I heard it was actually Johnny Depp who objected to the kiss, because of the age difference between him and Mia Wasikowska. He's 46 and she's 20 or so. He claims "they complete each other, like a brother and sister" -- but I'm tellin' you, he SURE didn't play it brotherly! They had terrific on-screen chemistry together, and it was obvious to see the attraction between the characters, even if there wasn't any between the actors.

This was a great video. I'm pissed at Disney for cutting 2 parts out of the script. Tarrant and Alice were supposed to kiss 2 seperate times!!! But apparently it was wrong for an older man and a young girl to be in love, even though with Time in the original Alice In Wonderland Tarrant has so many UNbirthdays that he isn't even aging!
For those who want a happy ending for these 2, look up Aras Potter and read Through The Looking Glass Again and Saving Underland (in that order) they're parts 1&2
im acutually writting a sequal! it starts off ten years after this and alice turns up at hamish's door dying with a little five year old girl (looks just like alice) and asks him to keep her safe from stayne (yeah he comes back) and then when Lucy (the daughter) turns 19, she falls into the rabbit hole running after the rabbit who thinks she is alice. the mad hatter runs up to her thinking its alice but then he sees its not =( but in the end they fall in love and unlike her mother she stays <3

@AllysonSteele I believe they called it simply 'Alice'. The Hatter's VERY cute in the show also. I don't know if they'll replay it on Scyfy, though. Maybe you can search if there's a DVD. I actually liked it MUCH better than the TIm Burton movie if I may give my honest opinion.

I just watched the movie again, on Pay-Per-View, and I definitely think there was something going on, there. I saw it more with the Hatter, than with Alice, though. It seemed like he really had a thing for her, and she just thought of him as a friend. I remember in the ending scene, oh my goodness, the look in his eyes... it gave everything away, lol.

@MadelineHatter They should have, if they kept most lines the same from the first script (Damn them for not using it) then obviously people ARE going to ASUME there's romance there! If they tried to edit the lines so there appeared to be a brother/sister relationship (I'm not on about incest here!) then the people who rewrite it failed, I'm glad they failed because there is at least SOME H/A Romance there, it would've been perfect if they used the first script.

at the end of the movie, the Hatter comes up behind Alice and say "You could stay, you know." Hatter really has no determined age. It's a magical land, and just because Johnny's 46 doesn't mean that Hatter is. And Alice is about to turn 20, by the way, so she's totally legal XD. Also, in Victorian times, it was completely normal for a woman to marry a man old enough to be her father, even. So I doubt age was really an issue.
In some of the fan-fictions I've read (yes, after watching Burton's version of Alice), Hatter is not actually in good terms with 'Time' so he doesn't have an 'aging period' so to say. I also wondered how 13 years ago, when Alice was still 6, the Hatter looks the same. Proves the point that he has no solid age.
@SaruwatariYuki The fanfiction authors that use that in their stories have all my praise because they have actually studied the Alice in Wonderland books. The Mat Hatter is in trouble with 'Time' His life clock is litteraly stuck at 6:00, the time he drinks tea at, so thats why he's always drinking tea and he's stuck at the same age. He's around 36 to 40. But you would only know about his problem with 'time' if you've actually read the original books. Thats why he always looks the same

As fun as this would be, it's sadlly not the case.
In one of the interviews it was said that Hatter and Alice's relationship was more of a Brother/Sister relationship, not a romantic one.

@MadelineHatter They should have, if they kept most lines the same from the first script (Damn them for not using it) then obviously people ARE going to ASUME there's romance there! If they tried to edit the lines so there appeared to be a brother/sister relationship (I'm not on about incest here!) then the people who rewrite it failed, I'm glad they failed because there is at least SOME H/A Romance there, it would've been perfect if they used the first script.

They should have got together but hopefully (although it's unlikely) Tim Burton will make a sequel and the Hatter and Alice can get married and have mini Hatters with cute orange hair and he can make them all little hats and they'll all live happily ever after. ^_^ <3

at the end of the movie, the Hatter comes up behind Alice and say "You could stay, you know." I thought they were totally gonna fall in love or something, and for those of you worried about age, the Hatter is in trouble with Time so it is always 6:00 for him. Even though they didnt fall in love, did it leave anyone else hoping for a sequel?

but in my book she`s married to hamish. UGH! lol. she doesn`t want to be with him though her mother and his mother pushed her into being with him. Also i came up with this idea that she has a necklase that hatter gave her before she left and that necklase has powers and takes her back to wonderland! :D

Hatter really has no determined age. It's a magical land, and just because Johnny's 46 doesn't mean that Hatter is. And Alice is about to turn 20, by the way, so she's totally legal XD. Also, in Victorian times, it was completely normal for a woman to marry a man old enough to be her father, even. So I doubt age was really an issue.

In some of the fan-fictions I've read (yes, after watching Burton's version of Alice), Hatter is not actually in good terms with 'Time' so he doesn't have an 'aging period' so to say. I also wondered how 13 years ago, when Alice was still 6, the Hatter looks the same. Proves the point that he has no solid age.

@SaruwatariYuki The fanfiction authors that use that in their stories have all my praise because they have actually studied the Alice in Wonderland books. The Mat Hatter is in trouble with 'Time' His life clock is litteraly stuck at 6:00, the time he drinks tea at, so thats why he's always drinking tea and he's stuck at the same age. He's around 36 to 40. But you would only know about his problem with 'time' if you've actually read the original books. Thats why he always looks the same

@babyjacqbox He doesnt have an age but he is described as a man in his late 30's. He also doesnt age because he is in trouble with "Time". His life clock is stuck at 6:00, so he can't age.

Oh, I didn't know he was described as such, but I did know the bit about time. He "murdered" it during a concert the Queen was giving, and ever since they've been on bad terms hehe. However, he's rather lucky not to age, if you ask me. But I suppose things would get pretty dull, always stuck at the exact same time >_>.

@NobodyCaresWebshow Not really. They cut the kiss out because Tim Burton wanted the fans to know notice the hints, not make them ovbious. and Jonnny depps wife is a jealous person. It has nothing to do with their ages. And she's 20. Not 17. And hes in his late 30's.

They are adorable. I noticed it, straight away. I came home from the theatre the first time I saw it and said to my mom, "You know, it seemed to me that Hatter and Alice had a bit of a thing for each other. I kept expecting them to hug or...something," hehe. Cute <3.

You have to be all kinds of stupid when a really sweet, cute, and respectable guy asks you to stay with him in a magical world and you say no, i have things to do. And i was also upset at the fact that there was absolutly NO PHYSICAL goodbye between them. She couldnt give him a kiss or hug goodbye? Jesus! XD

@Emiilyy94 I dont like him. i only liked the "Falling in love with Alice, and kissing her before it ends" Thats how the tim burton one should have ended. The reason i dont like him is because he's a normal guy wearing a hat. ANYONE can where a hat and say "im the hatter" i didnt like that, and i also didnt like that his hat didnt have the signature "10/6" card. ALL Hatters have that card. Even the one in batman. Yes, Hes cute and funny, but he wasnt a good Hatter

@loisclarkforever He DOES kiss her in the script of the movie. They are saying Tim Burton took it out because he wanted the fans to notice the hints of romance without making them obvious, that and that Johnny Depps wifes didnt allow him to kiss Alice because shes a jealous person.
