@at1212b The amalgamation did end up costing billions, but if we didn't do it in the 90's we would just be delaying the inevitable. Having 6 different governments in an area that is essentially economically and socially the same is never a good idea. It would just cause economic instability for Ontario.
I have always loved Toronto since I visited back in the 60's with my family and have been there in the 70's 80's 90''s and 2000. I know that there have been many changes since 2000. Got to get back up there.
from Montreal, and thought TO. was great! The nightlife disturbed me in that it seemed to be a Friday\Saturday only affair. Some PPL were toast by 1AM, but the wkend atmosphere was still wild! Great consumer resources: bars, shop stores all cool and innovative (bit like NY)
The biggest down for me; no natural city limits (love this about MTL\NY) = weird zoning laws? + I hate the trams; cables/tracks demean city's sights/greenery. Architectural contrasts were beauuuutiful though!
Diversity can bring goodness and evil at the same time. However, in many cases it can be a great, unique thing for a city. As long as it doesn't lead to ethnocentricism, and people can cooperate together as one people (in this case Torontonians/Canadians), then diversity is fine =)
I'm in Toronto right now. Haven't been here in 2 years and loving the city all over again.
People, sounds, smells, lights........its great! And plus, I can see the skyline is really changing. I haven't seen this much development outside of Asia! I'm from Singapore (but stuck in Ohio at the moment) so its nice to be back in the big city.
Thanks!!! Unfortunately, I'll have to leave tomorrow afternoon for Montreal D=
I'm hitting my favorite neighbourhoods and Yonge street before I leave. What I notice more about Toronto since last time is that it is getting more New York-style vibrancy without the crime and dirty streets.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you as well!
This is really Very nicely put together. I use to come up to Toronto almost every summer up until 2000. But I will make it a point to make it up there in 2009 to see all of the changes since 2000. Excellent Work. (^_^)(^_^)(^_^)(^_^)(^_^).
The Bay Area where I live - San Jose/Silicone Valley - we have people from all over the globe, almost no one was born here, everyone is either an immigrant or racial/ethnic minority, and the 'culture' of the globe is celebrated here on every courner of this multicultural environment...and they're all coexisting here together peacefully in harmony, and working for a better future of technology and human kind...so just a thought here for you, Toranto is not alone in bringing the world together :)
Thanks for dropping by and your comment. Cheers to you and to all the residents of SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA especially to my Aunt Celia Martinez. I wish to see my relatives there in SAN JOSE.
I love the way you present Toronto in your video. Very exciting to watch! I was moved by your song - I'll Always Love You. You interpreted the song beautifully. Well done! I like the beat of Downtown as well as Big, Beautiful Country. I dig your video! More please...
Toronto a "mega city" ? ...LoL
We would like to think so, but it is all a lie, there are no "mega cities" in Canada; none, zilch, zero !
"A mega city is usually defined as a metropolitan area with a total population in excess of 10 million people."

I have relatives in 'Mrs Auga'. I'm not really sure if amalgamation was a good idea. It seems to be definitely something done in the East...

Why do a lot of toronto women look manly? The guys also have bushy eyebrows. Also, "my kind of place"- that sounds awkard. A place is just a place

You're so negative and critical. I find it odd for someone I thought matured and cultured.

I used to be proud of Toronto.. but ever since amalgamation, this city has gone downhill.

I find the Soundtrack Universal especially the Last Song.
The First Song is Generic. The Second One is Either Way...
This is just My Opinion.
philwo2004 2 years ago 22
I described the Soundtrack as Mellow. Lively and Universal as in All Together for the First, Second and Third Song.
In other words, the Soundtrack captures all my Moods.

I like Toronto, but I wish it had a better nightlife and a district that truely never sleeps. Can't wait 'till the GTA hits 10 million residents.

I agree. As long as the people have respect for one another and work for the common good, the community will prosper.
Actually, I find Toronto always new for I am open to discover the culture of other ethnicities.
