I'm very sensitive to many things, examples: Me: *sniff* *sniff*...do you smell that? Friend: No. Me: *sniff* you sure? Friend: Yes. Me: You absolutely sure? Friend: YES, FOR THE LAST TIME, YES GOD DAMN IT! Me: *covers ears* Friend: Why are you covering your ears? *turns on bright laptop screen* Me: *covers eyes* Friend: ...dude, dude, are you ok? *rubs rough sweater on face* Me: *covers face* Yep...I do have asperger's.
I'm hard of hearing, so the noise hardly bothers me, in fact, I tend to bask in loud noises. But, I can't stand a shower with hard water pressure, so mine is usually on the lowest possible, and I couldn't wear jeans until I was 12. I can't touch wet food, like bread that fell in water, or eggs, or really any food that has been sitting in water. I despise foods like cartelidge and stringy foods like celery. I tend to peel the veins on celery :)
I'm oversensitive to noises and of course I always have to ignore them,I can't tell people not to be loud all the time..but it's very hard for example when I have to concentrate on something (e.g. study) and in another room tv is on, I hear it as if it were in my room.
I am having a difficult time trying to help my husband understand my sensory issues. We are going to his parents' house for the Super Bowl and he told me not to say anything about loud noises. He doesn't understand that I can't help it. I can't turn off my ears to those noises.
My main sensory issue is bright light. Many times just being outside makes me have to squint a lot. Before I thought it was due to my poor eyesight, but now I'm thinking Aspergers plays a role in that too.
With sounds I'm pretty good, although a sudden loud blast of audio will still make me jump most of the time. And I absolutely HATE the sound of metal scraping against metal.
Sudden motions can also make me paranoid or jumpy at times.
Humidity is also another problem. I actually liked water and played with. But I hate being wet on dry land (ESPECIALLY WITH CLOTHES ON, they're cold, heavy, and I can feel the weave). My skin just feels dirty when it's wet, and I have an aversion ot heat.
I also disliked loud noises (trains terrified me as a child) and the sound of heavy breathing and chewing (especially mushy food) regularly IRRITATES THE SH!T OUT OF ME.
They used to be a real pain back when I was younger and still irritates me.
I avoided jackets and HATED socks and sweaters because they would always bunch up in my wrists, armpits and soles (I especially hate sweaters because the interior is often scalloped).
It feels like a cross between tickling and strangling and to this day I always grasp my undershirt whilst putting anything else over it so that nothing ruffles.
I sometime think im allergic to all things not natral, sounds, smells, colours. i cant wear anything washed in chemicals, or that non-bio stuff, i cant be in the same house as chemical product smells (cleaning stuff, it annoys my family lol) some foods just turn me green, i cant watch certain old films that use bright changing colors with loud peircing noises, just makes me feel sick. been suggested it could be like autism but nobody in my family took that seriously, just think im weird!!
For me, noisy classrooms and whining of any kind is the worst for me, but the sound of a hard material grinding against something else hard to make a screeching noise can actually give me nightmares. Like metal against a floor. Dear god. Dirty hard floors drive me crazy if I have to put my hands on them. I always cut my nails short to avoid the feel.
I have a very strong aversion to embroidery. I hate the way it feels against my skin. I wear jeans and mostly screen print outfits. I won't even hug people who wear embroidery.
I dont get what it means at 0:58 - Earplugs.. They're not just for breakfast anymore??
What the hell why would u eat them from breakfast? or use them for breakfast! i am being tested for aspergers and this is 1 of my biggest downfalls not understanding sayings, and take things literal
Love this video. My son has Asperger's Syndrome. He is in OT, and is being home school because he much smarter than the average 5 yr old, but doesn't understand social boundaries. He seems to be getting better every day, while I try to teach him how to use his brilliant mind. I knew something was off when he was a baby and would vomit at the smell of foods he didn't like, among other things that started later. Thank you.
wow, totally relate. i particularly cannot stand the touch of cotton balls, wooden popsicle sticks, thin sheets, not wearing socks to sleep with a heavy comforter- think jeans are 'dressy' because they are uncomfortable!
The noise of people walking (more like stomping) on the floor above me. It's EXTREMELY annoying to me. It's as if I feel like people who stomp when they walk, ought to be tortured or something. Noisy vacuum cleaners are also annoying to listen to. And I hate wearing jeans.
Thanks so much for making these videos! Holy Sh-t, I've had this my whole life. Explains my life. Are other symptoms being easily distracted, and finding it takes a gigantic effort to finish anything?
Perhaps I could view autism as a personality trait if the auditory hell I've gone through for nearly 30 years had been treated and I wasn't still unable to work or really go out and enjoy myself in any capacity. I am receiving treatment now and if my auditory issue plus the phobias it created are ever even 50% better then I will be able to know whether having autism is something to value. I do enjoy your vids and channel.
Great vid. I do know that fluorescent bulbs are great, but You're right, I really don't like the color, that UltraViolet color isn't too cool, and another thing,
LED flash lights are great and the bulbs last a long time and take way less power than incandescent bulbs, but I just don't like that UltraViolet color. Kick ass Laure. Take care and thank You.
I'm 48 and still try to get over those things...
My sense of smell has gone away and I rarely can smell anymore.
Most of the time I can deal with an ant crawling on me and calmly remove it..
Sensitive to noise has gotten worse.. what is up with car horns, every time someone walks away the horn blows $%$#@.
And motorcycles - why do people change the mufflers? $($&%$#
: ) I still spend LOTS of time living in my own world... At least I still have that!

Speaking of food, I hate mushy and soggy textures (grosses me out).
I only like crunchy and thick, rubbery, chewy things. And I hate caraway seeds (disgusting aftertaste).

I hate wearing large woolly jumpers and have always had issues with people shouting, noisy kids and the sound of a parent smacking a child.

sunlight anywhere near my eyes is really painful, I can usually be seen outside squinting and covering my face and having my head down.
I also hate noises, I cover my ears when ambulance drive by and hate the loud music on the pier.
I am going to start wearing sunglasses and maybe earplugs, if earplugs will help
