wow! now I see what Colin was talking about about Comet! I must confess that when he told me a draft horse could canter that well I didn't actually beleive him...
I guess this is what I get for being a stuck-up warmblood snob
Whoa...that's pretty cool! Did he ever compete in vaulting? I want a horse like that to vault on!
I learned how to vault on a palomino belgian named Goldie that was also bred and started in vaulting by Big Horse Productions. Unfortunately, she had sustained some mysterious injury and has not been much of a canter horse since. We haven't given up hope, though. She is improving with lots of work and schooling. Currently I vault on another Martonovich started Belgian X named Pete.
What type of lameness? Have you checked for EPSM? Drafts are bred to pull, so their conformation can make very tough for them to maintain a canter on a small circle, they can become very sore (especially in their back, hips, stifles and hocks). Some just pull up lame before they become fit enough to maintain a collected canter on a 20m circle. Hope she's feeling better since you posted this!
Goldie could canter for a set of team compulsories no problem when my team got her. Then she went off for some unknown reason. She scored a 70% in a training level dressage test back when my trainer schooled her all the time, and that was starting from practically nothing...she was pretty much shelved because she was "lame". Drafts are very hard to condition. If she can come back once, she can do it again. She is doing better lately, though. You can see her in one of my videos.
Hey Alethea! I was wondering you worked for Cavalia right? I was hoping you might be able to tell me a little something about it, I want to work for them some day (as a groom, not to preform) and I might write a letter, I wanted your input.
aww, that's so cute w/ the handstand. i'd be rather worried about my nose being mistaken for a carrot though. ;)did he ever stick that full turn? hope things are good, hows mr doc? Rachel
i saw you guys perform at the equine extravaganza this summer in nc and i must say how incredibly awestruck i was by your performances!! this video is so amazing and inspiring, i never knew that anyone could reach this level of amazing talent! and your belgians i saw in their stalls and they are all so sweet (the 3 you guys had there). how long does it take to condition your body to do these awesome moves and be so strong??
Thank you for your compliments!!! We had a blast in NC this year! Hmmm...how long...let's see. The three of us have each been doing the 'vaulting' stuff over 15 years each. All of us actually started as riders. But we cross train with weights, gymnastics/circus, and dance. The combination of that and spending as much time on our horses as we can makes things easier for us! It depends on the person for the length of time-when there's a will there's a way, right! Thanks again!
np!! and thank you so much for taking the time to reply!!! WOW!!!! 15 years is such a long time!! it just looks like it takes so much determination and trust and everything...but hey, it sure pays off b/c i loved every single minute of your performances!!!! i must say i had no clue that belgians could piaffe or passage!! the one erik was on one night was doing that and it was sooo cool!!
Yeah comet! He's such a good boy! >.< lol. I love watching Pierre-Luc and Erik, they are sooo good! I wish Alethea was in it though. I hope they all take time from being awesome to come see Nationals this year! Poor Erik got hurt in Cali.
OMG! Pierre-Luc looks great! So does Comet! That is Comet right? Hi Alethea, its Christianna from Cavalia! How have you been? How is Erik? The video is so cool by the way! I saw that you will be at Breyerfest! I would kill to go, I have always wanted to. In fact, I got a Breyer that looks like Comet! Hope everything has been good with you and I hope to hear from you soon! Take care!
Christianna! How are you? Everyone is good here-Erik is good, too. Yes, that's Comet in the video-he is doing really good-we are all living in Vegas now. What about you? How have you been? You definitely have to let us know if you will come to Breyerfest!
