan is well known for making excellent quality knives

  • Ya know, a couple hours ago I actually compared some of my Taiwan knives with some of my China knives. I can definitly agree with you that Taiwan is, in fact, better than China.

I had never realized this before.

  • Thanks man. Great review. I've wanted one of these and wondered how it was even though it was made in Taiwan. Now I know. Appreciate the vids.

  • Great review, thanks Steven

  • Keep it up! 5/5
