I'm about as far away from Texas you can get, live in southern Sweden. But it's not where you're born, it's where your soul lives. I grew up on genuine country music, woke up in my cradle to the voice of hank Williams, and my dad would take his guitar and sing Wille Nelson to put me to sleep. Got my first guitar when i was 9, the first tunes i learned were Waylons. RIP Waylon, you're missed. Then again, wherever he is, i don't think he's resting, he's kicking ass.
I think the only one on the show circuit that still personifies this music is Jamey Johnson and maybe a hand full of others. But like the good ol boys(Waylon, Willie, Johnny, etc) he lived the life he sings about.
Waylon, you are my Bob Wills. I cut my teeth on WJ music, my kids drove around blasting Waylon, now my granddaughter can pick his music out 1st note. You are all missed, but Waylon you are missed, at least here, more than anyone can imagine.
Fabulous music! Don't make 'em like Waylon, and Willie and Johnny and Bob Wills anymore. While somewhat sad, their beautiful work will live on into eternity.
I grew up listenting to the country legends and its a shame how their is some people who don't know anything about the music they sang. Long live country music, because im proud to listen to them. Love Texas and this cowgirl will always listen to country music.
Man. I grew up going to beer joints all over South Texas, listening to this music, dancing with a beer can/bottle in my back pocket. Something about that steel guitar and fiddle makes me thirsty, and my feet start to move almost on their own. I am grateful to have grown up in America. But I thank God I grew up in Texas....
@Bluebonnett52 Well, I'll descibe him to you. He was from a small town, Nazareth TX, he could drink till the sun came up and he once hooked up with a girl nicknamed Corndog but I never gave him any sh*% about that.
I read a lot about how Country Music has lost its way. Well, Country Music has lost its way in Nashville, but go to Austin or any small honky tonk in Texas and there you'll find Country in its purest form. We Texans haven't forgotten and we're not bound to forget. Pure Country Music is our heritage; it's our culture.
@Weissmenchland The same is true in a lot of Western states, where we don't forget that it used to be called Country and WESTERN for a reason. That's why my taste in country music leans more towards Texas and the Bakersfield Sound. But I also am heartened by a lot of the "Alternative" country and Americana groups, which while not completely country, are definitely outside Nashville's mainstream, and making some great music that's not slick, overproduced "Pop with a twang".
@Weissmenchland damn right! My friends and I can't stand new country! One time we was all fishing, and this kid comes up and says he loves Jason Aldean, Taylor Swift, etc. etc.,....he wasn't there long. We kicked him out. Just like ol Waylon says, "Once you're down in Texas, Bob Wills is still the king." Classic country will forever live on in Texas. That's another reason why I love this great state of mine! I HATE new country, it aint' even country anymore! It's all fake crap. Long live Waylon!
@TheConfederate96 I agree with you there and wish newer country music would stop playing too. To me classic country is more real and true country music. Love Texas and long live our classic country music.
I don't know what happend to Country Music but I think they killed it. Thank god for youtube, Waylon, Kris, George, Hank, Willie, Marta, Bob and the rest. I can actually find good music.
If we played (sang) music like this for our growing children, educated them on who we admired, then perhaps our children will be able to develop a soul for Country once again. Real country music comes from the roots of family, without the love, hurt, sorrow, and joy of life from all that surround you, there would be no reason to cry a tear through a song.
He had an innovative way of playing too, alternating between strumming with a pick, picking with his pick while using the other fingers, and tucking the pick up into his hand and using only finger picking style. His left hand methods were equally impressive.

