Lol I couldn't leave my house for DAYS! it was insane! We live out in the country you could say so it was no where near safe for us to leave. My brother even spent his 16 birthday in the dark x.x it was soo bad!
Ice is so pretty to look at as it glistens, but is at the same time so eery when you here it chime in the wind and realize you haven't had electricity for days lol!
I live in Northern Arkansas, we were without power for 13 days. Without water (water company's generator failed) for 3 days. We all need to learn our lesson and prepare better for in the future... I have started preparing...
Ugh...hopefully we wont have another one of these this winter. I live in west ky and it sucked ASS going 3 weeks n' a couple days without power! Then days to just clean up the yard. The horse field is still a mess to this day (on the fenceline). HaHa
I was in Fayetteville, AR during this. The destruction was extensive during the storm, but then when the ice started melting, shit started falling down again. It's like the ice acted as some sort of structural support for a lot of weakened branches, and as it started to melt, more started falling...
Great video... but I had to laugh when all you seemed worried aboutt when you finally got power back was... "Why did our Fan come on...????"" That was a real nice (funny) way to end the vid.
P.S
Did the fan come on beause the switch was on...? lol....
only 2 days and the ice was already falling 0ff, you were lucky, it was day 5 for me in pocahontas. I was out of power for 23 days due to the electric main being ripped off my house.
at 4:45.... PLEASE!!! Tighten the chain on that saw before it snaps and wraps around a leg or an arm! The same thing happened to my dad. The chain was loose, and it hit the ground and got in a bind. Next thing i know he's rolling around on the ground with a chain wrapped around his arm. Thankfully he is a volunteer firefighter and was wearing full turnouts at the time. If not he could have lost his arm.
Great footage. I remember in 1999 and 2000 when Central Arkansas got hammered. I remember a sleepless night with the crashing. Everything is so quiet because of no power and the ice is so loud when the trees fall.
Yeah I'm from South West Arkansas, and when the one in 1999 and 2000 came I was out of power for 18 days.... Trees breaking all around you, couldn't get out without carrying a chainsaw everywhere.
harberhead75: I live in the south west of Arkansas too, and yes the one that happened in 99/2000 also sucked big time, i couldn't sleep that night, had two huge tree limbs land on our house, very scary. All i could hear all night was the sound of trees breaking, horrible. We were out electricity for only 11 days though. Must have really sucked being out for 18. And the worst part about the whole thing is that it just had to happen on Christmas night.
I live near Ft. Knox, Ky in a small town call Vine Grove. we got hit really bad by the same ice storm, The authorities said it was the worst ice storm in hky history some 600,000 people without power after the storm. I was one of the lucky few who didn't lose power, thanks god. but there were people that went 6 to 7 days with no power and very cold temperatures.
we got hit too. it was so eerie and cool to be out like at 10pm and hear all the trees snap and crash to the the ground. we had no school for five days too. it was sooooo much fun.
i live in western kentucky, we didnt have power for 2 and a half weeks. no school for 3 weeks. it was amazing yet scary. and where so lucky though, we didnt have any trees fall on the house or anything.
@ 3:40 i heard a steam whistle - train? @ 5:29 , you got some really pretty property- what is the roads, all sand? very nice-- VERY good drainage in sand
This reminded me of the 'icepocalypse' in Little Rock back in 2000. You have my sincere empathy. I think it took them three weeks to get some parts of the area back online. I was down for three days in the first shot, and five the second.
One good thing came from it: they keep the trees trimmed today.
After seeing this, I consider myself lucky because I live in Central Missouri. Yeah we gaot the ice storm and was out of scchool for three days, but we didn't lose power. The ice up the road was pretty damn annoying when your trying to go up-hill.
How does this compare to the tornado Reed and Joel saw there a in 06? I've never seen an ice storm like that in my life, and I live in Southern Ontario.
I can't imagine going through something that extreme. Or maybe I can: after all, I've been in four tornadoes (weak ones, but tornadoes just the same), and I've been through the Blizzard of 1978, plus remnants of several hurricanes. Powerful vid; five stars!
Wow, that sucks. We had a similar storm in Tulsa last year and didn't have power for almost 2 weeks. It's pretty eery hearing trees fall every few minutes in the night.
We've got light in the kitchen...why did our fan come on?! Funny!
