this video is great HAHA these are true bruiser pilots. I just finished completing my private license and the training definitely told us to never do anything demonstrated in the video hahaha
For those saying an aileron roll is a 1G maneuver, you are meaning to say that a barrel roll is a 1G maneuver. There is a difference between an aileron roll and a barrel roll.
A properly executed alieron roll is a +1g maneuver. Stall spins cause way more stress on the aircraft. Jesus, look at some of the student pilot's landings! Stress on the aircraft, give me a break. I've created more stress on an aircraft taxing than performing a roll. The engineers who developed the C 172 knew what they were doing. This aircraft will handle a lot more than you think. This video looks like a couple of guys having a good time...give them a break.
@aaronmann1 - yes, you found me out. How did you figure out my genetics just by reading a fake name on a youtube account. That's amazing!!!!
Let me try! Here's what I know about you just by reading your YouTube account name: You don't even fly airplanes. You are a troll. You have no friends, or family. You are a choad. Your left leg is a little shorter than your right leg. You have astigmatism. Your dog doesn't even like you.
That was fun. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.
I saw some low flying and a 1G aileron roll... not the safest shit I've ever seen, oh well. That maneuver is 100% safe with ANY aircraft as long as it is done correctly, even a 707.
Stop freaking out you rule-following dumb shit pansy ass idiots. It wasn't safe, agreed? Nothing we can do about it now. Get over it.
how many zeros commenting actually have a license? i'm betting most of the bashers and do gooders never made it past their solo....fuckin grow a set man
Another pair of stupid, arrogant pilots. They'll never learn, because they'll be dead. Just because they have gotten away with it in the past, they think it's perfectly ok. That's why they call it "dead" wrong.
@Hondaridr58 the fact that these guys didn't die is the shit bit. Now some other poor guys are going to have to deal with the consequences of what these twats have done to the airframe when things start falling off...
Why are there so many anal do-good pilots out there? cmon peeps it's supposed to be fun!!. One of the reasons i seldom fly is because of hobby pilots who sit around in the club and the boring shit they come out with. Get a motorbike loads of fun and far less "righteous assholes"......
an aileron roll is barely a 1g maneuver, and though few Skyhawks are allowed such an action, it's not really stressing the aircraft. Just don't stay inverted for too long! I salute the pilots who did this flying. It's good to see I'm not the only one who enjoys some river tracking every now and then!
Are you fucking retarded or something? What on earth do you think you're fucking doing? Not only is this entirely illegal and insanely stupid, you don't know how much damage you've caused these aircraft. What if you overstressed something slightly? What if you started a crack in a spar? All it'll take is a hard landing and then the next time someone tries anything more than a 40 deg. turn he'll rip the wing off. What the fuck are you doing? It's rented. Moron.
Yes, of course what if. That's exactly what aviation safety is based on. And yeah, I forgot how cool potentially killing innocent people a year down the line is, my bad. And the fact of the matter is- you uploaded the video, seem to be endorsing this kind of flying (making you either a "badman" or just retarded) and defending the pilots. Just imagine that my comment is aimed at the pilots anyway (which it is.) Oh, I've managed not to fuck myself thus far. I'll probably keep it that way, thanks.
@blueb0g you aren't going to overstress a 172 with an aileron roll. Performed correctly, it is a positive g maneuver, as is a loop: both of which 172s have done many times without damage. They are usually rated between 4+ and 2-. You just can't stay inverted long whilst performing -g maneuvers, or your utility fuel tanks and oil will say bye bye. Get inverted tanks....................
@blueb0g Are you stupid man a 172 can do a 90 deg bank and 90 deg pitch its all about how many g's iv been in a 172 over 10 times when it was rolled and put in to a spin and half cubins and hammer heads . they can take a beating
That roll itself was a 1G maneuver, and the plane is rated for -1.5 to +3.8 before damage. Ultimate loads are higher.
The risk on the airframe is if you screw up the maneuver, you can break the plane, then die quickly.
As for legality, the plane is not certified nor approved for rolls, and therefore is now and forever an experimental aircraft. If it didn't have an experimental registration, it was unairworthy. Flying it would be certificate actionable. Plus, was the pilot wearing a chute?
I dont see the problem. Many people do rolls and loops in a cessna 150 aerobat. Any airplane can do aerobatics, as long you pull positive G's and dont exceed the limits. And I always look for signs of being overstressed on a rental. Like its been said a bad landing would be way worse. For those who dont do aerobatics, I can see how this may look insane.
@gbaxjr none of those were really violated....91.13 might be in violation even if they were loaded in the utility cat. As for 91.111 you can fly in "formation" legally. and 91.119, well idk how that applies. they were over a river. that to me satisfies the requirement of a landing site without injury or damage to property.....but personally these pilots were idiots. but legal idiots.
my skyhawk has been doing snaprolls on a monthly basis since my grandfather bought it new in 1965. all you BOY SCOUTS who posted anything about airframe stress should go back to flight school and hey, don't forget your knee board and extra pens, pussys... nice video fellas
Well, I have to get my two cents in. Those of us who are negatively commenting were flying when y'all were shittin' yellow! Look up the word 'Yahoo" in your dictionary and you will probably see your picture there. Yes, I also would report you to the FAA if I had the tail number. You all think you are so damn cool; NOT!! Your are Yahoos, plain and simple. Will be lookin' for y'all on the NTSB web site; you know, when they list the crashes, fatilities, et al. See you there.
For all you dumb people, you can do barrel rolls in a 172 like the one shown here as long as you have a parachute. Besides, more stress goes on the airframe learning to land.
Agreed, 172s get put through the shit on flight training exercises. They are a rugged aircraft, as long as they are maintained well they won't fail catastrophically.