Now we got a bunch of rappers talkin about killin people and shit. we still got Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, George Jones, and David Allan Coe. Thank god. I wish they could live forever. I am so mortified by all of the folks in Nashville with their spiked blond hair and double ear piercings that call themselves country. I am relieved to know that crossing the red river is like crossing the jordan river.
Right with you. I'm 27 and would like to see Nashville as it is today burn to the ground and only the Ryman Auditorium and the buildings that signify the old music left standing. CLASSIC COUNTRY FOREVER!
@Patriot1776 I agree. I met Waylon's brother James last summer, and I mentioned that a friend of mine went to the memorial service they had at the Ryman after Waylon died. He said "that was the first time I ever went in through the front door". In the ocean of country music, Waylon made a huge wake, and it's still going.
@budw84 I'm not a fan of the modern times either, but you have to remember that people felt the same about the outlaws like Waylon and Willie when they were changing the country scene decades ago.
@gumper1986 very true but the thing that defines my tastes in music seems to be the originality of the artist/song, the instrumental content (fiddles, pedal steel, and a couple others seem to hit the spot for me), and/or the way the song relates to me.
nobody is bigger than bob wills . lol just joking. i was watching this movie one time that was making fun of the mafia and this man said that they would be bigger than the almighty himself. and this goofy guy stood up and said nobody is bigger than sinatra. roflmao. does anybody remember that movie?? it was hilarious now. godbless.
My Uncle Country Ed Tunks hired Bob Wills and the Texas Cowboys to perform at the opening of his produce store in Downey Calfiornia in the late 40's. I remember how that live music took my head off. I was fortunate to have seen him live.
@waymoreblues Waylon Jennings Next to Elvis Presley is the best singer out there in the market today. Now although Jennings past away, his music will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved his music. Good Hearted Woman and Sweet Mother Texas should have been out on CD Years Ago. But i have the original LPs and i am loving every minute of it. Elvis was and still is the king of rock n roll. But Waylon will always be the king of Country music. Take care and peace
The fiddles are from Bob Wills original recording. I believe the song is "Faded Love" which was one of Bob Wills biggest hits and one of his signature tunes.
HEY YA'LL!!!!!!!!! Tip yer hat back, and have another the world is complicated sure but hell ....... this song lives in them that lived it and, uh .... there some of us still around ...AIN'T THAR????????????
hank jr is a great throwback, but he comes far from filling the shoes of his father, let alone people like waylon, johnny, and as this song proves, Bob Wills.
i agree theres guys like jamie johnson robert earl keen jerry jeff walker ext. that have a few good songs but there not stars like waylon willie johnny merle and all them old boys. Country music needs to be revived with men that can fill their shoes for sure.
Man, I just cant get enough of Waylons old work, country has lost its soul, the contrast from this and the new stuff pumped out today is just undeniable.
Waylons passing has left a void that wont soon be filled, His spirit is deeply missed.
my grandpa got to play several shows on the steel gutiar with bob wills in northern ca in the late 40s. wish i would have been around to see it. they were great
It's ironic to hear people say that todays singers and their music are crap compared to someone like Waylon because when he was the hot new young artist all the old people said the same thing about him.
He was one of those who changed country music.
He put the drums up louder in the music and had an in your face attitude and his guitar even distorted a little from time to time and man, the old timers hated it.
The difference is that I can tell Waylon from Willie from David Allen Coe from Hank Jr. They mixed a little rock or a little swing or whatever they pleased, but they still had something to say and they still had soul. The problem with the corporate shills of today is that they look alike, sound alike, and write songs for the sole purpose of selling them to the 12-30 demographic. That's not art. Waylon was an artist and, I'm sorry, but most of today's "stars" are just living billboards.
Not really true. Waylon Jennings is about the only one from Waylon's generation that my grandfather liked. The rest were from Hank Williams Sr.'s generation.
Pop country sucks ass the new waylon and david allen coe mix is hank III. his psycho bluegrass is badass I can't believe you would say waylon is anything like rascall fags
Their similarities are in that they were/are the ones who push the bounderies.
Waylon did as does Swift and Rascal Flats and Hank, Hank, Hank (Hank111).
As for your assertion that Pop country "sucks ass" is simply your opinion and many will agree. Believe me, MANY old timers thought Hank sucked, some hated Merle and of course Waylon was villified too.
Man I'de love to hear that stuff on todays country radio. Thank god they still play George Strait and Alan Jackson. All the new stuff is just plain 'ol crap.
the man is in a realm all by himself...I have listened to him for years. did you catch it in the movie.? Waylon, I gave you money for the phone bill.... Waylon says, that was last month, this is this month.....true that.shows the work he put in to make it. like all the greats...the man is one of the greatest of all time.
YouTube: The advertisements really and truly suck.

I am with you I am 18 and classic country is the only kind I listen to.
Vuddyn 1 year ago
@Patriot1776 I agree. I met Waylon's brother James last summer, and I mentioned that a friend of mine went to the memorial service they had at the Ryman after Waylon died. He said "that was the first time I ever went in through the front door". In the ocean of country music, Waylon made a huge wake, and it's still going.

