This one doesn't come with a display because you can order them like that. I have the same model but with a screen. I have windows vista, 2 gb of ram (max) a video card and I think a 2.55 ghz processor. My only problem is in my house we have cats so last year ( when I didn't know a lot about electronics) I never cleaned the heat sync. It overheated and burned out the bearings on the processor damn and now at startup it screeches and then goes WAWAeSEWAwaWaWAwAwAwAwaWWWAWaa­aaa ( literally const

It's not the brand that counts; it's the components in the case. eMachines are improving since they were purchased by Gateway. I'm getting the ET1331G-03w which comes with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit preinstalled, 6GB RAM, 750GB SATA HDD, an AMD Athlon II X2 235e 2.7GHz processor and a lot of other nice features. eMachines are targeted at the budget market but will meet the the needs of most users. They can be upgraded. Buy a 500 watt PSU and and nVidea 7600 GT and you've got a sweet rig.

@unevenlight Yes, that's true. Most of these don't come with any case fan except for the PSU fan. So, if your going to do upgrades, it'd be wise to get a case fan from NewEgg. The motherboards eMachines' is currently using have two three pin fan connectors you can use.

I've used that same eMachine before, it's really great. I got an eMachines D620-5133 now running Ubuntu 9.10. It was a little bit slow with Vista.. well barely... but it's kind of hard to use when 3/4 of your monitor is ruined and just white. I mean you gotta drag everything to the twin monitor.... I just installed Ubuntu 9.10 the other day and set it to mirror monitors and now it's great.

I took 1 GB (out of 2) of memory out and put it in my other laptop because I needed it, and it's still fine

E- machines aren't bad computers per-se but the manufacturers use lower quality parts. They might be built by Gateway, but they are the low end machines. They cut costs with lower end parts. ,
