I just "messed" with the settings and tweaked the stuff. There is a good intro info in the Blender particle Wiki (wiki dot blender dot org and search for Particles Rewrite).
Also you can search Blender Artists (blenderartists dot org) for Particle Patch. I think there may be a link to a vid or to in there showing the "how to".
Unfortunately the sample files used to create this were made with an earlier compilation of the tool and are now useless. I might be teaching a one day course on doing hair and particles, though. If I do I'll try to make the materials available on line.
how long did it take to render? lol

Not long at all, maybe 30 minutes or so? It renders pretty quickly.

i can make particles, i just wanted to know how you got the hair to react so dynamically, it looks really awesome