@budw84 I'm not a fan of the modern times either, but you have to remember that people felt the same about the outlaws like Waylon and Willie when they were changing the country scene decades ago.
gumper1986 7 months ago
@gumper1986 very true but the thing that defines my tastes in music seems to be the originality of the artist/song, the instrumental content (fiddles, pedal steel, and a couple others seem to hit the spot for me), and/or the way the song relates to me.
budw84 7 months ago
@budw84 David Allan Coe has his ears piereced, kind of a double standard you got going on there.

@waymoreblues
My Uncle Country Ed Tunks hired Bob Wills and the Texas Cowboys to perform at the opening of his produce store in Downey Calfiornia in the late 40's. I remember how that live music took my head off. I was fortunate to have seen him live.
rickyrecon45 1 year ago 3
@waymoreblues Waylon Jennings Next to Elvis Presley is the best singer out there in the market today. Now although Jennings past away, his music will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved his music. Good Hearted Woman and Sweet Mother Texas should have been out on CD Years Ago. But i have the original LPs and i am loving every minute of it. Elvis was and still is the king of rock n roll. But Waylon will always be the king of Country music. Take care and peace

One of my favorites....Anyone know who plays the fiddles at the end?
porquah 2 years ago
The fiddles are from Bob Wills original recording. I believe the song is "Faded Love" which was one of Bob Wills biggest hits and one of his signature tunes.

the outlaw country went to hell when waylon and johnnie died there is a void
that nobody can fill not even his son shooter can fill it there is bosephus
i mean hank jr is filling that realm
but that will not last long either
micknm 2 years ago
He is making reference to the only outlaw still kicking... who just happens to live in Austin...
OldSkaterGuy 2 years ago
hank jr is a great throwback, but he comes far from filling the shoes of his father, let alone people like waylon, johnny, and as this song proves, Bob Wills.
mac423 2 years ago
i agree theres guys like jamie johnson robert earl keen jerry jeff walker ext. that have a few good songs but there not stars like waylon willie johnny merle and all them old boys. Country music needs to be revived with men that can fill their shoes for sure.
psychobilly1992 2 years ago 2
Man, I just cant get enough of Waylons old work, country has lost its soul, the contrast from this and the new stuff pumped out today is just undeniable.
Waylons passing has left a void that wont soon be filled, His spirit is deeply missed.

I feel luck to have had his music in my life, so many that came before and after will never know of it.

Thank God Waylon and Co decided not to sell their souls to Nashville in exchange for the almighty dollar, his music will live on, thanks for posting

It's ironic to hear people say that todays singers and their music are crap compared to someone like Waylon because when he was the hot new young artist all the old people said the same thing about him.
He was one of those who changed country music.
He put the drums up louder in the music and had an in your face attitude and his guitar even distorted a little from time to time and man, the old timers hated it.
johnwalterm 2 years ago
The difference is that I can tell Waylon from Willie from David Allen Coe from Hank Jr. They mixed a little rock or a little swing or whatever they pleased, but they still had something to say and they still had soul. The problem with the corporate shills of today is that they look alike, sound alike, and write songs for the sole purpose of selling them to the 12-30 demographic. That's not art. Waylon was an artist and, I'm sorry, but most of today's "stars" are just living billboards.
Ironguts77 2 years ago 8
Not really true. Waylon Jennings is about the only one from Waylon's generation that my grandfather liked. The rest were from Hank Williams Sr.'s generation.
Magnuspire 2 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
It is true that not all of the old timers hated it.
It is true that Waylon was the Taylor Swift and The Rascall Flatts of his time.
Two new artists that are pushing the boundries just like Waylon, Hank Sr, Elvis, Willie etc.
johnwalterm 2 years ago
True, but Waylon, Hank Sr, and Wilie all kept the country style. Taylor Swift and Rascall Flatts are turning country into Pop music.
Magnuspire 2 years ago 3
Pop country sucks ass the new waylon and david allen coe mix is hank III. his psycho bluegrass is badass I can't believe you would say waylon is anything like rascall fags
kbsrh 2 years ago 4
You missed my point entirely.
Why? They didn't understand it.
Everyone's a friggin critic.

Waylon says, that was last month, this is this month.....true that.shows the work he put in to make it. like all the greats...the man is one of the greatest of all time.