Wow, would want me to put a black box in my airplane if I did a leaseback. You would have found some extra charges on your credit card. There are always a few that ruin it for everyone, here are two of them.
@SpartanW98 I fly the proper airplane for the type of flying I want to do that day. There are airplanes designed for that type of flying. What this guy did was illegal and I'd press charges if I were the owner.
Most of us rent aircraft, and take family and friends. I dont want some jackass flying my rental aircraft outside what the aircraft was certified for. Some people just lack respect.
An aircraft get put through way more stress in spin recovery or bad landing than what was shown in this video.
They are also allot more resilient than you think. The 172's at my airport that get rented and used for training. They go through spins and really hard landing every day and have for a long ass time yet they have never had any problems with the airframe.
A roll is a 1 G maneuver if done right, no big deal. The wings aren't gonna fall off a Skyhawk. Still below mins over the river, but 100, 500 or 1500ft....still in the trees on an engine failure.
*yawn* me and a friend have done this befor-oh, wait, i've never done a barrel roll in a cessna. that seems like a bad idea. i can see that going south real fast.
@jakeharvey I agree totally. We rent and log time, but who's to say what stress is put upon the airframe. Fcking idiots. You have your little fun with stressing the airframe like that, then the next innocent pilot that comes along, rents the plane, goes to make a steep turn and rips the damn wings off because the idiot before ruined it all.
Your right the river was too wide for their low altitude. However, I still wouldn't have taken a chance with the roll unless my aircraft was certified. I fly the 172 and I can tell you that isn't certified. The most I can do is a spin. In addition i don't like when the gyro says my attitude is in the red range. So I would pull it to 50 degrees up.
you cant go below 1000 feet above populated areas....and even if you have on person and half tanks a cessna 172 is not made for that shit and it is bullshit that sumone else will probley pay for there fun when the fuckin wing strut says lata
It's interesting that people like acsmashing can only respond with words like dumb fuck, and shove it up your ass. Really elevates the level of debate. Any rational person can see how dangerous that irresponsible flying is, not only to the people on board, but to people below, and to those who rent the plane after they've had it. Try arguing with logic, and not teenage drivel, acsmashing.
amen to that and to everyone talking about metal fatigue i dont think an aileron roll is too hard on a cessna, its not like its rotating quickly anyways
haha when their new they are only rated to +3.5g now these old training mules probs couldnt handle more then 2.5 after the 6000hr or so most (being generous on the hours) yeah it can be done, doesnt make it smart.
It's always nice to be reminded that some irresponsible dimwit might have spent his day barnstorming and overstressing the airframe the day before I rent the same plane to go flying.
You lose quite a lot of altitude doing a manouvre like that, enough altitude for an unsuspecting fellow pilot on the lookout thinking he's well below to clear them without trouble. I know chances of that actually happening is quite slim, but it's Murphy who decides one day it will all go very wrong.
I know what you mean though, barrel rolls are a lot of fun. No sims for me but the real deal cousin larry, if you want you can do aerobatics without endangering anyone else.
A 1G roll is easily done if you know how. That said, these guys are idiots and a bunch of cowboys. Too bad nobody could copy the registration number and get these clowns out of the skies.
@CousinLarry211 What is with all these microsoft flight sim pilots? They need to shut their mouths when they know nothing of what they're talking about, hard to watch youtube videos now cause of all the "know it alls." *sigh*
@CousinLarry211 ha ha these days everyone is trying to suck all the fun out of flying i really didn't see anything that was in complete violation of any FARs maybe a little close to the boats but far enough that it wasn't hazardous and its been said before if the pilot has his aerobatics endorsement there is nothing wrong with a properly executed 1G roll.
Wow ur a real dick........... flying is supposed to be fun and exciting not, lets fly strait and level and bank 15 degrees in the turn. Yes there are regs did they break a few yes but let me ask have you ever broken a speed limit in your car? Oh wait let me guess because it deals with a airplane it makes it super dangerous..... You will learn later in life pilots typically look out for each other what comes around goes around and you may find yourself with a violation
I haven't flown a 172 in a couple years but I do remember that they are a normal and ulility category approved aircraft with G load limitations of +4.4/-1.7 G's. Its not hard to do a 1G roll either. Great video and love the song!
well its common sense, now that i saw the barrol roll. it didn't look like much stress. he did a slow barrel roll so not much to wory about them wings breaking.
I got my private certificate at 17 (early 90s) and did a stupid thing or three at that time. (Thankfully) I did get in trouble with the FBO/flight school and was grounded for a time and definately learned my lesson. I was so immature at 17.
I totaly agree if done properly you can preform this with less stress than you create in a steep turn they can do loops hammer heads pretty much anything that doesn't require a high power to weight ratio
interesting video. if these are rented planes, then someone does deserve some certificate action. BUT please keep in mind that flight 100 over water IS permitted. And there are cessenas certified for aerobatics. I owned a 152 aerobat and had a blast in that little plane.
I work at a flight school and I would surely have the head of the pilots who are flying these planes. They are putting future renters in danger, and it disturbs me a bit.
You really should listen to what people are telling you. You are giving aviation a bad name..and you are posing a threat to yourselves and others below. What if you stressed the airframe to the point where it gives out on the next innocent renter? Better it gives out on you, instead.
this video is great HAHA these are true bruiser pilots. I just finished completing my private license and the training definitely told us to never do anything demonstrated in the video hahaha

