Don't hate on Creationists, they are merely under-educated in the field of biology. It's interesting to think that chimpanzees are more closely related to us than they are to the gorilla. Some even advocate including the chimpanzee and the bonobo (or pygmy chimpanzee) in the genus homo because of how similar we are.

As far as bananas, that would make sense, since we have all (fruits included) have the same common ancestor. What it means is that we share a more recent common ancestor in the chimpanzee than the banana.

If you believe in evolution (only bringing that up because a lot of people don't), and have studied it, you'd know that many scientists believe that our ape ancestors standing upright was the first major step in ape's evolution into man. So yes, this could be considered evolution in action.

Perhaps he has an injury somewhere on the arms? Could be anything, an elbow or shoulder that popped out of it's socket, popped back again but left a more or less permanent damage around the joint areas, and now it hurts to put too much weight on it?
I suggest they look that up as he can be in alot of pain. A regular skeleton x-ray may not show any damage at all, but the soft tissue may be quite damaged so an MRI scan may show something.
Forgot to add - there's really no reason why an animal would start walking like that unless he HAVE to. Usually it has to do with injuries. There was a bear that walked upright too, but that bear had a severed front leg. =(
Because it's a Gorilla and it's awesome. Sasquatch would be a slightly different species. Evolution has started like this...among human ancestors an ape started to walk up-right, just like this one does. and every other Gorillas thought: " What is he doing??" "he is crazy"..but all Gorilla ladies thought that this was the sexiest thing and wanted to mate with him...in the next generation all gorillas Child walked up-right, evolution has started...2 milions year later they became Humans.
