This phone is much tougher than most phones out there... just don't mistreat it for fun as in the video. It is as tough as I think all mobiles should be; it will likely stand sandy/wet beaches and the occasional little drop. It is however NOT water immersible (ip54 just guarantees resistance against water flushing) and moreover the lid is the phone's Achilles heel, can dislodge on the sides by just a minor knock (=waterproofness gone until you snap it back).

The 3720 is pretty tough.. When I had one, I used it as a hackysack many times. I dropkicked it 20 metres into a brick wall once or twice. It is tough.

It did eventually weaken though, and I broke it. Look for signs of metal fatigue, particularly on the outside casing.

I wish I could find it in the red and blue colours shown here though.

I think Nokia needs to make a 3G toughphone though.. Without it, the phone is limited..

it's IP 54 certified, this means that it is not waterproof but it can take water spilling on it, so i don't think I will take mine for a swim.

@sidlead66 nope. sometimes the dude in the camera was closest to the phone, which would pick it up and call, and sometimes the camera dude threw the phone away, then he would call that phone, instead of getting it.

IP65 and IP54 are the most commonly used in the manufacture of electrical products for use in industry. An IP65 rated product will be fully protected against dust and airborne particles whilst also be protected against water jets which would allow the machine to be washed down, while an IP54 rating offers dust protection (but not total) and protects against splashing of water but not wash-down. IP ratings do go higher than IP65 (IP68 would provide complete dust and underwater protection)

That battery hatch is secured by a screw. Only problem is that the screw in turn is not secured to the chassis, but to a small plastic pin.

Phones that are built to be strong, will survive this kind of use, but no iPhone, or N97, they are full of very advanced and small new technology, they are not meant to be strong in this level . . . .

And if they wanted to cheat with display things, it would be very easy to just use phone that is not broken in the last sentence. You cant say if its broken or not, I dont belive that its broken.

And idea is not that someone treats it that way. But someone's who move a lot, and have their phones in tough use, example work in that kind of high places, its quite easy that it drops. And in that case its good to be a strong phone. This was just to test if its strong or not. =)
