It's definitely interesting for the history, but I've heard a lot of people suggesting it be the first book someone reads on Paganism. I find it a rather dry read, and I'm glad I didn't read it when I was a beginner either because I wouldn't have been able to get through it. Thanks for watching!

  • I do not agree that it should be an introductory but I believe it is a must read sometime in the beginning of gathering information on Wicca. If one is to follow any religion, one should probably know how that religion came to be. There are too many books out there that are rife with nonfactual historical accounts. The book clearly states it is a history of paganism, not a How To book.

  • I think history should always be the foundation. Without a knowledge of history, how can you make good judgement? For example, if you were going to become Christian, I would say the number 1 thing is to learn the history of that religion, where it came from, how it developed. If you don't do this, then you have entered something you know nothing about.

  • Gasp! Scholarly work for beginners? Oh, the horror! //sarcasm// LOL. Ronald Hutton is actually rather humorous. I find his writing delightful and insightful. Reading comprehension is a must, however. He doesn't dumb things down the way that the Llewellyn how-to's do. Because beginner doesn't necessarily mean unable to read scholarly books. It just means that this information should be introductory rather than the rewritten history a lot of so-called Wicca books have--9 million women burned, etc.

  • I agree. n_n

  • Ive always wanted to read Triumph of the Moon...It never struck me as a beginners book either, what little I know about it. Blessed Be, Alex )O(