@1Gaumer
You don't see anything in violation of the FARs? Maybe you should actually read them, then.

@N88EP they are 500 ft from the structures in a sparsely populated area

How can one determine if an airframe has been overstressed?
dralberthofmann 5 years ago
when the wings fall off the plane is a pretty good indication. hahahahaha.....

Didn't know you could roll a 172 :P

Sweet video, don't listen to all the idiots on here... Have fun or die tryin'
What moron said a barrel-roll is stressful on a plane? HAHAHA
I appreciate the video! Thanks.

I totaly agree if done properly you can preform this with less stress than you create in a steep turn they can do loops hammer heads pretty much anything that doesn't require a high power to weight ratio

Nice vid thanks, always wondered what roll in a Cessna looked like.

interesting video. if these are rented planes, then someone does deserve some certificate action. BUT please keep in mind that flight 100 over water IS permitted. And there are cessenas certified for aerobatics. I owned a 152 aerobat and had a blast in that little plane.
tehkick 5 years ago
I work at a flight school and I would surely have the head of the pilots who are flying these planes. They are putting future renters in danger, and it disturbs me a bit.
Other than that...cool video! =D

Sorry..should have read the details more closely. My comments apply to the pilots.
saskskyboy 5 years ago
You really should listen to what people are telling you. You are giving aviation a bad name..and you are posing a threat to yourselves and others below. What if you stressed the airframe to the point where it gives out on the next innocent renter? Better it gives out on you, instead.
saskskyboy 5 years ago
You're saying this like I am the pilot.
CousinLarry211 5 years ago
Thats called the risk of renting dumbfuck.
acsmashing 3 years ago
@saskskyboy that frame is rated to 3.8g, +1 won't hurt it ;-)
