Chain locks aren't meant to supplement a standard door lock. They are designed so that you don't over expose yourself to a possibly dangerous person, and can have only a small distance to close the door if danger is present. This prevents an intruder from having immediate access to you, and delays their entry, and giving you time to escape the danger (to hopefully get your gun).

Try fitting the chain on the door properly, so that it does not open so far. It's not rocket science is it.

just install the lock further toward the middle of the door it can only be unlocked when the door is fully closed. or just put a small 25cent lock in the hole in the door part of the lock.

yeah they arnt safe when your chain is a foot long. The door should only be able to open 2-3 inches....
