This is why the 5.56 is so neat. The proper design, the M193, kicked so much ass that the US decided to go to the Belgian SS109 instead because the M193 kicked too much ass.
Varmint Grenades are frangables. I can't remember if it's Nosler or Barnes that supplies the military with "lead free" range ammo for Caifornia. Google it up. But these are copper jackets filled with compresses particles, not lead. They are longer for weight because of less mass than lead and explode violently with no fear of ricochet.
@mute8s there are also excellent slo-mo vids here on YT. Search 'varmint grenade' to get started. I love the fact that the video shows a bullet hitting a grape and only powder remains. The bad guys would love these, they leave zero ballistics behind!
In my experience shooting stuff with my M4, the smaller targets don't really react that much. Listerine bottles and even some smaller detergent bottles. Gallon jugs and anything about that size, they're a different story though. Even with a normal 55 grain FMJ round. It's incredible the damage that frangible round did!
Damn! What kind of ammo were you using? If I can get a hold of some frangible ammo that tears shit up like that and a watermelon or two, that would make for some entertaining video.
@misery556 Well the hollow points if I remember right were standard 55 grain wolf steel cased ammo. The frangibles as far as I know were military surplus but I can't say for sure since my friend just had a handfull of rounds in a bag. But yeah pretty impressive isn't it. :)
Frangible looks like a good zombie killing round. Excellent video!
